Not what we need at all. Alaba really is no great shakes as a CB. I've watched him enough there. And he's never been trusted as CDM so I assume he didn't cut it with the coaches either. He's a great LB. Excellent on the ball so only good at CB if your team absolutely dominate the ball. Good utility rotation option for Madrid. Our needs are different.
Would take Sergio at Utd if he ever left there because has always been my dream CB signing (not happening)
Is the general consensus that he doesn't have the physicality to work as a CB in the PL and that's the deal-breaker? Because he would appear to have everything else that United are looking for as a complimentary partner to Maguire:
Real Madrid - touted as his most likely destination, but surely they will keep Ramos given his legend status at the club, goals and leadership? Between him and Varane they'll have a tonne invested in that position, and according to everything Perez says they are strapped for cash.
Barcelona - see above, no money.
PSG - would appear to be sorted at CB with Marquinhos and Kimpembe, have more pressing issues / bigger targets.
City - would be a good addition at LB for them but they aren't going to break their wage structure and offer him anywhere near £400k p/w.
Juve - I mention them as they always seem to get quality freebies and would be willing to offer him the £400k p/w probably (seeing as they gave that to Ramsey FFS). But they have De Ligt at LCB, he doesn't provide a successor to Alex Sandro at LB given his age, and they would likely have to shift Ramsey + maybe 1 or 2 more to make this happen. And even if that's the case, they might well use the budget on Pogba.

very good analysis. I think the only thing that can put us off is his wage demands. He does have the physical capabilities to play anywhere. But as far as i see it, he will not get 400k anywhere (not sure if this is a rumor or a fact anyways). Other than that, he would be a very good signing that can add lots of experience to the team

I feel like people are over rating Alaba. He has had 1 season as a CB in the Bundesliga where Bayern dominate the ball in most games.
Fabinho has looked a good CB for Liverpool. I think for where we want to go, we need a dominant CB that will win every first ball. I do not see Alaba winning ariel duels much.

Where is the 400k thing coming from? No one is paying that.

Heard he is asking for 12-13 mill a year, if thats true then the deal is off, thats more than Ramos.
Real are meant to be set on Pau Torres who’s a left footed centre back and they’ve got Marcelo and Mendy at left back already so where would Alaba fit in there ?
is Torres not only if Ramos leaves ? hes a better LB then both mentioned, add in Marcelo must be getting on a bit but would be a big outlay for a LB if they are the wages he is waning
He must have a preference as to where he plays, surely that will factor in quite highly as to where he chooses to go.
Isn’t he trying to get a CDM/CM slot? Great left back, decent CB but there’s no point risking the signing if he wants to play out of position. BL is hard to judge and a lot of players look mint before coming to the PL plus he plays for Bayern. Would he really be that good outside of his position?

That's £200-£250k p/w - high but perhaps reasonable considering he's a really good player hitting the free market around his prime.
No chance is that more than Ramos either. He's definitely on more than that considering his profile and the wages Madrid are spending.
As always, wages in Spain are reported as net, i.e. you're looking at ~ £450k per week.
Why else do you think Bayern have failed to match his demands?

All points to Alaba looking for €20m p.a. which translates to £350k pw.
This is obviously gross and not net. Ramos is allegedly on €25m (£440k pw) at Real and Lewandowski and Neuer are Bayern’s top earners at something like €20m - €22m (£385k pw).
Bayern is not willing to make Alaba on of their top earners and this is the reason he wants to leave. I can only picture him going to Real or Barca.

Do you think that'll be the case? Baffling decision if so, they spent nearly £50m on Ferland Mendy who has played well so far and looks every bit Marcelo's natural successor.
The only reason this makes to me is off Ramos is actually off...
EDIT: Also to note Real have a £40m buy-back on Reguilon as an affordable future LB option too.

11m p.a after taxes surely? That as gross salary isn't very high at all and I'm sure he was already on the same or higher wages at Bayern. Must be something wrong in that or there are insane signing in fees that Bayern wouldn't want to match.
Initial rumors were that he wanted the same as Neuer and Lewandowski, which is around 350k if I'm not wrong.
Marca said he will play at CB. I guess as a replacement for Sergio Ramos. Certainly weakens Ramos bargaining position for a new 2 year deal. So it looks like Madrid were the only team stupid enough to pay the wages and agent fees Alaba and his agent were asking for.

I don't generally like these signings, they haven't really worked for us. We have seen a shift in approach that's worked better, why go back to the same ways that got us Falcao, Bastian, Di Maria, Alexis.
He has played CB for one and half season in a team that dominates the ball and didn't need to do much defending last season.
Look at the goals / chances Bayern concede. I do not think he is worth the wage and hassle.

I still reckon Ramos will sign a new contract and Varane will surely stay too with Zidane in charge therefore he only could play left-back for them (Yes Mendy played well so far).
Barca have not much money for transfers (respectively the wage bill) but Alaba to Barca would make much more sense.

Plus there finances are so bad that it looks like getting Messi off the books is the only way to start addressing that.

His passing skills are obviously good for a CB but not that great. Hummels and Boateng in their prime were miles better in this regard and still are comfortably.
But his defending skills are just okay, nothing more, especially against attackers that know how to use their bodies. He would get bullied in the PL i think.

To people moaning about the wages: there is no transfer fee, his total contract over 4 years will be around what - 50 million? Where do you get a top CB in his prime for that price? It's why players are running contracts down, so they can pocket the fee over the contract in wages instead of the selling club.

A top CB in his prime? He has played 1.5 season as a CB.
Not quite true, he has played the position before, most prominently in Pep's last season. A proper box-to-box center back.
in 15/16. If you are a top top CB, like some people go on about him, you would expect him to play CB in 16/17 or 17/18 o 18/19 but he didn't.
Bayern are a very functional team, the way they played last season under Flick, the CB was more for pace, passing because they were so good on the press and winning the ball back. Hardly did Bayern play a game where they had to defend for large parts of games.
At United, that is different, being a CB in a Pep, Klopp, Flick team is different to a defensive minded manager's team.
You should also include his signing on fees, which were reportedly very high too (20-30 million reported, don't know if it includes agents fees).
Didnt his agent want a £20mil fee or something crazy hence all the controversy. Be interesting to see what Madrid will pay the agent in the end.
