Gaming Dark Souls II

I just started playing the first Dark Souls. Damn, had to relearn how to play games!

I'm also getting wrecked by the Taurus Demon at the moment, 7k souls i left of that bridge. Oh, also a black knight guy beat me up a couple of times on the way to the Taurus Demon too.
Never go through the fog when you have lots of souls with you. And for the Taurus demon, climb on the tower in your back when you enter and make a jump attack on him, repeat this two or three times and he's gone.

Yeah i didn't realize you couldn't go back through the fog if you haven't beaten the boss. I did the plunge attack from the tower once on my first try and then thought i could just fight him normally, got smashed to bits mid-roll. Second time i got two plunge attacks in on him before i got stuck under him and he smashed me to bits. I'll give it another go in a bit and see if i can't take him out.

Is there a nice weapon to be found early in the game? I'm still using my starting broadsword which is taking three hits to deal with most enemies in the Forest.

Bumped for new page.

I bought the scimtar at the start but if you can kill the sleeping white knight dude he dropped me a heide knight sword which I've been using for a long time. It's a lightning sword and has been great.

You can also get the fire longsword from somewhere picked that up pretty early too.

Ah forgot about that guy. Just went and killed him :D. His sword's damage stats are less than my default knight sword though. Even if I add up the lightening damage it's 75 normal plus 50 lightening while my normal sword does 140 straight. Am I missing something?

Got the fire sword too thanks to a newbie. Will be a while till I have the stats to wield it.

I think enemies tend to have weaknesses to elements so the lightning sword would be better. Physical damage is always worse than a weapon which has an element on it, unless you use raw stones. I think anyway... Level it up a couple of times and see what you think. You get a tonne of shards later in the game anyway.

Will do. I'm being too stingy with my shards.

Get the drangleic sword and the armor set, you find it by jumping down the hole in the place right after the pursuer boss fight before the eagle takes you off to last Bastille. You need 25 strength and 20 dexterity but its a great sword, and the armor set in general is just really good.

So I finally realised why it seemed everything was super hard. I had joined the champions covenant! Apparently that notches the difficulty up even harder. Do NOT recommend that for anyone

glad I read this thread! I wondered why my progress dried up all of a sudden, I had put it down to tiredness having had a decent session on it but turns out it was that stupid covenant I joined. I wondered why previously 2-hit kill skeletons were suddenly soaking up five hits! i love this game

It's proper ridiculous. Every boss was taking at least 3-4 hours to beat and I couldn't understand how people thought some of them were easy!

my weapon was constantly breaking too! in fact the closest I came to beating the 3 sentinels was scuppered when my sword broke on the last one I probably would've managed it otherwise. stupid-ass covenant!

My copy has finally arrived but I can't play because my missus is watching the little house on the bloody prairie.

Damn you Charles Ingalls!

I'm definitely finding this the easiest of the lot so far. No doubt that will change eventually.

Where do you get the White Soapstone? Thought I'd help people out at the bosses in the Forest but I don't have a stone to put down my summon sign.

Talk to that knight sitting on the ground close to the room with all the crossbows in it, clear the place past the gate then talk to him again.

Peter Serafanowicz!

I'm just pottering around in the forest at the moment. Done nothing of consequence. Just learning the layout. Nice and easy.

I've not even played it for 2 days tbh.

Those saying it's easier - is that probably because you've got previous Dark/Demon Souls experience? I'd imagine that would be a big factor.

That's probably why, and a big reason would be that you are guaranteed to be able to summon 2 people at all times unlike before where the game wasn't as popular. At least for me I had to do most of the previous game solo, this one is hard but manageable because you have 3 people attacking at once always.

So I'm fighting the second white knight who drops the heide spear. We're trading blows and I get him down to what I thought was dead... Instead he's actually got 1 health left so is still alive. Just as I realise and swing another strike at him he launches an attack meaning we both die at exactly the same time.

I see the shiny object on the floor as the 'you died' message appears. No problem I'll head back and pick it up as I pick up my souls. Only, when I get there... No spear and no white knight.

I then used the bonfire ascetic which makes the area harder and the white knight respawns. Sadly this time he only drops a heide helm. I'm not happy, I loved the lightning spear in DS1 and was planning to use the heide spear as my main weapon.

