Darwin Núñez | Liverpool player | Fighter

New TikTok song incoming if the guy didn't wank himself to death

At the current rate, it's quite reasonable to predict that he's gonna get at least 20 goals this season (all comps) with maybe 5/6 assists.
For £85m, you'd might be slightly aggreived he's not getting more.
But not every marquee signings are Torres or Salah where the pretty much torched the league at the 1st go.
Expecting so is unwise, otherwise.

So what makes him an average footballer? Would you describe Haaland as an average footballer too? And why won’t he be near the 85m paid for him if he keeps scoring goals?

What the hells Haaland got to do with anything I’ve written? Haaland’s clearly world class as he’s been banging in goals at a crazy rate all his career. Nunez has one good season in the Portuguese league under his belt and that’s it. Going off what I’ve seen so far he’s lacking in technical ability and looks clumsy, he scores goals but I don’t think he’ll be prolific enough to compensate for the other areas of his game that are lacking. Could all change of course as he’s still young but I can’t say I’ve been impressed so far given the hype around him when they signed him.

Calm your tits, man.
At 24, Diego was at most 6 goals in 26 games striker; can you guess for who?
At 22, Darwin was already Primera League's top scorer with total 34 goals in 41 all competiatons.
It was only in his second season no less.
Diego was different player to Darwin.
Their similarities end at their passports and playing area.
Stop projecting your tits at me.

No one suggested he wouldn't score goals. He's playing as a striker for one of the top teams in the country, of course he will.

People just pointed out that he was a technical donkey, which he is.
Nah, you are looking for an out there

He has had some donkeyish moments for sure. But he is beginning to show some quality. You have to give credit when it’s due

Also playing for a top team and being a striker does not automatically give you 20 goals.

He seems to me from what I've seen to be a decent instinctive finisher, but poor with time and space on his side.

A bit lumbering, donkey vibes at times, good flashes, average.

Not WC, not garbage, just meh.

You definitely could, but I personally think it's a good sign. Not so much from the XG stat, but just the eye test and how even in cameos he's been able to get into positions and shown a real threat. There's no doubting the guy is a donkey, but he's adapting to a new league and a new team, and while he's been snatching at chances I think that facet of his game will settle down and he'll become a fairly consistent scorer with very apparent deficiencies to his game.

I said this last month and I think it's a fair summary. His goal return is already looking impressive. He's not actually played that many minutes, and while it's skewed a little due to coming on and scoring it's a good ability to have being able to come off the bench and influence games. I think he's only had about 600 minutes but he's got 5 goals and a couple of assists, which in a new team in a new league is a great start goals wise.

Having mentioned his deficiencies, from the highlights he looked a lot more comfortable today with facets of the game outside of getting in behind and leathering it. A couple creative passes and some assured moments on the ball too. Despite that there was still a few examples of his erratic technique when it came to his touch, and plenty of times where when he dropped deep to try and help facilitate a counter he ended up slowing things down with his poor weighting off the pass.

Hold on, I thought he was a bust after playing only 10 games after moving to a new Country to play in a new League. What happened?

Surely people on the Caf didn't jump the gun?

Both goals were typical donkey goals. He blundered into the right spot at the right time (broken clocks etc), flailed around like QWOP and happened to get the right contact that was needed, not by skill or intelligence, but in the same way a 4 year old child sometimes accidentally does something correct and the parents marvel at him and dare to believe he is some kind of prodigy.

Conclusion: donkey

(I haven’t watched them yet)

Thing is, while he's definitely looked like a donkey everytime he took more than 1 touch of the ball, he combines outlier physical tools(strenght, size, pace, explosiveness, stamina), with intelligent movement and is absolutely relentless. Those qualities mean as soon as he gets his finishing boots on he's gonna score a lot. And i mean, A LOT

Guy is averaging 0.7 xG per 90 and that figure is bolstered by 0.34 xAG. He's averaging over 1xG added to his team per 90 right now, and producing right in line with that....

