The first got us knocked out of the FA Cup, the next puts us in a good position in our Round of 16 Europa League game, and the latest was an actual decent performance against Arsenal at Old Trafford.

He's definitely getting the pitch time, and in the biggest games. How he channels the experience remains to be seen, but it's not one of those wasted loans.
I know i shouldnt take joy in Campbell getting injuried but that has really given him minutes on the board as i doubt he would have started ahead of Campbell or that £13m striker they brought.
Still i thought he was a threat throughout the game and put in a really good performance, took on his man and gave johnson a good test

His versatility and ability to play out wide is a huge advantage, which has given him loads of match time. Looks like shipping him out to Brucey was a great move and should really contribute to his development. The guy doing the Arsenal game on SSN reckoned he was really decent. Good to hear.
He played very well - worked hard and his movement was very good off the ball. His touch was excellent and he rarely gave the ball away and should have won a penalty for them after being flattened by Reina just before the 2nd Bent goal.
I still think Sunderland can get more out of him if they give it to him to feet around the box rather than looking to cross early for Bent all the time. Hopefully him and Malbranque can forge a decent understanding and he will flourish a bit more.

He was one of their better players. Good movement, always showing for the ball and looking to move it forward. Promising.
He should be good enough for United one day but finding a place for him to fit into the team looks almost impossible for years to come!
With Owen gone soon, and Berbatov realistically staying maximum 3 years. Then he could be a part of the squad till then. At which time he be 21. People forget how young and raw he still is. Yes his technique is good for his age, but another loan spell next year is not unrealistic.

Danny's always seemed to be a confident player. Wasn't there some talk of Fergie telling him off for cocky celebrations? (Might have been daft press rumours though). Nice to see someone that believes in themselves though.
I think he seemed more confident playing at Sunderland, it's a good loan move and he's starting to look a player. The game time he can get over there is invaluable.
I watched the full match, Welbeck did awesome, his touches were Henry-esque, also his movements, did super well in tight spots and rarely gave the ball away.
You just got to love his movements, very positive.
He and Malbranque were the soul reason's for the 56-44 Possession advantage for Sunderland.
imo. He's certainly doing well in a wide area, but you can really sense that his preferred position would be the front...

He won't need to go on loan again next year. He will be as good as Hernandez next year. To me he is a different sort of player to Macheda and Diouff. He has more options.
He will be 20 in November and when he comes back he should be a pretty well rounded player, ready to back up any of the first choice strikers.
Just think lads. Rooney, Berba,Hernandez, Wellbeck, Kiko and Diouff and each not exactly alike, but offering so many different options for us.
With the coaching staff and Sir Alex's guidance, we should be well served for years.

He really is what everyone who watched the reserves said he was...a really talented bright kid, who is still figuring things out. His appearances for United were deceptive, I think the occasion, pressure + match situations probably got to him a bit, and he looked rushed.
But Welbeck now, looks a lot more composed as a player.

It's sad we are playing them now when Welbeck has established himself in the squad. I get the feeling that Bruce wants to give Gyan a chance but hasn't been able to because Danny has done so well

I have watched Sunderland highlights every now and then, where Welbeck has been very quiet. Though he has played wide a few (every?) times. Highlights are no way to judge the contribution of an individual player.
The fact he's still starting games for them is evidence enough that he's performing at a decent level.
He played well against Liverpool.
That just proves how misleading statistics are. I watched the game, and thought Danny played really well. He was operating wide, and got involved, caused the Liverpool defence problems, and never looked overawed.
Also really liked the confidence/balls he showed when he came off, standing up to a fair amount of abuse from the Liverpool crowd. I've been impressed by his start to his Sunderland loan spell, and the fact that he's kept his place (so far) despite Gyan arriving can only be a good thing
he has looked quality in all the matches. making an impact, not losing the ball and looking very comfortable on ball, even when surrounded by 2-3 players. he is already rated as better than Campbell by Sunderland fans(which we knew even before he went there, but the Sunderland fans did think it was a bit of a pointless loan, but now have come around to acknowledging that he is a good presence on the pitch)
Indeed. I wanted to qualify (or non-qualify) what I've seen by saying that it is only highlights that I've caught.

Me too but that won't happen until Bent or Gyan get injured. Meanwhile, the main thing is he's playing football and playing well, by all accounts.
It's very important at this age, what with the competition in our squad. Particularly when you look at Rossi's frustrating time at Newcastle, where they should have found room for him for themselves more than anything.
He is fine where he is, out wide with a decent amount of freedom about his movement. Playing centrally can be a very harsh experience in the top flight and whilst everyone sees his future lying there he is still too young to be burdened with the expectations of being a centre forward.
To put it simple, if plays centrally then every aspect of his game will come under scrutiny and unless he hits the goal trail soon then patience with him is going to be tested.
What Welbeck needs at the moment is minutes on the pitch and playing where he is now guarantees plenty of them.
I think we should look at the positives, for Bruce to start him at the weekend was a massive vote of confidence. His form will only improve as the sunderland players get used to his style.

Lol, he wasnt even playing up top, he was playing wide left, and in any case, he was supporting Bardsley at LB a lot. It was that sort of game...

I saw a bit of the match as well and thought he generally played within himself, basically looked to retain the ball and keep it simple and keep the team shape. He has such a silky touch though and always looks class when he does get the ball. He got an elbow in his face from Gerrard when he tried to control a high ball by juggling it between Carragher and Gerrard. I suspect Gerrard did not appreciate the skill being demonstrated at Anfield.
I somewhere heard that in the Liverpool game he had a 100% passing accuracy.
