Cucurella at Chelsea

I don't understand how Spanish teams are so bad at selling their players.

Cucurella at Barcelona was worth £7 million and was sold to Getafe. 2-3 years afterwards and one good season at the Premier League with Brighton, he's worth £60 million. Now at Chelsea is that British press find out he's overpriced.

I don't really watch Chelsea closely enough or often enough to have a truly informed opinion on him, but from what I have seen he's been shocking. What do the Chelsea fans on here make of him?

I don’t think he’s a bad player in general but he’s been one of the worst players on the pitch almost every game he’s played. We should cut our losses and sell him asap to make space for Maatsen.

Played 10 games as a cb for Brighton last season. Brighton won 4 of them - against us 4:0, Arsenal 2:1, Wolves 3:0 and Spurs 1:0. Drew 4 and Lost 2 (City 3:0 & Villa 2:0)

His best game by a country mile for us was at CB too.

Well, when Barca and Madrid starve the rest of the league of money it would be difficult for them to also demand huge fees for their players.

The reason Brighton can say no to £40m from Premier League champions City and hold out for £60m for their player is because the wealth is spread out - which is good.

He's not a bad player, he's just really average.

Only until you get to around the middle of the Championship then the gap is enormous.

Interesting, thanks. There are a lot of players that have looked awful in their first season but improved greatly in their second. I remember people on here saying Lindelof was one of the worst players to ever wear the shirt in his first season here. Do you think there's a case for him needing a season to adjust?

Has there been any ex Brighton players that have shone outside Brighton yet?

I somehow thought he was quite quick, but he got absolutely burned for Chilwells red card.

I'm not sure if Chelsea got wrong most of their signings or if theyre just playing really bad because of the atmosphere at the club.

If they were to sell all the players they bought in the last two windows I don't think they wouldn't even get half of what they paid. Specially the most expensive signings have looked underwhelming. Enzo, Mudryk, Cucurella, Fofana. No one is living up to their pricetag.

People said the same when were sitting in 9th place with Lampard, but then Tuchel came in and immediately improved almost the entire team and elevated the performances. A good coach with clear ideas who can provide structure and leadership can whip these players into shape. It just has to be the right coach.

Biggest drop off in a player after a move since Chelsea bought Torres from Pool. Must be something in the water there.

Some wild takes on here whenever any player seems to be linked with City or goes for big money.

Said when they signed him that I didn’t see a player in him, let alone a player worth £60m or whatever it was, and I maintain that. He’s done absolutely nothing to earn that move to Chelsea, he wouldn’t even get in the Brighton team now.

Definitely was never a 60 million player, but hey, let Chelsea pay whatever they want.

City bid around £38 million for him but walked away when Brighton demanded £60 million. Chelsea were the only club stupid enough to pay that amount for him.

That's the issue. I don't think any player will shine in what's left of the season.

We'll see what's about with them with the new coach next season. If they still suck after that then it's time to worry. I wouldn't judge them just now they're clearly unmotivated and with the moral hitting deep low.

They bought overpriced average players, apart from enzo

You don't think Enzo was overpriced?
Probably, but all in all he's been fantastic so far despite what's been going on around him infact that probably makes his performances even more impressive.

The critisism is maybe we should have had the foresight to get him for River but when players of his level become avaliable and want to join you (especially when you're not named Real or Barca) you do what is nessesery.

Fantastic is a stretch. Casemiro has been fantastic. Enzo has been decent.

He's shit. Good at provoking cards and fouls though it seems. Must be the hair.

You joke, but it actually is the hair. Players with big hair are always rated highly for some reason. Look at players like David Luiz and Chong

Even if he has played a bit of CB I always thought of Cucurella as an attacking FB or wing back. He was being lauded for his crossing not his defending. Seems to be being misused.

His rise was too quick to get a good baseline of what his level was. Seemed to rise very quickly from a medium Spanish side, to a medium PL side, to a top level club even though he was not actually very young.

Can't play him CB though, that's not going to help, I don't care if it's 3 at the back. You still need some physical ability to compete in that position.

I thought Brighton converted him from a winger to a wing back initially. Then he was a left back and now he's in a back 3. Seems like a lot of messing about
