David Alaba....

Good riddance. He's been absolutely atrocious as a CB this season, our worst defender by some distance, and after the public farce surrounding his extension I'm actually looking forward to see his back.
At this point, whoever caves in to his demands will massively overpay for a good (but not worldclass anymore) LB, an out of his depth CB and a very mediocre midfielder.

Based on this season I would agree both performance as well as drama wise. But maybe a move will also help with both, I feel he needs a change of scenery to refresh ambitions. I mean he has won everything there is with Bayern, while others like Lewandowski or the German players still have goal records to chase or the national team in mind, he has no goals left whatsoever.
Big red flag for any club that wants to sign him is if he demands to play in midfield.

How many players would that bring chelsea to singing this year then? 7?

Silva
Mendy
Ziyech
Werner
Havertz
Chilwell
Alaba

Nearly a brand new first XI for fwank

Yeah, they'd get a chalice full of poison if they make any midfield promises to him. He simply can't play there on the top level.
I also agree that he could regain some form elsewhere (if he's played at LB, that is), but even then: The wages he'll demand don't reflect what he can deliver. This isn't 2014 anymore, other LBs just provide more bang for their buck. I for one will be quite happy to see Davies develop there.

What are his salary demands? I feel like I need to know this before I can make my mind about wanting Chelsea to engage in contract talks with him.

Allegedly €20m p.a. and a 5 year contract with another €20m for his agent.
edit: that is £350k pw

Bayern have made it out to be a ridiculous salary, but £350k is fully befitting of a player of his calibre. How dare he ask for a top wage from those tight fisted Bavarians
Can't see Madrid being interested at that wage though, especially with club captain, Ramos looking to renew... Although they've fecked off club legends on a whim before, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised if they do so again

I know it doesn't work like this but if by some miracle we can get rid of Rojo, Jones, Fosu Mensah and Romero in January we can afford more signings like this.

I am always wary of buying players from Bayern. I know he won the treble last season, but has he shown any noticeable decline this season? Or is it just a case of, I have won everything here and want a new challenge, type thing?

On a side note, Chelsea look set for the next decade.

Still can't believe that they waved handkerchiefs at Casillas. Isn't he their greatest ever keeper?

He’s been shocking indeed but to be fair I don’t think he was that good, he’s used as centre back due to his ball playing ability. I thought your defense has been solid on paper because Kimmich, Goretzka & Neuer.

After the Bastian debacle, I’d rather buy no one from them. They are too shrew and stingy that whoever they sell must be because he is way past his expiry date.

Damn wheres that come from ?
Top player but where on earth would we buying him for ?
Lb ? we just brought chilwell.
Cb ? Maybe but hed struggle in the prem as a cb unless maybe frank wants to play a higher line in the future maybe ?
Dm ? We have kante in the lone holding role who looks back to his best i dont see why frank would change it up.
Odd links they are.

You're overrating Alaba. This is no VVD or even Ramos we're talking about.
He has been shocking this season and was on a steady decline from 2016 up until last year, where he had a decent season (not even a "great" one).
Paying him £350k- £400k per week + some massive signing bonus (his demands) would be insanity.

€40 million for one of the best defenders in the world... seems pretty outstanding when you consider David Luiz cost £50m at one point... and John stones was about £45 wasnt he
He's not one of the best defenders in the world. I'd be worried if we went for him, huge wages, won everything there is to win and is bang out of form. It would be a warning sign we're slipping into our old ways.

So much this. Really don't think anyone of our fans, that want him right now, actually watched him play lately.

A couple more transfer windows and Abraham will most likely be sold.

At which point he would be 24-25 years old and he'd have proven to be great at this level or he hasn't but letting him go at that age is hardly the indictment of Chelsea's commitment to youth players you think it is.

I don't believe his wage demands to Bayern are that high for one second.
These things usually happens in contract disputes, the player always gets smeared.

He wants to earn what Bayern’s highest earners get. What is not to believe?

No one will pay him even half of what he allegedly wants if he continues to play like he currently does.

Yeah he is supposed to have astronomical wage demands but maybe that has been reported wrongly

Bayern’s top earners are close to €20m p.a. so Alaba asking for £350k pw would make sense. IF he‘d play like one of their top players that is.

Just read on Goal that we are battling with City for him. Not sure if this is true, according to media, we’re probably after every person who kicks a ball

I know he isn't a good source but Goldbridge said on his show that we offered the most money but would prefer to go elsewhere.

I know David personally and talked to him (although of course only semi-jokingly) about the prospects of him joining United many times over the years. His most straight-forward reply was always that he wouldn't leave Bayern as long as he's playing and they're winning, because he has everything in Munich and is close to his family in Vienna. But if he were to ever go to England (and I think he'd rather play somewhere down South if he had to leave Bayern), he would only join Arsenal, as they were always his favourite team growing up. He's not the kind to chase money, and his father is his agent/manager.

They might have been his favourite team growing up but cannot see him turning down other teams to join them

He’s not the kind to chase money yet he’s asking Bayern for too much money?

So transparent Dave, we see right through you. Not even a discreet username either.

I didn't see him this year, so had no chance to talk transfer-muppetry with him, and talking about how much he makes and how far he would go to make more was always a bit of a taboo topic for obvious reasons, but I remember him mentioning a few times that he feels very appreciated and well-paid at Bayern (even though it was last year he said that). No idea if he truly feels now that he should earn more or he feels like he can't contribute more to Bayern going forward, but all I know is that he always mentioned how playing time and winning is most important to him. And that he would never join us, 'cause he loves Arsenal.

I watched the first half last weekend, he played in midfield. Bit similar to Fred when he played in midfield, he likes to get involved, made mistakes but he makes up for it with his work rate. He likes to press a lot and he has the pace to pressing the opposition players quickly. Other than that, not too much to offer, work rate pressing midfield when playing in midfield.

Putting a 5'11 centre back in front of a goalkeeper who doesn't take crosses would be a huge mistake. Unless we shifted to a permanent back 3 this wouldn't make sense at all.

Unless he's for DM of course.
