Not a €100m striker. The fee is insane. Glad we didn’t spend our whole budget on him. The problem is who else is there to sign now ?

Looks like Andy Carroll, plays like..

nah, unfortunately I think they’ve got a player with much potential. He will bang goals in. I’m curious how they will use him through

Quite an odd deal for Liverpool to be completing, they have never paid 100m for a player before and one that has had one good season strikes me as a huge risk, Im surprised they haven’t unearthed some gem in the bundesliga instead for 30m, but fair play if they want this guy.

Well yeah of course, but some people make it up like €40m is a lot nowadays while in a lot of cases it's actually the bare minimum to attract a talented player, let alone an established one.

Transfer fees only don't tell the whole tale either. Should Nunez join us, he would earn a third of what Haaland is earning at City per week.
Yeah, €40m is fairly standard these days. Haaland has come at a cut price, aside from the various unknown fees. He's basically a much better version of Nunez, but it was impossible for anyone to compete with them. I think you have done really well to get as close as you have to them. I do feel that it's very close between you two on paper, but I think that they are much better value than their one point title win suggests.

Only thing which pisses me off here is how quick Pool do their business. It is always done in a few days. Us; it is always whole summer saga. We needed a month to sign bloody winger from Swansea for 15 mil

Agreed.

He's a risk worth taking for Liverpool at the quoted fee, but doesn't make sense for us in our current predicament.
Do you think he'll be a top player? Players with technical qualities that are rough are always a scary prospect for me which is why I was never keen on this player.

I really don't know a lot about the player apart from YouTube compilations. I'd much rather see us drop a similar amount on Frenkie de Jong, which would vastly improve our midfield, and sign a cheaper, under the radar forward for a reasonable price, who would potentially help enhance the system of play.

Pool will get him for 75 to 80. And he will be a very good player for them. He was very impressive against them in CL. Its funny,some utd fans are happy to miss out,laughing about pool playing the fee..same ones laughed about vvd..we've harry now for more money.. and we will probably end up with dcl or richarlison next summer due the serious lack of options out there

€100m is an insane fee. If we were spunking that much on him, instead of Liverpool. The narrative in media would've been completely different

Expect him to improve under Klopp though, majority of players do. Not too fussed with this, was worried we'd blow all our budget on him when we have more pressing needs elsewhere

It always happens, No one wants to admit that they got a good player for a decent price. While we overspend on average

80 plus 20 mil is huge amount for player like Nunez. He is not Harry Kane or Lewa for who you know what you get. And it is not like they got him for 30-40 mil so we can say it is a bargain.
Maybe he will be good signing. Who knows. But it is a huge risk and i am glad that we didn't do it.

I think Jonathan David is a realistic alternative and has a little bit more about his game for what would probably be a lower fee. I also think any serious bid for Martinez would be considered due to the ongoing financial issues at Inter, especially if they do swing a loan for Lukaku.

:wenger: :lol:As if Nunez is gunna bugger off the Scousers for us what a load of absolute nonsense, ETH just trying to get more airmiles on his United credit card

Very good player and would love him at United, but 100m is a bit too much I think and it isn't like there won't be big striker prospects out there now or in the future :D Hope we're also looking at Isak and Abraham, 2 lower profile players but they could easily turn out to be as good or better than Nunez.

he's nowhere near a €100m striker. A delicate question: when has a South American striker stayed for a long time,5-10 years or more in the UK and at one club. I cannot recall one, I don't know if he speaks English.

It's much more complicated, i wouldnt spend €100m on him..

A pass from me

Stats taken from twitter:

19/20 season - 16 goals, 23xG
20/21 season - 6 goals, 10xG
21/22 season - 26 goals, 18 xG

21/22 - 0.46 npxG per 90
20/21->0.44 npxG per 90
19/20->0.43 npxG per 90

At the prices being reported, you're really depending on this season's overperformance on his xG being the sudden emergence of one of the Europe's best finishers rather than an anomaly season.

If he cost less you could argue that he'd be worth signing even if his returns regress and he returned below his xG as he did in the previous two seasons. But at €80 + €20 type prices he'd have to actually be the real deal and deliver on the level he's shown this season, especially given his weaknesses in general play.

Fabrizio Romano also saying that we're in contact with his agents right now, but yeah, seems Liverpool bound at this point. Seems like a high risk high reward signing to me.
