Ronaldo coming back, signing Fabregas and letting Rooney go to Mourinho or whoever trumps keeping Rooney and signing no one, or even some Everton players. Still can't help but think that Ronaldo coming back is like when you go back to a car you had in the past or fancy getting one again, its the memories more than anything, nostalgia, and it won't be quite as good again.

Can't see us spending £80m on him though, if not why weren't we in for Bale. We just don't have that kind of Seria A of the 90's or Madrid/Barca/Bayern kind of transfer power. We aren't even top dog in our own league in that regard!!

That analogy would work if the car actually improved its performance after you originally sold it.

133 goals in 112 appearances for Madrid

As clear a match winner as there can be

Since leaving, he has always spoken of the club and SAF with great respect

I don't fathom how anyone would seriously not be happy if we'd sign him back. I mean, would you be unhappy if we'd sign him? Would you think "damn, all that money spent on him, we should have done xyz"?

Would be quite romantic IMV, that and having the 2nd best player in the world in our team.

My countryman and favourite player growing up, I'd be content..

I am also a believer that Ronaldo shouldn't come back to Old Trafford too. He had his time and it was a successful period for him. However, Manchester United continues to evolve and we should be looking to the future and not looking back at the past. There will be a time when we will have to make do without Ronaldo so, why not now, it is a good time as any. We managed to lose the league to City by goal difference and the bottling of QPR, and we managed to win the premier league the next with a very large number of victories, almost a record I believe in the Premier league so, let us just continue.

We've done it in the past in bringing back Hughes. You'd be mad to not want the boy wonder back. He's been tearing it up over there and he'd rip it up over here again. We'd rape the fecking league and it would boost our chances in Europe.

There isn't a player in the world I'd rather sign. I'd love to see him come back, win another CL with us and cement his status as an Old Trafford legend.

They would soon get over it if he scores 40% of our goals which helps us to retain the title.

I don't get it either, a team never evolves to the point where they wouldn't take probably the 2nd best player in the world. There will be a time when we won't be able to rely on Van Persie and when Carrick isn't as influential in midfield but that day hasn't come yet and so those players are integral to us now and going forward. If we had the chance to get Ronaldo (which I don't think we do currently) then it would be odd if we didn't pursue because he's such a good player, he's only 28 and he wouldn't infringe on others development but he'd guarantee us an outstanding contribution for years and time to let the younger players mature.

I think we shouldn't replicate the past too much. Moyes stepping in is an attempt to find another Fergie with the same mentality & characteristics

Going for Ronaldo again, for all his quality, would be another step back in the past which hardly guarantees the success we had then

Mourinho dropping shots left, right and centre makes me wonder if he knows we're in for him.

He's only ever spoke well about us and obviously achieved some incredible things here, I'd take him back in a heartbeat. Incredible player, perhaps one of the best to ever play the game, if we can somehow sign him then it will be a memorable day for Manchester United.

It's not the best of long term solutions but a team with RVP and Ronaldo in it would be pure filth for one (injury-free) season at least...

Oh hang on, I just remembered we're not actually signing Ronaldo. Damn, it was getting fun writing that.

I like you and all, but that's a big pile of shite, and throwing things that have nothing to do with the discussion into the mix. We lost the title then won it so that means Ronaldo shouldn't come back? Yeah, that's clear.

I am not here to be liked or to be a celebrity mate, I am here to express my opinion. I am not going to be a sheep like others and say that Ronaldo needs to come back. He had his time here, he left us and he must stay at Real Madrid. Personally, I hope he has a lot of success with them in the near future, why can't you wish him the same or are you that bitter because he left us?

But you are a celebrity, your story to get to the mains is something that will be spoken about for generations.

Has ANY United supporter ever suggested he'd be unhappy is Ronaldo came back?
I really hated the way Ronaldo behaved in the summer of 08 with all his cranky bs so I really don't care if he returns or he doesn't.

I wasn't happy with how he left either to be frank but anyone can make a mistake. Lots of people said at the time, it was a mistake because we were stronger then Madrid but if he did come back, he'd do alright :) I'm not sure he'd get 60/70 goals a season though

The irony is fantastic.

Yeah I kind of expected this sort of response but unlike Rooney, Ronaldo couldn't shut up all of that summer. He'd whine about leaving to papers, agree with Blatter on the slavery comments and keep doing his "Only God knows the future" nonsense all summer. In comparison, Rooney's been a saint.

You turn into an awfully deluded poster when it comes to Rooney.

Well Rooney's just kept quiet all summer. Sure maybe he could have come out and clarified his stance on the situation but unlike Ronaldo, he hasn't gone crying to every media outlet all summer either.

Anyway, I think this debate will just derail the thread so we'll take it to the Rooney one.

Oh this again.

No he's just been even worse and got his agent and PR team to do all the dirty work for him. How can you not see it?

He has people who do that for him.
