Danny Welbeck to Hull for £10m?

I honestly think as a pair Rooney and RVP don't really suit each other. Either RVP or Rooney playing with Welbeck gives us a more balanced look.

Every time Rooney and RVP play together it seems to end up with Rooney dropping deeper and deeper. This season Id love to see him play upfront and stay there!

Rooney and RVP looked very comfortable playing together the season before last and that's despite Rooney having to drop deep and do a job there. The new formation alows them both, in theory, to play in their preferred position and Rooney wont have to drop deep because Mata is in there to do that job.

You're entitled to your opinion but I'm personally excited about the Mata/Rooney/RVP line up - its as good as anything in the PL if the system works well. RVP is one of the best forwards in the world and Van Gaal should be able to get the most out of him.

If you don't rate Welbeck, then you know feck all about football.

To which degree though?

Welbeck seems to be exclusively rated by United supporters, British ones in particular. He's obviously a good player, there's no denying that. If he was allowed to play regularly as a targetman for a midtable PL club, then we could probably expect to see 10-15 goals a season from him.

But my intuition says that Welbeck never will be a top striker who's good enough to start regularly for United. Seeing as it's popular to play with no.10's and most likely will stay that way for a while, Welbeck might have to deal with the fact that he's always gonna be third/forth choice at best. It's a great deal for us obviously, because you could hardly ask for a better third choice striker. But is it good enough for him?

It's strange that people keep on bringing his goal scoring record when infact he has played the majority of his two seasons as a left winger.
He played as a striker during the December period last season and was in fact our best player during that period.

You're talking in absolutes that can in no way form the basis of rational discussion. It's more a case of degrees, ie how much you rate Welbeck.

Don't get that logic at all. Quibbling over the fee aside, since when do we need to sell one player to fund another?
It's not like that per say, but again 15m IMO is a fair return for a player of Welbeck's ability. We don't need the money, but if we sell him we will be a player short so we can buy someone that can improve us more.

We sure as hell couldn't buy a better reserve striker for that money. Not in today's market. The squad clearly needs strengthening in other areas but flogging Welbeck to do so makes no sense.

Don't know where the feck they pulled that £10m fee out of, but it would be beyond ridiculous. Anyway, fingers crossed there's nothing in this.

well, even if they offer 20m, I don't think he would go there. I'd understand him if it was Newcastle or Everton, but there's no way he would go from here to Hull or Palace.

Exactly, some pretty hilarious claims here. Also love how I'm being personally attacked for stating my opinion that Welbeck isn't "far too good" for Hull. He's obviously better than them but if he wants to be a guaranteed first choice he needs to be at a club in and around the Europa challenge area, then maybe he can move on to a bigger club after that.

"the drop-off is massive after Danny"

lol i cant believe i read that.

Not even sure what that means. Play him up top and he scores goals. I'd happily rely on him to do that for us.

There's no proof of that at top level.

Don't use the period last season to prove it because you could just as easily say it was a purple patch.

To me, he's like Saha. Scores difficult goals when he doesn't have time to think perfectly well but when you really need him to score a 1 on 1 he's fecking rubbish. Remember the Bayern game last year when he missed that guilt edged chance? I'd have given everything to have it fall to anyone but Welbeck.

I'd let him go, but only if there is someone serious coming in. Otherwise, what's the point? United will just end up getting rid of half the squad with no one coming in. With injuries on top we could just end up naming Rooney and DDG on the team sheet in a future game.

Welbeck just isn't as good as van Persie or Rooney.

But is that a valid reason to send him packing? I say nay!

Is Danny off then? I really hope not. :(

Kid has great qualities but he still hasn't managed to fully put them together. Sell with a buy back clause is what id say, lets see what Wilson has to offer
