Danny Ings | Signs for Liverpool (lol)

The Express are awful. We had been linked about a month ago, but barely anything since then

There are quite a few sources who ran the link with United but yes probably nothing in it.
It's that time of the year for speculation and rumour.

From the club that could boast Rush, Fowler, Owen, Torres to now have Ings, Balloteli, Lambett and Borini.......If it was anyone else Id feel sorry for them.

Saw someone of Facebook who thought "he could be our very own Ingsaghi"

I'm glad we didn't sign him. Liverpool keep signing average players. So much quantity not much quality.

Ings and Milner are decent free signings for them, but at the same time, it's kind of cementing them outside the top 4 if they will be meant as starters/key players.

You wont be laughing when Danny "the next Pele" Ings slots 45 goals in all competitions next season.

I am confidently predicting a debut perfect double hat trick and then AT LEAST a 2 goal a game average.

Even when he isnt playing.

It's a bit like the Lambert signing. In theory there's a sense that its a low risk signing. However, as I said when they signed Lambert, teams shouldn't just buy players because they are cheap and low risk. They should sign players who will improve the first team significantly.

Ings is a signing that will only slightly improve their first team only by the virtue that their other strikers are really really crap.

Liverpool are once again signing mediocre players to fill up their squad. Must be underwhelming for the fans after such an underwhelming season.

On the face of it, it looks like a terrible signing. Realistically, he's an upgrade (considering how we play) on Aspas, Balotelli, Borini, & Lambert.

We need to shift that lot out, bring Ings & Origi in, and then go out to sign the best striker we can. If Ings is our only forward signing this season, then we might as well sign next years Europa League forms now.

Think you are understating his quality .. Messi and Ronnie got nothing on Merseyside's white Pele ..

If they plan on adding in another quality striker then I think it's a good acquisition. If they are not however, then they'll be in the same shit as last year.

Scunthorpe United i think they meant.

One of my scouse gloryhunter friends (the ones born in the 80s who picked the wrong team and have been kicking themselves ever since) just posted 'watch out Chelsea' on his FB account :D

Whilst Ings is no Suarez-esque game changer, I think that the derision on this thread are a bit OTT - he is only 22 and, to be fair, he's scoring a lot more PL goals per game than (say) Welbeck ever has (who is a couple of years older and has been playing for far better teams than Burnley). Not a bad price either and an upgrade on Lambert and Borini who are the sort of players he will be replacing.

He could potentially do Ok, I personally dont think liverpool are going to give him the service he needs.

To make the most of him you are going to have to change the style of play, and unless major surgery is conducted on the wings and and at fullback he is going to end up looking a little lost.

Ballotelli would look a million times better with the same thing, but there you go.

If he really is a gloryhunter he would have changed allegiances by now. Maybe the label casual fan would be far more apt.

I don't actually think this signing is that funny. Ings is a decent player and they've got him cheap, and he's young/English.

Certainly an upgrade on Balotelli and Lambert. Yes its not going to propel them back up to the standards of 2013/14 but its a squad signing who will do a decent job.

He's such a hard worker, he beats Balotelli in one category.

My thoughts exactly - at least on Ings. Milner isn't top level but he contributed a lot to a Villa side which finished higher than Liverpool last year and contributed a fair amount to a title challenger, so he does add something as a starter. Ings doesn't really but I think it's fair to assume he isn't intended to be a first XI player, and as a sub he offers some flexibility and something different to what they currently have.

On the face of it they look very uninspiring as their first signings. The big question they'll answer this summer is how big a gap is there between their intentions and the reality. If they follow up Ings with another Balotelli then Ings will be a lol-worthy signing, if they follow him up with someone like Lacazette then it'll look a lot more sensible.

To me it potentially smacks of a Borini/Aspas/Lambert deal. Buying a cheap striker who had a decent previous season to replace the cheap striker they bought last season who turned out to be a bit shit. The cheap deals look good on the surface, but when you're having to pay to replace them every year it starts to add up.

Oh for sure, Milner is a very solid player, but I don't think he'll be a difference maker for them if he's meant as a key player. As just another part of the starting 11 he'll improve them though. Those 2, alongside some genuine quality would be good signings, but I have a feeling that the level of player they will be getting is more along those lines again, strength in depth instead of having first team quality.

to be fair, he will probably do quite well. but its just so so sweet they cant sign any top players  cementing that 6th spot.

Our famous transfer committee is fecking useless. You don't have to be an expert to know what our problems are. We need a first choice striker to lead our attack, someone who's able to replace Sturridge when he's injured. What we didn't need waq ANOTHER striker who might or might not be good as a substitute. I like Ings but he ain't good enough to be first choice, simple as that. Sigh.

Say you get Higuian or someone, and then Sturridge barely gets injured next season. Would they play together or be rotated?

It's a low risk signing with his contract status and aged only 22, if it doesn't work at Liverpool there will be a lot suitors willing to offer decent money for him. It's better then signing 29 year old Milner on £150K a week wages who hasn't really played in central midfield for 5 years.

Probably true but it's only June.

Don't get me wrong, if Liverpool make 5 first choice signings in addition to Milner/Ings they'll be viewed as solid signings. However it's going to be difficult to move along Balotelli, Aspas, Borini & Lambert in order to accommodate Sturridge, A.N.Other, Ings & Origi. Balotelli particularly I can't see anyone coming in for, although a loan is possible.

I have a hunch that Liverpool will start the season with Sturridge, Ings, Balotelli & Origi as their first choice strikers.

I think Aspas is pretty much a done deal to Sevilla. I can see some clubs being interested in Lambert, Borini rumour has it might go to Italy, but yes shifting all 4 won't be an easy task.
However, I still think it's possible all will leave and another striker be brought in.

I'd pretty much always want to play a kid from the youth system instead of Lambert or Ings as a backup. Bring through the youth! There must be kids at the academy who can come and play 10 games a season which is what these two are going to do? Get the fans excited and all.

If I was Liverpool boss, I'd sell Sterling to United but want Hernandez in the deal. I don't know who's thinking what but I reckon sometimes you have to do things like that to ensure you always have quality players. I think it's a lack of imagination sometimes.

In isolation Ings and Milner are both decent signings, much better than most of their transfer work in the last 4 or 5 years, but if Liverpool want to get back into the top 4 I don't think signings like that are going to do it. Maybe if they buy some real quality too but the chances of that are slim.

The general sense of doom and gloom around Liverpool at the minute won't be lifted with signings like this.
