Had a fecking heart attack when he got smashed by Vidic. Thought he was out cold. Looked very nasty indead.

Martin Tyler was so desperate for Dave to feck up today. What a prick.

Ouch!

When you consider how bad Hart this season has been and how good DDG has been it represents a big change in fortunes! DDG is now the better GK IMHO!

DDG is definitely becoming more and more composed.

Getting to a point where I'm barely noticing him in games except when he makes a fantastic save. Which is a good thing for a goalkeeper.

The amount of stuff Mignolet flapped at without it being mentioned was laughable. And yet DDG makes 0 mistakes despite some tricky balls into the box, including the incident in the pic above ^, and yet all the commentators would talk about was DdG's aerial weakness. Ridiculous.

Does anyone else feel that in our defence, Vidic doesn't really trust him? I don't have all the instances in my mind right now, but I've had that feeling throughout the season on a few occasions, and today felt like that again. Don't know if I'm imagining things though.

I've mentioned it before and was going to start a thread on it after todays collision.

I don't think he does at all, Vidic o.g. vs West Brom (?) and Spurs equaliser are good example and today.

Wouldn't be totally surprised, probably feels like he has to really dominate in the air and in the box to take some of the pressure off DDG. That'd inevitably mean stepping on DDG's toes sometimes.

It certainly could seem like it. You could see De Gea screaming before the collision, but I don't know if Vidic had a chance to actually pull out. On the "low catch" (the balloon ball into the box where no Sunderland player went for the ball) Vidic was right on top of De Gea as well, but again De Gea seemed to decide to come for the ball a bit late. It might just be as simple as Vidic going for everything until told otherwise and De Gea still being late on yelling for it. In any case, I'm sure it'll get better as they play more games together.

Absolute fukking stud of a keeper. If I were asked what other keeper on earth I'd rather have in goal than David De Gea, I'd struggle to come up with a single name.

It's pretty clear they've been told that's a topic they need to keep addressing. When Smalling made that fantastic clearing header from a really pacey, in-swinging cross and Tyler asks a couple of minutes later "so you think De Gea could've came out for that cross, then?" it made it clear as day. I don't think De Gea could come for it because it was hit in at such a pace but that's not even the point, it was just absurd that they chose to revisit the topic when it had nothing to do with what was going on on the pitch at the moment. It's a hot/controversial topic of debate so they pry at it, it's got nothing to do with De Gea and how he's actually playing.

So why is it, then, that otherwise seemingly sensible commentators keep acting like bitter buffoons when it comes to De Gea?

That had "agenda" written all over it. As you say they had already dealt with the situation and put it down as brilliant defending by Smalling, but someone in their ear probably told them "we're going to run a replay on the incident - watch De Gea closely", and they tried to come up with some half-arsed criticism.

He's looking very fecking assured in the past few months. He's come for, and collected, everything within his range today, and looked totally dominant whilst doing it. A nice sharp save with his feet from Ba too when Chelsea did manage to get a shot away.

I must say, he's looking the dog's bollocks for us.

Yep, quietly putting in a complete performance for us so far in this game.

Request to mods to rename this the "David De Gea is our best player thread" or similar.

Fast becoming our best player this season

It's been said plenty of times, but his distribution is phenomenal. I don't think I've seen a goalkeeper with better accuracy than him.

I won't be totally comfortable until Barcelona sign their new goalkeeper to replace Valdes.

If the top Spanish sides aren't casting a suggestive eye towards Old Trafford for this little gem, then they're doing something wrong. I'm fecking thrilled that both Madrid and Barcelona were happy with their goalkeeping options when we were in for De Gea, it would have been a hard sell for us to convince him Old Trafford was the best destination for him if they weren't.

We know more than anyone how hard it is to find a keeper of this quality, hes a fecking diamond. Remember those stories about him being involved in a swap deal with Ronaldo, theres no way on earth I'd take that deal, even for Ronaldo. Not that it was ever going to happen.

He survived a head on collision with vidic. He should be fearless for the rest of his career

He's been superb the last couple of months, and despite his criticism he received unfairly, he has had a very good season overall.

Also, I don't think it is coincidence that his best form has come after rotation has stopped. Like last year, when we stopped swapping the goalkeepers every game or every few games DDG has performed much better. I hope SAF realises that rotation is bollocks and DDG should always play games as #1.

Needed a wonder goal to defeat him in this game. Love how he's not afraid to tell the other players he's pissed off when they feck up (I can think of an instance when Jones committed a stupid foul in a dangerous position, he gave him a bollocking). Looks brilliant.

Ouch!

That wasn't the first time him and Vida have clattered into each other either. I'm getting the impression that the communication between David and Vida isn't as good as his communication with the rest of the defenders.

One of the few positives today. His handling was brilliant, he's gone from strength to strength this season. Arguably should be up there with Carrick and Rafael for player of the season.

He was fecking excellent today, as said above, he was one of the few positives. He's now correcting all of the things that he was criticised for and soon he'll be the complete package. What a gem.

I actually look forward to seeing him play, don't feel that way about any other goalkeeper. His potential is just frightening and imagining how good he is going to be in his late 20's early 30's is positively droolworthy.

I swear since Christmas he has only let in unstoppable stunners.