It's a small sample so far, but i don't see it getting much worse, and more likely to get even better. And i don't care how much of a donkey you are on the ball, if your presence on the pitch means your team starts 1-0, you're a star

Doubting Liverpool's recruitment was unlikely to end well.

He looked decent yesterday, some nice touches and finishes for sure.

he still doesn’t seem like a Klopp player, though, but maybe that’s because we’re so used to him playing fast, technical, intricate players up front and he’s about as far from that as you can get. And obviously he isn’t worth that price tag.

funnily enough, he would have been perfect for Chelsea. Did they go for him too?

Is he better than Halaand yet?

A glorified Lukaku at best. Apart from sprinting back to help the full backs time and again, setting up two glorious chances and working the channels to drag the CBs around.

One for the future. Will get some goals here and there. Will be MotM sometimes and will be the worst on the pitch sometimes.

So you have a striker who is great at defending and a defender who is great at attacking, potential swap of positions?

He's averaging over 1 goal+assist per game. Every time he's on the pitch liverpool start 1-0 up. Of course he's worth the money

A few people backtracking on their comments about him being a complete flop already! Now it's 'he was always going to score goals, but he's a donkey'.

Silly really to write off any player after a couple of months. Especially one who has produced good numbers in a decent league previously and was highly rated. I'd imagine he'll be a key player for Liverpool in the next few years, but yeah he will have some flaws but if he reaches 20 goals every season which he looks like he'll do then he'll be a good signing.

I just want to point out that I've always believed in Darwin and that makes me the most right person on the caf.

I don't think I've been wrong on much this year except saying Putin wouldn't invade Ukraine but that hasn't been important.

The majority of fans on this site know he's a decent player and will go on to be more than decent, even for £10000m (the popular figure usually quoted here).

The problem arises when you start a WUM online (@WeePat ) you get the masses of MAGA followers not knowing the difference between reality and the joke. The alternate reality then becomes the norm. GERRONWIVIT! :wenger:

So we should all change our opinion based on next 72 minuted? Because he's literally played 972 minutes so far this year.

Read the first few pages of the Salah thread for perspective. He was meh on here then the tears and moaning when he lit the league on fire. Same will happen when 23yr old Nunez keeps getting better and scores at rates like he’s doing now. It’s inevitable.

Who cares?

I feel like fans are more knee-jerk nowadays. I always thought this forum was quite balanced in terms of having a bit of perspective. It's getting almost twitter-like where one good performance on a debut and a player is world-class.

I was reading this thread around 1/2 months ago, and I was surprised by how strong the opinions were on Nunez. It was inevitable that they would look stupid.

I know comparisons have been made to the likes of Lukaku (Lukaku never worked as hard IMO) and a variety of former Liverpool forwards but who he actually reminds me of most technically is Dirk Kuyt... Except that he's bigger, stronger, faster and scores goals.

That sounds like a good player to have in your team really.

It is not almost, that is exactly how it is. Players and managers can be world class in the weekend and shit in the midweek

 I forgot how rattled you all were during preseason. Good times.

Lukaku is not a bad comparison, but then Lukaku has had a pretty good career and racked up a stack in transfer fees

You mean like Haaland after the community shield? He was not good enough for the PL on here.

That's one way to butcher the stat:lol:
It's really not. Of course it doesn't mean they literally start every game 1-0 up, but the point stands. He's been extremely productive to the point that having him on the pitch generally means goals for Liverpool

Although I see the similarities, I think something he has on Lukaku is his work rate. I can't comment on his work in Italy as I've not seen him enough there, but in the PL he was very hesitant when it came to pressing and he lacked any real intensity when it came to this aspect. Nunez is really effective in this aspect, his physical qualities like his stamina and mobility really allow him to commit to applying pressure to the opposition, and he's good at tracking runners.
