This has been denied. But I feel it would be a good move for us. We need to look at young players like this instead of going for ready made players and paying a fortune for them, only to be a failure.

The only other PL teams i've seen mentioned are Everton and Newcastle, and there was an article linking him to City for 7M from the Sun which seemed to be made up

It's very likely he'll come to us, especially if Giggs puts a word in his ear.

Well mr Smith you dont know shit do you. For Molde solskjær has found several gems. Gems that was sold out to Europe for good money. Thats one of the Things Norwegian clubs needs to be good at cause they need the money. United dont need stars now. United need players that Will be so proud to wear the United jersey that they Will give 130% in each game. Not overpayed lapdogs.

Mr Smith wasn’t criticising him, he was defending him.

I think he already has. He stalled on a new contract at Swansea apparently after Giggs watched him a few months back, if the posts on the Swansea forum I read are to be believed.

He's a Liverpool fan though.

Point is no one cares about the badge anymore. It's a thing of the past. Look at the best players at every club, even Messi forces new contracts yearly. We need players who are hungry for success and don't get complacent when they "make it". I personally like this signing, but more as a punt then as a "he's gonna save us!!!! he's young and loves the badge!!!". We sign so many players who care about marketing and it's time to sign players who care about success.

As i se it Ferguson almost got fired in United at the start. But he had a plan and it worked out. Ofcourse he had luck with the golden generation with Becks, Giggs and the gang. I generally belive that getting several English, Irish and such players that knows how Lucky and how big it is to wear the Manchester United jersey in their early twenties is the way to go.

Its to many mercenaries compared to English players in United now were the paycheck means more than what they do on the field. And i belive that half of the teams in the championship league would do well in the bundesleague cause it really just is 3-4 teams with a good level. So id rather pay 10-15 mill for this dude than 150mill for Sancho.

Yes Solskjaer has "only" won titles in Norway. And he have "only" gotten through the group stage in the Europa league with tiny Molde but atleast he knows what you need to do to win cause winning any league is hard nomatter wich country it is except Scotland were Celtic is to supreme.

If Solskjaer gets time to build a squad with players like this then you get a solid fundament and thats when you can top it off with players like Pogba, Ronaldo etc. People that think United can compete with City next season should just go to bed and stay there. Its going to take atleast 2 summer and 2 winter Windows to clean the house and change the mentality.

So what is it about the kid that impresses you besides his pace that has been mentioned to death already?

Fair point. Im not trying to sound harsh but the numbers are not earth shattering all the same, he's played almost 28 full matches. Im just skeptical about these types of signings but im good with it considering there's little risk involved.

Vardy is the quintessential late bloomer, his two seasons in the championship weren't as impressive as his time in the conference and he peaked in that title winning season. He's an established top flight player of course now.

Im not asking for so called galacticos, ive seen links to Dybala and I think he'd be misfit. Adding Van Dijk to this list is a reach don't you think? Ive already stated that im ok with this signing (if it comes to fruition). However im skeptical because United have had no success in the past with signings like this. Remember Powell? Im not getting excited especially as Swansea fans were just saying the kid looked like a league 2 player just not long ago (off one of their forums and I posted some quotes).

On top of that he seems one dimensional, nothing but speed, we've been down this route before with players like David Bellion, and we also had the likes of Obertan and Bebe under Fergie who never impressed. Most of the players you mentioned were established in those lower leagues or were rare young talents who made their professional debuts at age 17-18 like Walcott and Gray to be my recollection. Brooks was a Man City youth prodigy. Apparently Everton, Leeds and Newcastle are the other clubs interested.

Yeah i get that. However, Powell made 4 appearances for us. We signed him then loaned him to lower level teams, we didn't develop him. And i seem to recall SAF saying they scouted a different player and were told it was bebe but it wasn't? Obertan was awful yes.

I guess on a more approach styled note, i think we do need to go for less known names. For example, we have been linked with the likes of rice and wan bissaka, and the likes of meunier (now PSG’s spare right back who is 28 in september). I just want to see a more long term plan and some hungry young talent rather than more stop gaps who wil need moving on in two years

It's not just about being young though. Older players can be hungry too, especially those with the right mentality or with something to prove. As much as I would like the whole team to be below 25 years old, I think there is still a need to have experience running through the team to help the team push on when faced with challenges.

