Danny Welbeck to Sunderland (Loan Watch)

With the way he plays, he'd be perfect on the left of a front three, which would suit us down to the ground and allow us to move away from 442.

Is it just me or is he working a lot harder for Sunderland than we'd grown used to? Even if that's all he gained from the loan spell, it's a huge plus. Could just be because he's feeling more at home with his physique now, and it's probably already been mentioned. But still.

Agree with Mike, but even more than that I think the fact that it allows us to switch between the two seamlessly is something Sir Alex has been looking at.

What a great move. He is getting some great experience and he is improving massively.

Danny!

He's so much bigger than he was even a year ago. It's been said for years that he'd be a formidable prospect once he started filling out and losing that 'bambi on ice' gait about him, and we're finally starting to see that.

Just been subbed off as we enter the 90th minute.

The boy was brilliant today. Good ball control, vision, worked extremely hard and could have scored 3.

When Fergie tipped Welbeck for World Cup, people gulped in surprise. If 28-year-old Bothroyd can get in #eng squad, why not Welbeck? #safc

It's also a psychological thing. When your in your home club squad, especially at a big club, youngster's have a tendency to defer to the senior players. In a loan situation, that tendency is dulled by the fact that you won't be around these players for long enough to have that "pecking order" really make a difference in the way you play.

One can see a perfect counter-example in Macheda's body language/presence/performance on the pitch this season.

great performance from the kid today. deserved his goal. his touch and confidence on the ball seem to have come on leaps and bounds. linked up really well. at 19 almost 20 he now looks a serious prospect

1757: About a minute left and this one is game over. Ahmed Elmohamady comes on for the dying stages and Danny Welbeck, after the performance of his young career so far, is warmly applauded off. Stunning display.

From BBC

He has been stunning today, any doubt that whether he has got enough talent should be erased from this display. Well done Danny!

Undoubtedly his best ever game. Starting to really look like a player. His games coming together nicely. Starting to hold the ball up well, using his body strength, decision making, awareness of team-mates. This loan spell could do wonders for him.

Be interested to see what the Sunderland fans think of him now. It looked like they hated him last time I saw some quotes.

Yes, Danny boy.

He's really taking advantage of his loan. Sunderland are showing faith to play him in big games and he's rarely let them down so far. He should come back to us as a much more mature and confident player.

:) Well done for giving Chelsea a present from us.

Just fabulous for their second goal. Brilliant performance from him overall, although the same could be said for every other Sunderland player. I also think Darren Bents lack of hold up/build up play hinders Danny. Not only that, Bent is always the focal point of the attack (scored all of their Premier League goals before last week, or something) and that might be why Welbeck hasnt been able to score too many goals.

He was flawless, showed some incredible level of maturity. He knew when to pass , when to make runs, when to cover the spaces defensively.Fantastic performance, what a great talent this kid is.
feck the cnuts who doubted him

And he was in his best positions. Footballs a complicated game alright :)

Nope, since Bent got injured, and he's been allowed to play more in the middle...they've loved him.

Sunerland are a better side with Gyan and Danny. Bent is hopelessly one dimensional, and while he gets his goals, it takes away from how Sunderland can play potentially.

Just look how far he's come since his debut:

He was a tangly, skinny boy that looked like bambi on ice, he's now filling out his physique and I think his technique and pace will mean he will eventually make it here.

TBF on pure end product alone it'd be hard to progress much more from that.

Minor Trivia Note (that may not be true): IIRC SAF had him benched in the reserves after that goal for his "arrogant" celebration.

Hope that forum of Sunderland fans take it all back.

Cracking display Danny. Loved the celebration in front of the Chavski mob.

So glad for him, the talent is there for anyone who's bothered to watch as I've been arguing for all these pages, will be a United player, no doubt.