That sucks man. :(

How do I best allocate points for my knight? Str > end > vit > faith? Never played melee in DS1.

Str or Dex depending on what weapon you want to use. Then yeah End and Vit are important. I'm ignoring faith.

Cheers mate.

My own hitbox vs. some of the monsters/bosses are a bit irritating. Especially that (awesome-looking) griffin knight has a sweeping strike that constantly hits without me being visibly hit. Any tips or should I just continue to bash my head against the wall til it cracks? :p

Can anyone suggest some good mid-late game weapons? I need something new to aim for. Currently using the Dragnelic sword +1 but I'm bored with it.

Yeah I'm still using the drangleic sword mainly and I'm pretty much done the game, have 1 or 2 more bosses to beat. The manslayer (best type of katana by far) is a really good one although you get that pretty late. Maybe try using one of the boss weapons and upgrading them? Falchions work pretty well too if you upgrade them and everything.

I have one sword that is better then drangleic and faster but I forget what it is. If that helps:p

The boss weapons all seem pretty terrible to me so far using a dex build. Hoping to pick up a katana soon, am in the iron keep atm.

Only one I use all the time is the dragon rider bow, best bow I think. You'll get a black steel katana from killing the people in iron keep, pretty common drop. When you get the ember from there, give it to the blacksmith in lost Bastille and he sells an uchigatana as well as upgrading your weapons.

About 4 bosses in now, game feels pretty much the same as Dark Souls with better graphics.

Do you really think so? I can't help but think they could have done a lot better graphically and with the framerate. Most of the game takes place in dark, dull environments which look pretty similar to Dark Souls for me.

Most of the boss designs have also been very disappointing so far; both from a visual and gameplay point of view. You can kill most of them by just strafing around and keep your shield up.

Yeah on the 7th boss now, the graphics are a fair bit better but the actual gameplay is more or less exactly the same. I know there are hexes, but a new magic discipline could just be an add on to Dark Souls, theres no need for a whole new game for it. For me the game is pretty much Dark Souls 1.5 more of the same but with better graphics, which is a little disappointing given they've had time to advance all the systems. However if you finished Dark Souls and literally just want more content of exactly the same game then you're going to be happy to buy this.

I agree the environments look very similar to Dark Souls or Demons Souls. They even put Ornstein in again... Oh here's the annoying poison swamp area again etc. Currently walking around a forest that looks exactly the same as the area a covenant summoned you to protect, next to the cat npc who can give you the stealth ring.

Would have loved to have seen the game on ps4. Oh well.

I hope they take their time with the sequel. This probably came out too soon to be more than just Dark Souls 1.5.

Wouldn't be surprised if they do a tomb raider and release it on next gen in 2015. Especially considering how much they had to reduce the game's graphics to run on Ps3/360.

We'll see what the pc version looks like, if it's significantly better than the console release I think a PS4 version is likely.

I think they're planning on making Demon's souls 2 for PS4, so that has the potential to be very good graphically. It's still good now, just nothing amazing from a graphical viewpoint, the gameplay is great though IMO.

Also, has anyone beat the game yet? I have the Ancient Dragon, Vendrick (both optional bosses) and the last person left to beat, but the first two just one shot you every time pretty much so it makes it hard. Also Vendrick has defence multipliers if you don't get soul of giants, starting at x32 normally, then 16, 8, 4 and 2, and then just normal defence if you have 5 giants souls. I have 4 currently but the Ancient Dragon has the last one and he's impossible to beat.

Shame it gets so damn dark once you've done 4-5 bosses, because the scenery around Mujala and HToF is beautiful.

Finished the game yesterday could've finished a lot sooner but wasn't playing it everyday and spent a decent amount of time farming to level up. Didn't start ng+ yet as you can use bonfire ascetics to get individual bosses to ng+ and then just travel there through the bonfire! aiming to get the other boss weapons I missed out on. Also the last boss is amazing to farm for souls. Basically a double boss fight, first you fight these 2 people who aren't too bad and en right after the final boss fight whose health isn't that great. Pretty easy as long as you have 3 people.

Anyway, I got 240k souls from using an ascetic there and doing those 2 fights, only downside is watching the credits every time.

What class did you finish it as?