Queiroz had people watch Bebe in Portugal and urged Fergie to sign him before he was snatched up by another club. Fergie admitted to not watching him before approving the transfer. I don't recall anything about the wrong player being scouted and confused for Bebe. Some Swansea fan who claims to be ITK posted that James will be loaned back to them for a season. We shall find out

From what i can gather, he seems to of improved leaps and bounds over the second half of the season, handled the step up to international football very well, has speed thats on another level and is on a prettty good upward trajectory . The Overmars comparison is a good one, he wasnt a winger full of tricks and silky skills, he had elite speed and knew when and where to use it best, he was a cracking player. Im not saying he's going to be Marc Overmars, but with speed like that you can be a more effective player than other players with more refinement to there game.

I see no downside to this transfer atall.

It isn't entirely true. He was well known in football circles as he was an England youth player for 3 years before he joined Spurs.
Anyone claiming Dele Alli was some big starlet before he left MK Dons for Spurs is not telling the truth
I also don't count being known in football circles as being well known.

Dortmund have numerous times. There's no indication the move is on. There's three parties involved in a transfer and this move would only really make sense for us at this point.
True, but it doesnt mean its a no go and we might go for him again next year. If James is bought its a ''project'' for the future that might even help us right now.

Jesus. State of this post.

We’ve signed players from lower leagues before and they’ve worked out well.

You can’t just go out and buy the galactico big names all the time.

So you think this is the sort of signing we should be making in the position we’re in? If we’re going to going to sign young players at least make sure they’re good

Probably the best video out there at the moment demonstrating how devastating his pace is. He has Mbappe & prime Bale acceleration and speed

Wow.

It's not just the pace that impresses me here. It's his touch when he's going at full pelt.

There’s far more to it than that. He was signed by some club for £300k, and 5 weeks later we bought him for £7.4m from that club, who Bebe never played a competitive game for, just a handful of pre-season games. It’s true Fergie never saw him play, but the whole deal was to funnel money to his agent - Jorge Mendes! Who only became Bebe’s agent a week before being transferred to Utd. Mendes received around £3m of the £7.4m fee!!

Shadiest thing we've ever been involved in. We were tickling Mendes's ball for future favour, its pretty obvious.

looks like a kick-and-run bandit from the videos i've watched

hopefully turns a decent player if he comes here

Swansea fans want them to become our feeder club:

Called this weeks ago after Giggs was in the crowd - makes all sorts of sense for DJ/Giggs/Wales and SCFC. Giggs will have a direct influence on how he is developed at Man Utd for Wales' benefit. Ensure we get the right deal including loans (inc other players), % sell on clauses etc. and it's win-win. This will enable GP to establish a good relationship with Man Utd too. Mr Birch will of course be all over this one like a rash - balance the books, make the club saleable and let's get some REAL investors in eh

Redcafe is fun.

“We need to start signing these types of players before other clubs sign them up and he’s worth double the price a couple of years later”

United make a bid...

“Why the feck are we going for these players and not the players that are now worth quadruple the price?!?”
Spot on.

Even a non United fan can see this. This forum is hilarious.

He's a left winger but doesn't seem like a hug-the-line type. I wonder if this means the end of Martial. It would make sense if you take Ole at his word when he said that some players had played their last game for United.

Robertson 8 million from Hull
Arnold came up through youths.

If the scouts do their job, there are young players from the lower divisions who can be turned into stars. Why do fans always want ready made players when most have failed here.

Nothing wrong with kick and run if you can run faster than anyone.

His touch looks excellent too.
This...totally. Pace alone may sound unimpressive but used in the right way can be a devastating weapon. One can only hope he's coachable, and that the coaches are good enough to utilise his best assets in the team's play.

Robertson played PL. Joe Gomez was 18 and Trent the same.

This guy is one year younger than Martial making his breakthrough playing as good as Balosie did at Villa.

There is nothing to be excited about except hope and we all know how the saying goes.
