Cristiano Ronaldo

Mourinho's comments about Ronaldo were odd and random and it got me thinking..

Back in march he said:

"He is the best. The best in the world, yes. Probably the best ever. I saw Maradona a couple of times. I never saw Pele. But Cristiano is amazing. This man is the best. But even he can't win it on his own. The key is the team and the team needs balance and people doing different tasks. At this level, if somebody fails, we have no chance.
We never say Cristiano is responsible when we lose a match and we can't think he is the only one who wins it. Without the team he is nothing but the team without him is not the same."

Now all on a sudden he's a stubborn know-it-all who thought he knew better than his coach on how to improve further.

What happened in three months?!

My inner muppet might be taking over here (due to a lack of the Caf for 24hrs!) but it almost seems like a thinly veiled message to put someone off him. Who? Moyes? Like don't sign him his ego has gotten so big that he doesn't listen?

I don't think Mourinho says anything in this way without an agenda. Does he know we're in for him and he's trying yo scupper it or an I'm getting carried away?

Or he could've been just keeping his superstar sweet while they were still in the Champions League. Now that's he gone he'll say what he really thinks of him.

I'm a harsh critic of Mourinho's but, to be fair to him, he did clarify his comments today & refuted the idea that Ronaldo was to blame for any of Real's failures.

United still pursuing Ronaldo deal

Manchester United are refusing to give up on the return of Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, and have assigned significant extra resources to try to make the move happen.

The club have already been working intensively on the deal since January, having received indication at that point that the Real Madrid forward was open to heading back to Old Trafford.

The events of the past month have complicated the issue, however, with Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement causing Ronaldo to reconsider his options and Madrid now determined to tie the player to a new contract at all cost.

President Florentino Perez would see it as a particularly unwanted blow to the club’s prestige to lose both Jose Mourinho and Ronaldo in the same summer, regardless of the purchase of anyone like Gareth Bale or Luis Suarez, and indeed has claimed the Portuguese will retire at the Bernabeu.

United sources have made it known to ESPN that, to counter that, they have detailed two officials to exclusively work on bringing Ronaldo back. It also understood that, having initially bristled at getting involved, Nike is now willing to join fellow sponsors Chevrolet.

The Glazer family want at least one statement signing, or a few purchases of note, to accompany the official unveiling of David Moyes at the start of July.

The club are also keeping their options open in midfield, where they are specifically targeting significant reinforcements. Although there have been no firm rejections in approaches for Barcelona duo Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara, there have been no changes either.

United are seeking to push ahead with a deal for PSV Eindhoven’s Kevin Strootman, especially having been made aware of Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in the midfielder. Contrary to reports, however, no terms have been agreed.

yep. i hear almost nothing about immigants on espn.

Quality player Mourinho i'm sure would take him if he could but when he sets the bar for himself so high it is no surprise for the manager to still want more from him I doubt it is his goals he is on the edge of games sometimes when you would want him to play a bigger role.. I feel Ronaldo may be happy just scoring these all these goals. He lacks in certain areas and it shows against the better teams.

The Spaniards don't agree, they're reporting he's going to sign a new contract.

I think his fight with Madrid is about image rights, Madrid owes 40% of his image and Messi and Neymar have 100% of their image rights. I'm guessing from the 9th place he would jump to the 4th or 5th place on Forbes lists.

From Marca (Forbes)

1. Tiger Woods 59,5 millones de euros
2. Roger Federer 54,4
3. Kobe Bryant 47,1
4. LeBron James 45,5
5. Drew Brees 38,8
6. Aaron Rodgers 37,3
7. Phil Mickelson 37,1
8. David Beckham 35,9
9. Cristiano Ronaldo 33,5
10. Lionel Messi 31,4
..............................
68. Neymar 15,6

Is there any jizz worthy Ronaldo to United content to wank to today?

You don't have to reply anytime I post about Ronaldo he can defend himself with his play. It's my opinion you have yours and I respect that we are both on opposite side of this, so we don't need to discuss it among ourselves. We are discussing Mourinho's comments about Ronaldo and I was giving my opinion. Where have I started any debate or even quoted anybody to engage them I am giving my opinion on a forum is that a crime?

I'm just waiting for the day you don't write about Ronaldo not being more than just goals. Your opinion is allowed, no crime in that at all. It's when your opinion is rehashed every time about the same single point is when it gets tedious. But go on, write about how he doesn't perform in big games or contribute nothing but goals, I'm none the better for it.

I haven't mentioned any of that have I? I wasn't even planning to. When in the last 2-3 weeks have I even posted about him. I have only been in this thread since Mourinho's telling comments came out. There has been a discussion about Ronaldo I avoided a few pages back if I really wanted to bash him I would but he is a quality player there is no reason to. You chose to ignore where I call him a quality player and say Mourinho would still love to have him in his team. I have never said he is 'only about goals' I said the other things he does in games are seen less against better opposition which is a different argument. If you have a problem with what somebody says at least make sure you are accurate.

A report in spain that people on twatter are mentioning saying something about him signing a new Madrid contract. Its off :(

To the Thiago thread!

And Michael Jordan still earns more than all of them - he earned $80 / €60 last year!

Take a deep breath, friends. Twitter:

Worked for CNN, Base Soccer, The Sun, IPC Media, and Frank PR. Worked at football agency with predominately Arsenal and Spurs players.
3m

Mendes been having private conversations with agent to do with a view of bringing Ronaldo back to Manchester United. Massive news

It just isn't going to fecking happen.

1. Transfer fee. We're not to shell out 60/70/80 million on a player.

2. Wages. Rooney might be getting shitloads a week but Ronaldo's wages would probably have to dwarf that so that's another reason. Maybe Nike can chip in....

3. Moyes. I'm willing to give Moyes a chance and I'm a bit excited to see what direction he's going to take the club but I don't think Ronaldo will be relishing the opportunity to work with him.

4. Ronaldo still has a lot to do at Madrid. One league title and a cup in 3 years isn't great. I'm guessing he's not going to pack it in just yet.

So just....stop it. Stop trying to raise my hopes :(.

How reputable is that guy?

French/English agents have spoken this morning, and 100% M'Vila will be an Arsenal player. If I am wrong, will delete account. #arsenal
M'Vila 100% will be an #Arsenal player. My old boss flew over for the euros today, French agent confirmed it. Announced post euros. End of.
Nothing has changed M'Vila will still be an #Arsenal player. No doubt.

How do we know M'Vila is not an Arsenal player?.....

Alright feck this I'm out. I was enjoying a bit of transfer muppetry but the disappointment at the end is too much, I don't know how posters do this regularly all Summer. Goodbye Transfer forum

EDIT: Shit I thought this was the transfer forum.

Mendes is Ronaldo's agent isn't he? So what agent is he exactly speaking to?

Its nonsense, Madrid would never sell

Fella on United in Press today made a few good points. We are looking 65 million plus transfer fee and maybe around 300 grand a week for him because he wants to be best paid player in the world. All that for a 28 year old, not to mention the fact we dont know how Moyes would feel about a huge personality like him being at the club. I think Moyes is more comfortable coaching a collective rather than individuals and Ronaldo, as much as we love him, is of the biggest egos out there. There is just too much going against his return,, the most important of which is the investment could be used more wisely elsewhere.

Does anyone know how United deal with image rights?

If we give players all of their image rights like Barcelona do with Messi, then we could probably offer Ronaldo a Rooney salary and his image rights, and he'll still earn more than he's currently making at Madrid by virtue of him being the most marketable footballer currently playing.
