Gaming Dark Souls II

£15 for the prepare to die edition (quick Amazon glance) is a terrific pick up.

Prepare To Die Edition is well worth getting. It's a proper example of how to do DLC.

The DLC contains probably one of the best boss battles in gaming, in my opinion.

Artorias.

Interesting as I loved Assassins creed, but felt it's falldown was its repetitiveness and how easy it became, once you caught one theif, you would catch them all, once you had beaten someone up once, it was pretty standard... this does look a lot more advanced..

You certainly won't have that problem with a Souls game, but it's a very different kind of animal. While Assassins Creed tries to incorporate a lot of different ideas and gives you a ton of stuff to do, Demon/Dark Souls is all about the combat. Sure it's an RPG with stats, weapons, armor, etc and there's some lore to be found, the combat is still the main attraction. It's very focussed.

I still haven't beaten him. I got within a fleas pube the last time too.

You have to be quite patient with this game. You can kind of compare it to Zelda a bit, in that you have like dungeons/areas to go through and boss battles and its a big open world and you are alone in it pretty much. It's much darker though, and the combat is a lot harder. You basically have to always keep your shield up, learn how to parry and all that stuff and pick your moments when to attack wisely, because if you think you can just jump in and start slashing away at people like in most games, you'll die right away and won't get far. It's known for being a really difficult game, but really its more just learning how to play it because the combat is way different to what most games are (a lot better).
I'd highly recommend it, especially as it wouldn't be too expensive but you can put so many hours into it and its loads of fun, although there are 1 or 2 annoying areas to go through like every game.

That fight is almost impossible unless you have somebody else with you. The hardest fight for me though is the dragon in the DLC, especially trying to get his tail cut off to get the sword. I managed to do it with 2 other people and it wasn't even me hitting him, I just kept running away trying to survive

Did it all by myself. /smug

He killed me about 30 times before I finally beat him though. And I'd say 25 of those times, I didn't realise there was a shortcut so there was a 5-10 minute trek to the bastard everytime.

Comes out on Tuesday here, can't wait
Forgot to pre order it so I'm just hoping it'll be in store when I go, I'm sure it will though. Sucks that it's not on next gen though.

Can't believe how many walk through videos for this are already on YouTube. One guy has uploaded 19 parts. I'm compelled to watch even though I know it will spoil the opening.

I watched the first video of one of them, or at least some of it, its not like anything important happens in the first 20 minutes or so anyways. So pumped to get this.

Just picked it up, I think it comes out in Europe on friday. Will probably start as sorcerer class although the swordsman seems really fun, just difficult without a shield.

Getting immensely good reviews. My birthday is lining up nicely for this. :)

It's amazing so far. Although I'm stuck at this one boss fight, so fecking annoying. Same old dark souls
Really liking he little changes they made, like you being able to jump from bonfire to bonfire right from the start, and it's pretty necessary considering you can level up only at the main place.

Is the path you should take more clear? I remember in the last one there were areas open to you early on which you were nowhere ready to face.

From what I can gather, yes. Watch from 3:50 to 4:14 (not giving away any spoilers).

Apparently no. The first path is, but after you kilt he first boss there are like 4 other bosses you can do af that time

The path I took seemed the most logical, yet e boss fight I'm at is next to impossible, especially as the servers stopped working last night so I had to try it solo. It wasn't working with 2 others though so it's not a big deal. I think I'm going to go somewhere else as the place I'm at I think is meant to be the 3rd or 4th area, rather then 2nd.

What's that supposed to show? It just jumps back and forth between bits from the beginning and the next few areas.
The way I went seemed like it should be the right way as it was all pretty linear I guess, but apparently it's the wrong place for now (not surprising considering I've died way too many times
I've found out that the enemies stop re spawning after you kill them a certain amount of times, so you can't grind certain parts. That's how many times I've died on this part

I think I know the boss you're referring too. Won't lie, I ran away without even attempting it

Perhaps I was unclear. It's not about what it shows but what he says during that interval. In essence, the game is more linear in the beginning to avoid overwhelming the under-levelled player. That's how I interpreted it.

Oh, i had my volume off so would have missed it. But I just found out where I actually supposed to go, and it's very simple although really easy to miss it.
A little lever in the wall to open a gate, but I've been there and unless you look for it specifically you won't see it

@RedSky At Night
I watched a few parts of a walkthrough this morning, could be the Mirror Knight that a lot of people are talking about. That bird drops him then flies off. He kinda zooms at you with his shield raised.

edit/ no I don't think he is the Mirror Knight. But I know the boss you mean...looked tough.

I haven't got a clue what this thing is called, I walked up a ladder and a giant bird dropped this big armoured fecker onto this battlement. I legged it! He looked really mean :(
That's the pursuer, he's a boss shortly after the giant guy, that part is just optional to fight him. I did the same as you

Can't wait to play this tomorrow. I'll be hibernating all weekend. Anyone had any experience with multiple classes yet that can comment on which they've found the most fun?

Yeah this...anyone?

I see they've took Pyromancer out, the rotten sh*ts.
I started as a sorcerer, it's harder then the last game I think. You can level up staves at the blacksmith now too, makes them better. I tried e swordsman class a bit and it's really fun but having no shield makes it hard as you rely on parrying with a sword or just rolling away always. Didn't try the other classes but I'm assuming knight or warrior is the easiest starting class, as you start with a sword and shield and good stats.

I have to say, I was a little sceptical that they were going to tone down the difficulty a bit and make it more for the general public because it got way more publicity then Dark Souls 1, but I'm delighted that they didn't do that at all. There's the odd easy area and a couple easy bosses, but even then if you take them lightly for a second you'll die.

It's like a bit of a blend of Demons souls and Dark souls the way the levels are made and everything, but it takes the best of both IMO. Even better then both of them for me.

Looking forward to this when it comes down in price. I'm thinking of downloading Artorias of the Abyss for PS3 but if they fixed the Blight Town frame rate issues on the PC I may go for the Prepare to Die on PC version. Any advice?

I'm quite close to caving and buying the Prepare To Die edition of the original game. I never played it before but i've recently seen a fair few videos and whatnot and i think it looks quite fun. Only thing stopping me is whether i'll be able to get over the frustration of getting killed repeatedly

I presume it's still well worth getting even though DSII is out now?

Must have died, no joke, about 50 times to that two handed club giant dude, just how do you kill it?!

The first boss??? That's like the easiest boss fight in the game (well, easy for dark souls standards), you just attack the legs and stay between his feet
Its just hard if you keep a distance from him.
