Everytime I see this, I smile. Hope he'll stay here for a very long time.

That save after Cahill's shot was very good. Couldnt believe how easily he held on it. I also love him. Like really love him. Like I'd turn gay for him.

Best in the PL, on a fast-track to being the best on the 3rd rock from the Sun;)

His shot stopping abilities are the best in the league; closely behind him I'll put Mignolet. De Gea also has a better distribution completion rate than many goalkeepers. Yesterday I saw him quickly clear a ball from his area and it went into the Chelsea half...straight on Rooney's head; quality stuff! Makes me wonder why he isn't the 2nd pick behind Casillas for Spain. He's clearly better than Valdes and Reina.

I'd imagine they see it as more worthwhile to be actually playing for the Under 21s rather than sitting on the bench for the 1st team. If he carries on the way he's going and the fact Cassillas isn't actually playing at the moment there will be a case for him to be promoted to first choice for the senior team.

Would be phenomenal if he could put in a season as good as/better than last year and get the #1 shirt for Brazil.

I think he's past U-21 now. Won the European championships with Spain's under 21 this summer, but they'll surely be calling him up to the senior squad now, unless they decide experience is everything.

He should get in the team at least before clowns like Valdes and Reina.

And if he continues to play like he did, Del Bosque will have a tough choice next summer.

On current form the Spain goalkeepers should be

de Gea
Valdes
Lopez

He definitely should over Reina, Valdes and arguably now...Casillas.

He was, but I never thought current form meant just the previous game?

I thought he's been decent in pre-season too...Him and Cesc have been the stand out players so far. I wouldn't put him above Lopez, again that was an unordered list.

Ah that's fair enough then, thought it was ordered.

It would be a little ridiculous if Lopez does start most of the games this season and Del Bosque picks Casillas as starter for the WC. I can imagine it happening though.

I think Lopez is probably under the most pressure of any top flight goalkeeper. The minute he slips up, the Madridistas will go insane and demand Casillas. The demand is high enough currently, but can you just imagine if he made a Joe Hart-esque error?

I think he hasn't received enough credit for the way he's performed since his arrival.

I think I read somewhere that Marca did a recent poll and about 75% of Madrid fans said they think Casillas should move clubs.

Edit: http://www.marca.com/2013/08/27/en/football/real_madrid/1377614878.html

There is pressure though because Casillas is such an icon, not just for Madrid but Spain.

That would be great, but I honestly doubt it'll happen. Del Bosque, with the Spanish squad, has always had a very diplomatic approach to how he deals with the Catalan/Castillan rivality and getting rid of Casillas would be a huuuuuge move that could unsettle the squad, I think. I don't think it'll happen next summer, but over the next two years I could sea De Beard taking over progressively (of course if his club performances continue to justify it, which I have no doubt they will) for Euro 2016. He's still really young and once he makes it, he'll have a great tenure for Spain, I have no doubt about it. Frankly, at the moment he's easily in the top 3 Spanish keepers and would justify an inclusion in the squad, but the keeper position is always the hardest to break into, so he'll have to bide his time.

Do Spain have a game soon by the way? Has their squad been announced?

I heard Neville Southall talking about keepers on the radio the other day. He said something along the lines of De Gea being bad at positioning which is why he has to make saves with his legs. He also said that he was still learning though!

Personally, I think the legs thing is a bit of an advantage with the way the balls tend to swerve and dip these days. It's probably why we've not coached it out of him.

Use your legs, head, body or hands whatever saves the shot...
De Gea showed a masterclass in positioning and general goalkeeping vs Chelsea..
Saved every shot with ease and kept it easily..

Southall should have tried to keep his fitness program back in the days when he played. Never looked in shape at all but that might be the trick to his keeper style, the bigger he was the harder it seemed to get the ball past him..

I was expecting De Gea to go to Ecuador for the friendly, but Del Bosque took Reina (with Casillas/Valdes) despite calling up several other U21s. Looks like he's very reluctant to try out new keepers, maybe because of the Casillas situation. Of Spain's three regulars, Valdes has been the strongest for a while - played well again last night too.

I think DdG will have to wait until after the WC now.

It isn't new let alone a revelation, Del Bosque isn't going to disrupt a vital cog of a championship side like La Roja by integrating De Gea the year before the WC - I pointed this out last season

Incidentally, Valdes will be starting against Finland in the next WC qualifier

Agreed, though it's a bit silly. He should at least go with to Brazil as part of the WC squad, if anything. Good form over a prolonged period certainly deserves it.

Valdes has been in great form. You're going to have a hard time replacing him. Anyone currently a favourite?

But at the same time he's the underdog so he has it all to gain and nothing to lose, he doesn't lose any face by being number 2 to Casillas.

De Gea available? :smirk:

Who knows but Ter Stegen is often rumoured. I think a good chance the club will sign someone in winter rather than wait until summer to integrate someone. Won't be easy, Valdes has been superlative - look forward to what club he goes to in England

 feck off. DDG would be ideal for YOUS but he's ours!!

City or Arse might need a GK so it wouldn't surprise me if he went to either.

Courtois might be a decent shout for your lot as well.

I would love it if Chelsea buy a keeper, loan him out for three seasons and then he says he wants to leave for Barcelona.

Cech's only 29 isn't he, so he's got a few years left at his peak so I should imagine Chelsea would want to loan out Courtois again next season.

Wasn't called up. Casillas, Valdes and Reina again. They brought in some fresh faces in outfield position, but De Gea's still out. Seems silly to me.

It's insane but I was expecting this. Anyway I can understand Casillas and Valdes inclusion (Castellan-Catalan balance, Casillas being a legend while Valdes being on top form). But why that clown Reina has been called again is beyond logic. De Gea is superior to him in every way of the game, and has been so in the last two years. Madness especially considering that very likely De Gea will be Spain's first keeper after the World Cup and they should try to give him some experience before that.
