They should organise a pre-season tournament comprising best players voted from each country in their respective top leagues.

I'm claiming any royalties for my idea.

That's a glorious idea... though Germany and Spain would basically be Bayern/Dortmund and Madrid/Barca(+Falcao) mash-ups... though it would be worth it just to see that Spanish team.

The Daily Mail would hate it mind. 2 Enlgishmen in a Premier League select XI!?

I wonder how they communicate. Can Shinji speak English much yet?

There really are some remarkable saves there. Which one's the best?

That toe to Mata's is pretty special but there's something about that Dempsey save I find even more impressive. More time to react but Dempsey could go either way. The Madrid one's not as satisfying to watch but just as impressive.

The best save is from Coentrao (spelling?) by a margin. How he even saw the ball, never mind sprawled full length to get a hand on it, is a mystery.

The save from Ruiz is pretty special too.

The saves where he blocks shots from close range are a bit less impressive, as he's basically just throwing a shape and hoping the ball hits him. It's a variation on Schmeicel's crazy star jumps but it's very effective. Timing has to be perfect too, or it can be lifted over his leg fairly easily.

That save from Coentrao doesnt get the coverage it deserves. I havent got a clue how he did it. He had absolutely no right to save it. One of the best saves I've ever seen.

The save from Torres was my favourite too.

I'm delighted how he has performed this season and now he is finally getting the recognition his performances deserve.

No other other keeper in Europe would have gotten to that, it was one of those DDG specials.

One incredible save which has kind of been forgotten about (for obvious reasons!) was the double save against City, right before Tevez set up Toure to slot the rebound. Was gutted for De Gea when that went in.

Yeah, brilliant double save there.

Forgot about the Torres save too, what a player. If he was an outfield player, he'd be as hyped as Neymar.

Fully deserved for De Gea, and very good that some professionalism journos will have to eat the word. It was really a media agenda against him , probably because he was young and from a less physical league playing at the biggest England club. Anyway, he has been the best in England by miles this edition. I expect him to be the best in world in about 3 years, and Spain would be fools if they don't call him in the World Cup (even as a third keeper).

About the saves, I think that Coentrao and Ruiz's save were the best this edition. Both of them were almost unstoppable shots but he somehow managed to put his fingers on the ball. His best save at United shirt must be that against Chelsea last season, when Mata was denied from scoring a great goal from free kick.

He's arguably been the most solid Spanish keeper this season, but Casillas is a legend and it'll take retirement to permanently dethrone him. Valdes has been culpable for some seriously embarrassing goals, but he plays in a team with Messi so doesn't get tested anywhere near as much as De Gea. Reina is garbage.

He deserves an opportunity for the national side imo.

Carrick
Rooney
Silva
Aguero
RVP

Go ahead, flog me for what I am about write:

We are witnessing in David De Gea a young footballer who at the conclusion of his playing career will be regarded by near unanimous consensus as the greater goalkeeper ever to play the game.

Please, have your go!

I disagree.

There's your flogging.

To be honest while it's still early days I think you might not be far off the mark here. To be at the level he is at the age he is for a goalkeeper is outrageous. I've backed him since he began since he is obviously talented but he seems to have pulled off winning over the press and I think from here we are only going to see him get better and better.

You don't see this talent at this age in this position come around very often, and he is at one of the right clubs to make the most of it.

No surprise, I agree with your post.

It is indeed "early days". But my god, what incredible early days!!!

I would love that very much, especially if he stays with us for a lot of time. But it would be very unlikely that this will happen. Yashin willalways be considered the best.

If De Gea would reach the Buffon's level it would be excellent. Wouldn't complain though if he reaches only Casillas's level.

Watched that video again. Absolutely brilliant.

Guess that I will watch it a lot of time during the summer.
