Love that interview

Also the way Paddy asks that question  Almost sounds surprised he hasn't already come back!

Don't want him back. Egomaniac who is perfectly suited to Real. Thanks for the memories 'n all but you decided to move on, and so should we.

This. We made him a great player and he chose to give his peak years to another club.

I don't know how popular or unpopular this opinion is but I do agree. Despite his ridiculous goal records and the insane numbers he churns out, he's far too much of an individualist and would cause more problems than solve in this imbalanced, top-heavy squad. Not that this will ever happen, though.

I hope Sparky, as the ambassedor of Ronaldo Day, has some big plans for us this year?

Good interview. He seems like a down to earth, personable guy in his interviews which is far different from how he's portrayed by his naysayers.

Good interview. He speaks about that never close the door line right at the end.

As much as people often dislike him, as a united fan, I simply cannot. Played at a standard I might not see from a united player for decades, and has always spoken of the club in such a brilliant fashion after leaving. He became a bit of a brat during his transfer sagas but I can look past that.

When would madrid contemplate selling him? he wont last forever and sooner or later surely they would want to build around bale/hames/isco? or some new pony

Ronnie says "in the future you never know" about absolutely every club anyone asks him about going to eventually. It just so happens he's asked about United 4 or 5 times a year.

Wait, are people taking the interview seriously? He will never return to Manchester United, but we love the flirting nonetheless.

He's spending a lot of time trying to enhance his image in the USA at the moment. He is 30 next year so I think he will see out his contract at Madrid and then go and play in the MLS to finish off his career.

He's brilliant at keeping doors open thats for sure. Clever lad is Ronnie.

It must become such a tedious question. Plus he genuinely doesn't know, unless he's actively trying to engineer a transfer now, why would he? He'd give the same answer if Coventry asked him.

It's just a straight forward diplomatic answer.

I remember a few years ago a catalan journalist asked him if he would ever go from madrid to play for barca and he said pretty much the same as he always said like you mentioned "in the future you never know". He just seems to want everybody to like him. I guess he also just wants to be polite, rather than saying "I will never play for your club". After he made those comments he was booed by Madrid fans while watching a tennis match so safe to say that did not go down well. I personally never took the comment seriously and I don't understand why everyone takes what managers and players say literally. They normally have and agenda or reason for making the comments at the time or sometimes it is a way to dodge answering a question controversially.

And at a club where everyone already does, which is obviously close to his heart anyway, he's going to be even more inclined to say stuff that keeps them onside. There's genuinely nothing to take from it. Even at face value it's completely innocuous.

Considering his career path so far has almost identically mirrored Beckham's, on and off the field, I'd be surprised if he didn't move to America in his mid 30s.

Last summer was the time, but only if Fergie had stayed. The idea that he'd have come and played for Moyes is hilarious.

At 29, it's best he stays at Madrid for another 3-4 years, then gets a monster contract at wherever the emerging money country is at that time.

I would be surprised if he never played in the mls. At the end of his career it would be a great place to play, especially for a big star like him. I remember as far back as when he was at united him saying he wanted to play there. I remember he also said that when he retires he wants to be an actor. He has had plenty of practice for it both on and off the field (with his many misleading "only god knows" interviews) over the years, that is for sure.

The only thing stopping it would be his continued drive to be "the best in the World" and his rivalry with Messi. Beckham was perfectly comfortable with his achievements to essentially go into LA retirement. Ronaldo has certainly achieved more than enough to merit that, but I think as long as there are players capable of usurping his status, he'll want to stay in the big leagues and fight for that crown. Such is his vanity.

On the flip side though, when that inevitably happens, I don't think he'd ever want to take a step down. And there's nowhere to go but down from United & Real Madrid in Europe. Italian football's not what it was and I don't see him liking being part of an ensemble at Bayern. The MLS is seen as such a separate entity to the European leagues, it works as a sort of side step exercise, where you can continue playing but without sullying yourself (you know what I mean) with the association of a drop down in European quality. To a Galatasaray or something. Henry & Beckham were sort of quasi-seen as "retiring at the top" from proper football. When in fact they both continued to play for ages under the guise of some kind of new pioneering adventure. Henry's been playing for NY Redbulls for longer than he played for Barca, but no-one in Europe really even thinks about it. He's still Arsenal & Barca's Thierry Henry.

I've pretty much always felt that one day he'll go back to United to finish his career. He really loves United more than he ever loved Madrid I think. For now though, you'll have to make do with the odd goal he scores against your lot. Like the hattrick he'll score later. ;)

I don't think he'll ever play for United again if he sees out his Madrid contract. I can't imagine us paying those kind of wages for a 30+yo even if it is Ronaldo. I think he'll probably go to the MLS and develop his brand there.

He won't finish his contract though, he'll leave with one or two years on it so we can catch a few bucks for the old bastard.

You think so? He'd surely remain worthful to you as an old bastard, even as a marketing tool.

Yooo!

Imagine this. Ronaldo moves to New York City. Owned by City. His wife lives in NY apparently, so would be an ideal move. He would have the Beckham effect, both good players who've won everything there is too win. Both made there name here as well.

Then as part of the City deal, he'll play for Manchester City temporarily . That I can see happening in a few years.

He's a class act. People see how he is on the field, and think that is how he is as a person - despite all his former teammates only having good things to say about him.

He mentioned that he built good relationships with not just the players but also the staff - have read a few other interviews with staff from MUFC and MUML about how friendly he was with everyone he came into contact with.

The only time I met him was at Nike. There were loads of people there with things for him to sign. When it was time to leave, his managers/pr person was trying to get him to leave, but he stayed there until everyone he had signed/posed for pics with everyone. Simple thing really, but a genuine class act.

He's long been ruled out tonight son.

This is the sentient I disagree with. Players make themselves managers just give them a platform on which to do it. Ronaldo made himself.

When you actually watch the interviews of both LVG and Ronaldo, like I did last night on MUTV, then you realise what shit stirrers Sky Sports are.

Headlines:

'Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo refuses to rule out return to Manchester United'
'Louis Van Gaal is content with his Squad'

I mean what the feck? If you watch the interviews you will realise what misleading headlines these both are.

Tabloids make their money doing similar.

I saw one heading on football365 saying Henderson "praises best ever" in Gerrard. And thought it was a joke. But no, Henderson's actual quote says Gerrard is probably the best English player ever.

Incredible.

How is it mis-leading? LvG is content so far, he'll wait and assess the current crop. While Ronnie was just being polite.
