Sir Matt played for them & City, imagine the modern day melt down and people getting offended if he were to take the role now . I care not where we get players from, simply that they're the required standard.

Different times.

this is the thing. he’s a good player though. It would only take a few goals and people would warm to him like they did to Micheal Owen…

Oh i'm not saying he isn't.

Did United fans ever really warm to Owen?

I didn't and not just because he played for Liverpool, he's a Twat.

Would make sense if we were making enquiries whilst Cavani was looking like an uncertainty. Doubt we’re still interested.

I can’t see us selling Martial now, his value will be at an all time low and in a weak economy. We’ll rotate him with Cavani and hope he can find some form and for speculant clubs to recover financially before we decide on selling him on.
He's like Bitcoin.

In my opinion we need a top right-winger so much more than a striker therefore to have Cavani, Ings and Greenwood as strikers would be really fantastic......Greenwood is hopefully our long-term striker but he has showed this season that he needs at least another season to play 40+ matches for this role.......AND he can learns so much from Cavani next season without too much pressure.

Ings would surely love to play a couple of seasons for a top club and would be perfect to share the minutes with Cavani.

In: Ings (15m) + Sancho (85m)
Out: Martial (40m) + James (20m) + Lingard (30m) + A.Pereira (5m) + Chong (5m) + Mata (Free)

ST: Cavani + Ings (+ Greenwood)
Wingers: Rashford + Sancho + Greenwood + Diallo
AM: Fernandes + Van de Beek + Hannibal

Then we can focus to buy a top CDM, top CB and a cheap RB back-up.

Would Danny Ings even want to join us to be likely 3rd choice striker? Pay day aside it'd be a waste for him, coming to warm the bench and know every season he'll play less and less as our youngsters further develop and we bring in a new big name player.

What makes me laugh and this is not at you is that you list Martial (40m) + James (20m) + Lingard (30m)

We would probably get 60 max if we could actually sell them

Third choice to who?

At the moment our strikers are Cavani and Martial. The assumption would be that Martial would be the one to lose out if Ings comes in. And if we sign another striker in a subsequent transfer window, they replace Cavani who is likely only here for another season.

As for Greenwood, Solskjaer said just a few weeks ago that it would be years before Greenwood shifted into the CF role. So hardly an immediate threat to Ings.

Yeah don't think he ever made the Champions League with the scousers so might fancy playing in it next season, presume you are talking about us buying a CDM, CB & backup RB as well this summer

He wouldn't be behind martial for a position down the middle. I think he would compete directly with Cavani.

Ole looks like has a clear view on what a striker should offer and seems to appreciate the Cavani/Ings/Kane mould (who wouldn't).

Martial will be given chances if he's staying but as a left forward I reckon.

Good player. But we have enough forwards.

Midfielder , defender , RW, keeper, striker.

That's our needs in order.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's a case of either

Kane & couple of cheap additions out of CB, DM, RW plus backup RB

Ings & Sancho, CB & budget CDM plus backup RB

James for 20m is totally realistic......i would make with you a $/£100 bet that this will be his transfer price......he can play as LW/RW + he is just 23 + his good performances for Wales (Probably at the Euros too) will help to sell him too.

Martial for 40m is actually a fair price (He is 25 and not 28) but i would even sell him for 30m.......i think the main problem is to find many suitors for him (Maybe Paris because Pochettino was always linked with him at Tottenham or maybe Tottenham if Kane leaves the club).

Lingard is just 28, was one of the best players in the PL in the last few months and back in the England team.....a top transfer boss would get 30m for him.

We will not get 20m for James for a start. We are rubbish at getting fees full stop.

If Haaland or Kane would be our first-choice striker then Ings wouldn't probably join us but he would get enough matches/minutes with Cavani.

We must first put him on the transfer list and then we will see :)
Don't get me wrong 90m for the 3 of them would be amazing - but how much would go back into the pot is another question - sorry for the negatives but nobody knows how we are run anymore from the outside.

Personally would be delighted with £75-£80m for them

This transfer plans are here on my paper :)

But of course i agree with you that "Nobody knows how we are run anymore from the outside" :(

Say we signed Sancho or equivalent, and one game Cavani is out. I would want Greenwood on the pitch instead of Ings. Don't care about position. Greenwood is too good to be held back, and Ings is nowhere near good enough to merit restricting Greenwood's game time. That's before even taking Martial or Rashford into consideration.

I quite like getting in decent squad players but would rather bring in someone who is versatile so they can play a couple positions depending on what the team needs at the time. Don't like squad players who can only fill one hole.

Anyway, from Ings pov think the best he could hope for would be a few starts and 20 minutes here and there. He's already done the squad player at a big club thing, he's flying high being the main man at a smaller club I just don't see the appeal for him to move to United and potentially lose that consistency. I mean I'd get it if he's a big United fan and is happy to have an Ighalo like role just to play for us, but its not logical. An Everton level club would suit him (not Everton specifically as they are well stocked). Maybe Leicester to replace Vardy but a year or two too early. West Ham might be an option, if they try to kic on, I assume they'd make him the main man and pay more than Southampton. In fact it would be a typical West Ham signing tbh.

Squad player signing. I don't see how he's better than Cavani and Martial. I think those two are Greenwood are fine for next year. Would rather focus even more on midfield and defense

Based on what I have seen, Martial is not a no. 9. Ings would be a far better option to rotate with Cavani.

He's not got the nose for goal that you'd ideally want from your number 9 but he was very good last season. Plus he's on huge money and has been playing that position for awhile now. I see him as one of our number 9 (and sometimes lw) options for a few years yet. Would be very hard to move on.

I also think martials on the ball technical ability compliments rotating with Cavani who has little of it. Ings and Cavani just seems more samey to me.

If people don't see the quality in Ings then they need to open their eyes.

Classic Ferguson PL special a la Yorke, Saha, Sheringham

I actually think that Martial should be kept on the left wing. He seems much more consistent than Rashford who is carrying an injury. Both of them can fight it out for that position. Ings provides cover for Cavani at Centre forward and hopefully Sancho fights with Greenwood for the right wing. In time, Greenwood will be our no. 9 if he learns from Cavani how to head the ball.

I would agree with you if there was a top drawer target in that area like I feel there is at CB (Varane) & RW (Sancho), know there has been talk of Rice but can't help feeling we could find some value in the European market if we looked hard enough

Yes indeed, didn’t you read the following text where I acknowledged that? It’s a shame that people are becoming less civilised and looking for reasons to get upset. Seriously who cares who any player played for before, it’s irrelevant.

Only way we're getting him is if Martial is sold and he will be a backup to whoever we are getting next year.

I'm not offended or upset mate. You seem to be though.

Would be very happy with him and an inexpensive signing. He's definitely ready for a step up and been improving his overall game at Southampton.

That's all fine in terms of how you rate him as that's your opinion but it doesn't reflect how much he would actually play if he arrived.

We know Solskjaer has said it will be years before Greenwood is ready to become a CF, we know Cavani struggles to play back to back games, we know Ings is a more natural #9 than Martial and has been outscoring him in recent seasons. Because of that, Ings would play a hell of a lot more than someone like Ighalo. Because Ings is good enough to be a starting striker for a PL team where Ighalo very much wasn't. Whether you personally would want him to play that much is neither here nor there in terms of whether he'd get gametime he'd be happy with.
