Cycling 2017

Jesus, didnt expect Froome to basically say it's great for Sky that Landa was a real threat for the overall. This is going to be juicy. If Froome wins the overall, Landa won't ride for Froome again, if Froome has any say in it !!

As a very new fan, bit struggling with what you're saying there, what's the dynamic there in teams? And why would Froome be so pissed about Landa? Was he supposed to slow down Contador/Quintana?

Froome's the designated team leader. They're all supposed to ride for him, unless they agreed that he was in a compromised position eg in bad form, injured, going backwards in GC etc and therefore wanted to have 'insurance' by allowing Landa to ride for himself.

The Sky team would have been carefully picked for one goal only, to support Froome's (and Sky's) attempt on GC. Other teams may have co - leadership but for Sky in the Tour, this is not their usual modus operandi.

I only saw the last 50km today, but it didn't seem Froome had a problem so im extremely surprised Landa was ' allowed' to go up the road and basically eat into Froome's advantage. Often teams send a rider up the riad, ahead of their leader so that when the leader attacks he has a teammate up the road to ride with him to the finisjh. If the leader isn't able to attack and catch up then the rider usually drops back to help.

Cheers for that. It'll take a while for me to get all the nuances about cycling.

Plus many others, more obvious things! :)

Just my initial reaction. Could have got the wrong end of the stick. Just posed the question on Reddit and many seem to think that Landa was sent up the road to make him a threat for the overall - which would make the others (Aru et al.) have to respond to Landa's attacks, expending energy, when in fact he is acting as a foil for Froome.

For sure it's a big thing to go against the team plan, if that's what Landa did, so he could well be riding tactically, for Froome. Well see, but I need to watch the highlights. All good fun!!

Landa's going to Movistar. No incentive for him to ride for Froome

I don't really know what to make of it either yet, but it creates a lot more interesting race scenarios, that's for sure.

Absolutely. Froomey's usually all full of praise for his doms after a stage but he didn't look like a happy bunny after today. Plus the DS was said to be having a go at Landa after yesterday's finish.

Don't think Landa will disrespect the pecking order. Yesterday's finish was brutal and very steep, it's difficult to slow down your pace at those kind of percentages and not really that useful to stay with your team leader. I think today was a tactical move to put pressure on Astana and other teams. Landa being where he is in the GC doesn't hurt or harm Froome and might even come in handy if Froome proves to be not good enough in the final week.

True. It also does not help that the way Froome rides makes him look like he's about to rack all the time. The dude is talented, but he rides ugly.

Terrible positioning by Aru. If he was just exhausted he has an excuse, otherwise this is a monumental feck up. To lose that much time in this type of stage with everything still together at 1 km from the finish. He had one job, to stay on Froome's wheel.

You'd think Astana would have looked that finish and thought just be around the front of the Peleton going into the last few km......but no.

He was isolated at 5km, and the speed at which the Peleton was going he was never going to make it to the front where Froome was. It pays to have world class riders like Kwiatkowski riding as doms!
While he is without a squad!

Looks more interesting than yesterday.

The finish looks tasty, being very up and down. I imagine if you get dropped on the Peyra Taillade, it would be difficult to get back on with Saint-Vidal following the descent.
