Well he has already starred in the UEFA Europa League and Super Cup finals so I'd say... yes.

You can add an U-21 cup final to that list.

Something that a lot of people seem to be missing here is that, no matter who we sign, in any position, they can be expected to have some ups and downs in their debut season. For some reason, this patience isn't being afforded to De Gea. Which is daft.

Looks at the keeper at the opposite end yesterday. He had a very tough debut season. Class keeper now though. Should liverpool have looked elsewhere because of his "learning curve"

I know it's over-used but it's as though some forget just how tough Vidic and Evra found it at first, and they were much more experienced when they came to the club.

Personally I think De Gea doesn't need 3 years, he just needs the time it takes to feel at home here and feel like the main man, once that happens he'll be superb, just as he was in Madrid, and as you said, a mistake or 2 will happen, but they happen to all keepers.

Do you agree with Ferguson that he had a 'nightmare' against Liverpool at Anfield?

If we were still in the Champion's League, do you think De Gea is ready to play in, say, the semi final of the European Cup?

But we're not still in the champions league so your point is rendered useless.

And for what it's worth, of course he would be ready, he's played in 3 big finals before. He's adjusting to a different league and different footballing culture and already people are at the ready to write him off. Just turned 21 and with over 100 appearances, rave reviews from all the top goalies and coaches around. Fergie signed him to be our long term number one, saying can we afford to wait, why wouldn't we? I mean after all Fergie is trying to build a team with young players coming through and if we don't win the league this season, or the next, it's not exactly disastrous when you look at the injury crisis we've had and the fact that DDG has cost us 1 point all season.

Is there any keeper in history who saved every shot, never misplaced a pass, caught every cross and always looked in control? Because that's the criteria DDG seems to be compared to weekly.

I don't get it - we've got a great, talented 'kid' who seems to have a great attitude and work ethic - exactly the type of player I want at OT. He has a great future if he can handle the pressure.

Well we lost the game, so that would be 3 points...

We were level before his mistake, and never in the lead. Without his mistake we'd have drawn, gaining 1 point. I know we could well have gone on to win the game, but that can't be taken into account when working out hypotheticals. Take away his mistake, we draw the game and gain a point.

Oh right... I'm convinced we'd have won that game had we not conceded that 3rd... we were in the ascendancy. But if we're going purely hypothetical then saying we dropped one point is fair.

hypothetically I see your point, so on that basis, I will concede that I was wrong on that hypothetical stand point.

Thought he was very good tonight, large spells with nothing to do before having to make a save and he made them well which is a good sign for his concentration levels. His distribution was good as usual and generally his confidence seems to be up. Long may it continue.

Very good performance from him tonight. And a clean sheet as well. This will give me a lot of confidence.

Decent enough performance from him tonight. Had that one little slip at the end but it didn't cost him and he seemed solid enough.

Delighted for him he finally kept a clean sheet. He was solid today. Made a very good save.

In Europe he'll be great, very composed in possession and also great at shot stopping. He's basically a hugely talented keeper with one flaw in his game, once he irons that out he'll be sorted.

Improved long shot save technique and from what I saw... he shouted on Fabio and few others.

He's really something, that Spaniard.

Can really see him growing in confidence the last few matches. Can especially tell as his kicking is coming back to him.

Top save tonight.

Easy game for him tonight with hardly any crosses. Has great agility, and speed with long range shots.

He handled well what was thrown at him (to be fair, not much). However, I wish our defense wouldnt put him under pressure so much with their shit, late back passes

Especially Fabio in the second half, when they got a shot off from inside the box.

He seems to have the right tools all in all, I'd like to see him deal with a congested box a bit better, but that'll come with experience, other than that, I for one am very excited about our goal keeping staff right now

Yes, I do which is more than I can say for you based on what you've posted.

For a start you'd know if you watched La Liga that Varas has been the main boy of late ... certainly not the 38 yr old Palop.

I doubt you'd get a single person of of any repute in the football world agreeing with you on Valdez - over the past couple of season's he been spain's most consistent keeper. Not top 5 is laughable in my book. Based on your descriptions it looks like you've got Valdez & Casillas mixed up.

Oh, you mean the boy that's about to hit 30.

Some interesting data in there.

The two things that stuck out for me were the high saves per game and the low clean sheets numbers... maybe skewed by the beginning of the season where people were having 20+shots on our goal perhaps??

Also, he saves more with his feet then anyone else, but I think everybody probably knew that already.
