Darts

Humphries has been unreal, really upped his game over the course of the tournament.

I would have loved having a mate like Littler at that age, there's no way he is getting ID'd

Luke Humphries is amazing. It's going to take a lot to beat him !!

I'm not a darts expert, but I watch all kinds of sports and there are things that are common amoung the greats of all sports: playing better under pressure, seeming to relish being under that pressure and universally excellent decision making. This lad shows all that. Anyone could understand if he came out at these late stages and the nerves and inexperience get the better of his talent, but the opposite is happening.

This level from Humphries is unbelievable. I hope he’s getting his best stuff out of the way before the final as nobody would fancy facing him in this form. The 110+ average… the number of ton plus finishes… savage.

Yup Humphries is stepping up big time here.

Feeling for Williams a bit as he’s played about as well as he can. No nerves but he’s 5-0 down.

Humphries almost under the radar here given all the attention on Littler but he's throwing just as well and hitting huge outshots regularly

Could be an absolute classic tomorrow

Fair play I didn't think he would improve to that degree. Absolutely battered him.

I think Humphries will feel the pressure of Littler’s speed/shock & awe tactics more than Littler will feel the pressure of the final. Even after Humphries’ performance, I think Littler is a strong favourite.

Humphries slight fave at 1.73 but sure it will be closer to Evs when the Littler sentiment kicks in tomorrow

Wow that was incredible darts by Humphries, that was even better than Littler’s performance although Humphries was never put under any pressure.

Best game of the tournament that by Humphries. Made it look so easy.

Great final to look forward to now. Best player of the tournament so far (Littler) against the number 1 recently in Humphries and who just played the best game.

Yes, spot on. It’s what separates the true greats from the crowd.

If Littler wins who knows if not maybe Aspinall.

Just had the biggest win of my career, beat a current county player, what made it more embarrassing for him they tried playing mind games with me, I had 70 left with 1 dart in hand, I even doubled checked I had 70 left and the Chalker said yes I hit the S10 to leave myself 60 but for some reason the chalker and player I was playing against said I had 50 left, I thought to myself if that’s the way you want to play it so be it, so I went D10 D15 .

That's fecked. What's wrong with his parents to allow this?
I Know if it was the other way round he would be called Luke Fiddler, but as it’s the woman older 21 and the male 16 nothing will be said about it.

Apparently tonight had the second-highest average in history across the semis only after 2017 which had MVG at his absolute best hammering a Barney who still averaged over 109, and Wright v Anderson in the other semi. More impressive still when you consider Williams was a considerable way below the other three tonight.

Littler will definitely be in. I like Bunting but I think he’ll be out. Maybe Anderson for the 8th spot (too English otherwise).

Littler wins then he's definitely in, if he loses there will still be pressure to put him in, but its brutal the PL, loads have struggled, Aspinall instead of Bunting I'd say.

Well done that's some going. Been that kind of night darts wise. All kinds of peacockery going on. To beat a current county player and the manner you did it well done again.

 I wish I was that good, no I went for a S10 to leave tops, but double double was a lot sweeter.

(just clear up the 70 with the last dart I was on 132 hit the Bull and a S12)

The final is going to test the resilience of both of them.
Whoever isn't strong mentally will lose.

He's very reminiscent to that Udinese player

A few observations from this years tournament for me.

It feels like the old guard are going to slowly start fading away. They started out on tour probably averaging somewhere in the 90s. They've then in the last few years had to up that to keep up, and now players are regularly going well over 100, they haven't got the legs left to keep up.

Whereas a lot of the newer generation are still improving and can up their numbers.

Players like Wade, Anderson, Wright, Barney - it's difficult for me to see how they get close to another WDC Final. MvG is no spring chicken but it feels like he has a bit more time on his side, as do Price and Aspinall and a few others.

Tonight I believe is the first time 2 former Youth Champions will meet in the PDC Final. Straight away that's quite significant.

With Smith, I think a few people in this forum foresaw what happened to him. He was like the Jimmy White of darts, so desperate to win a major and when it looked like it would elude him he finally found a way to get it done.

I think that killed just enough of his hunger that I didn't consider him a major contender this year.

And coming on to Littler, I worry the same might happen to him. If he wins tonight, his world - which is crazy enough already after the last two weeks - will go absolutely nuclear.

He won't be able to move for TV & radio interviews for the next few weeks, he'll have people begging for appearances everywhere.

And the PDC will do everything in their power to make sure he's on the PL roster. Now he's said himself that he's not sure if they will and given his reasons. But realistically if he wins £500K then he's not going to be too bothered about pursuing any other aspect of his life in the immediate future i.e. education.

For someone so young it will be very interesting to see how he copes with the title of World Champion.

Darts is a very fast evolving sport and if you stand still for even a day there are lots of players out there only too happy to catch you up, and with all of his media commitments and additional travel etc. will he perform at the same level next year?

I don't know if anyone heard Paul Nicholson on TalkSport this morning (him and the rest of the TS darts team are brilliant by the way), he was saying how it's all going academy based now in each region so rather than going from pub to county to stage, there are darts academies producing players just like football teams do. So the competition year on year is going to become incredibly fierce and of an extremely high standard.
