Ronaldo. I know it seems silly, but there is a lot of smoke, and Madrid going this hard after Bale could be read as counter to losing Ronaldo.

Do you reckon they watched a few videos of Gareth Bale taking free kicks and thought he was the perfect replacement?

No, I reckon they saw him as a big name who would be able to replace Ronaldo on various levels.

The scale of depression we all will feel when Madrid end the window with both of them will be ridiculous.

Am I reading too much into the fact it's £93m with Spurs signing Coentrao separately, rather than £78m plus Coentrao? It's almost like Madrid went out of their way to break the Ronaldo record, showing that Bale is now the main man.

They are very similar players but like all great players are perfectly capable of playing in the same team. Madrid may went them both to compete with Messi and Neymar.

That message won't be lost on Cristiano; nor will the massive outlay on Bale.

I thought about that too. But I assumed it was Spurs driving the hard bargain and wanting to sell a player for a world record fee.

:lol::lol:

I am actually starting to believe this might just happen.

Top, you are starting to come around to the idea

Can't be arsed finding it, but it was just a series of pictures of the two of them in similar poses etc, basically saying 'look how alike they are'.

And these things sell papers. It's like the stupid have taken over the world and the clever are being edged out.

Ronaldo will be wondering why that £90,000,000 isn't going towards his increased wage demands. Trouble at the circus.

Not long after Bale arrives Ronaldo will get his new deal making him the best paid player in the world and all will be well with the world again.

£78m plus Contreao is also a world record, unless people value the lb at less than £2m.

A £90m transfer fee for Bale would make Ronaldo sad

Why? Because he'll no longer be the record transfer? I know he needs his ego stroked but surely as a Madrid fan he'd have known they would've broken the record fee a couple of times during his time there.

My heart is saying that Bale to Madrid will release Ronnie to come home, but my gut is saying both will stay to compete with Barca.

Not me, if this does not happen I will be here, all season, demanding that you all stay optimistic for next summer.

As long as the transfer window isnt shut I'm going to convince myself that Bale -> Real means Ronnie->back home.

Why on earth would Real sell Ronaldo? They need him and Bale if they want to win that league again.

Two years left on his contract with no indication he's going to sign one any time soon, spent most of last year pissed off, fell out with Perez, wants crazy wages to sign again. etc etc

Real Madrid want to improve their first team. Replacing Ronaldo with Bale weakens their team, so on what logic do you guys think we're gonna get Ronaldo off them?

Well, we would only get Ronaldo if he wants out. Signing Bale would then be his replacement. Long shot though.
