Yes I know but that goes for most players but do you not agree we have more concerning areas which need strengthening? Blind is a good player don't get me wrong but not needed at the moment.
Blind is a very versatile player that would be great for the squad, would be a good buy! But yeah I completely agree - left back is one of the positions least needing attention now.

Don't get me wrong by the way, I think Shaw will be great and I rate him very highly. I was just making a point that Van Gaal won't consider price tags when choosing a starting 11!

'La Liga would suit my style of play. Perhaps England as well, but that's a very physical competition and that's not my biggest strength. I have made steps forward physically, but fighting out personal duels is not my thing. I am not like Jan Vertonghen, who is very powerful."

I agree with him in what he says about his physicality isn't his biggest strength, his footballing intelligence is, and that will be pivotal in any league. He can make up for his lack of pace or strength or ball skills with great awareness, positioning and ball rentention.

Doesn't sound like a quote from someone that's nailed on to come to Utd though, don't you think?

The good thing about Blind is that he can cover for Shaw. I can also see him playing in a midfield 3 of Blind, Herrera and Mata if Carrick is unfit or as a long term replacement for Carrick. At a pinch in case of injuries and/or suspensions he can also play as a left sided central defender. This is where he played for all the Ajax junior teams.

Would he be happy being a back up for left back and centre mid though? He will probably want game time. Could work though, as I said I'd be very happy if we brought him in.

With the amount of games we play even with Europe ( and we have no winter break so Christams New Year and Easter are always hectic) and the fact that Carrick is getting older and more susceptible to injuries and I believe we have more League cup games as we are not in Europe ( not sure about thius) and that Shaw is a teenager and will have ups and down, he will get more tahn enough game time.

Here is Blind's performance against Colombia last year. He is up against Cuadrado, they could soon be teammates..

Agree with a this. Could definitely see him as a long term successor to Carrick.

If we were interested we would have signed him by now. Or at least have some solid sources claiming our interest.

He's a very good back up for and future successor to Carrick, very similar in style.
He was the best player in the Dutch league as a holding midfielder. I read he does a similar job to that of Busquets, just that Bisquets is a fair bit taller.

Where would he play?

A left sided CB probably. And cover for Shaw at wingback or left back. Decent squad addition but I'm not sure he's top class. I think we wanted Vermaelen and this is the back up option, things will move quick on this now I reckon.

I could see him playing as a DM in 433 but dropping really deep between the centre backs making a 343 when we don't have the ball.

Didn't your manager say the tour would be where he would observe what he's got to work with, then decide on transfers.

Been a while for the tour having been over now and he said before the last game that he had decided on players futures etc..in the existing squad.

Going off quotes we haven't made a move yet for him and this shouldn't be the toughest deals to do when we do. He wants to come, shouldn't have tricky wage demands and doesn't seem a extortionate transfer fee or any big competition for him.

I think James, Young doing well at LWB might have put a end to interest in him. He's not really a CB (Though can do a job there) and LVG preferred others over him in midfield.

To be fair, he has very little experience in that centre-back role, his best position is by far left back which we have sorted at the moment.

The theory is that Blind is actually a back-up plan if Vermaelen fell through - which it has - so it's now ON!

Vermaelen is actually a CB though.

Blind has never really played there for a prolonged period. Only a makeshift option.

His best position is CM actually where he has been very good in the dutch league last 2 seasons and won the POTS last one. Though, He did well at LWB too and different sorts of role for the Dutch national team.

He's been playing left back for Ajax for the last year, he has little experience at CB so I doubt he would play there.
Actually he started as a LB but was pretty awful apparently Ajax fans started booing him but was moved into midfield and went on to be their best player.

Ya you're right got the two mixed up. I take it he will be used in midfield and as a back up to Shaw if we do end up buying him.

That's what I'd sign him for. Not first choice but a reliable back up who can cover more than one positions.

Would take him..

Would provide cover for the left side and centre midfield..

What I don't get it why the talk of him as a centre half? Has he even played there before.
He slotted in there nicely for the Dutch a few times during the world cup. Wouldn't trust him as one of the two CB's in a back four, but his experience as a left back and deep lying midfielder means he's ideally equipped to playing the left side of a back three - especially with LVG in charge, a coach who knows him well and specializes in developing payers in different positions.

You're right in saying this should be an easy deal to complete if van Gaal wants him. Maybe those leaving has been told behind closed doors. If he came to United he'll play the role Fletcher has been playing through pre season.

I don't really see the need of him when we have just spent £30 million on our new LB/LWB, we have Young as cover who looks to be moulding into the role well from seeing him in pre-season, and Reece James who is part of a promising bunch of United academy players coming through.
