I wouldn't have minded getting him from Brighton, but the Chelsea version is a no thanks from me.

He was good at Brighton, made a small step up to mid table Chelsea and struggled hugely so he'd be even worse at an actual big club like Utd.

He’s only a figure of fun because Chelsea utterly overpaid for him in their now standard, Apprentice-candidate-trying-to-buy-a-crate-of-smoked-mackerel-in-a-seaside-town way. He’s a bloody good player and if we got anything like the Brighton version, he’d be a decent signing to cover for Shaw.
So a loan with an option should suit both parties
