Cristiano Ronaldo | Transfer Speculation

Mane cost just over 30m. He is 25, lighting up the premiership and has another 9 years in him. I think people are assuming Ronaldo is going to come back, score a tonne of goals and play for another 6 years. It's not going to happen. Zidane has had to manage Ronaldo's game time to get the best out of him this season. 130m for a player you cant even play most of the time? Crazy
He played 46 games for Real last season despite missing pre season with a bad injury. I doubt we'll be playing 90 games next season so it shouldn't be too big a problem.

That's complete bullshit

I still don't believe this. I don't think it'll happen. If it does, obviously I'll be estatic!

I don't believe it for a second that he's coming back but if was to be, it would be the biggest blockbuster signing in the history of England's top league.

32 or not, he's the reigning world player of the year, blatantly good for at least another 3 seasons as a pure striker and is a marketing juggernaut.

If you can't understand why United would pay £150m for him I don't think you've been paying attention. This isn't Wayne Rooney we're on about here.

But still, it's a pipe dream. And to be honest if I was him I'd want to go somewhere I hadn't been before and it sounds like Paris would massively outbid United too.

They can win the CL for a third time in a row next season which would be absolutely sensational given the recent CL history. Money won't win them the trophey, unlike Ronaldo...Maybe they thought to cash in earlier in the season when Ronaldo was off form. I very much doubt it that they want to sell him now.

Every one has a price. At 32 it's only logical to cash in while theyre still on top of the game.

Nobody doubted ronaldo professionalism and his fitness, but if there's one thing you can't beat is the nature of aging.

He got 3-4 years left, and that's a stretch. Madrid won't sell him for 30-40m but 100m is an offer they can't refuse.

My bet is that perez has grown weart of his antic and can't wait till the time is right to stick him one

Even though Ronaldo is almost past his prime... he would serve as a great bridge for us until we either develop the young strikers or find a suitable replacement.
More importantly, he helps shift the balance of power in favor of the Premier League becoming the strongest in the world. Already we have the best managers and having a player of Cristiano's quality can only continue to lure the best players to the league.

I just don't see the point of paying £130m for someone that will effectively be finished in 18 months.

Utter lunacy!!!!!!

I'd say he's got a minimum of 2 years still at the top. Would you pay £130 if it meant a league title in the next 2 years?

He's got 3 years left of 30-40 goal seasons. He'll then have a Giggs-like late thirties.

Depends on whose point of view you want to see it from?
-For Jose, he might well win him a league and give us a puncher's chance in the CL. He might even give him the breathing room to turn a 2-3 year job into a longer term thing. And the younger players would learn from him. They couldn't fail to.
-For the supporters, they get to see a world class player, who has some sort of affinity for the club (I'm dubious as to how much, but that's by-the-by), who might potentially make their team successful and would undoubtedly make watching their team more exciting. As to the fee, why would supporters really care? It's not like the Glazers will put the money in our pockets if they don't spend it.
-If you see it from the club's point of view, yeah, it's a massive amount of money, but the commercial revenue he'd generate would make up for that somewhat. If he makes us successful, with the added commercial benefits that would bring, the fee wouldnt be the end of the world. We can afford it without any major issue.

If Cristiano Rpnaldo has defrauded the Spanish exchequer of 16m in unpaid taxes....Shouldn't he be facing a jail sentence (like Hoeness did in Germany) rather than throwing a strop entirely orchestrated to get him out of paying up?

Oh I agree totally. My point was that an absolute minimum he's got 2 years at the very top and for that to be it then it would have to be an unprecedented radical decline which is not going to happen given his fitness levels.

As you said I think he's got 2-3 years at a phenomenal level and quite probably another 2-3 after that at a very high level.

"If the supporters are shit...you must acquit."

I expect this to saga to go like this
  • Lots of rumours about United bidding for ronaldo, United agreeing a deal with mendes, united being close to Ronaldo with only fee left to be agreed
  • Finish of confederation cup
  • Crunch meeting between mendes,Perez, Ronaldo
  • New contract signed, increased wages, real pay his fine, he declares his love for Madrid and says he never wanted to leave and it was media speculation and he will retire at madrid.
  • All speculation ends, united sign Morata albiet 10 days later than they originally would have being caught in so much speculation and being used again.

Would be my guess as well

Maybe he didn't want to leave, but Madrid want to sell him but are allowing him to show as if he wants to go. That way if he does go jail, they make their money back plus some.

If Ronaldo does leave Real, who would be the biggest loser?

Ronaldo would not be able to compete at the highest level like he does now, and there goes an opportunity to win individual accolades.

Madrid's domination of European football might come to an end.

These two need each other imo, and it would be stupid to end the relationship by either.

In the PL? No chance! I would still love him here though.

Why not? He scores in big games anyway and barring the top six the rest of the league is underwhelming. Assuming we strengthen in other areas as well as up top.

Ronaldo will be lining up for Real come the start of next season.

This thread is pure fantasy. We dream of Ronnie returning home.

Mendes: Don't worry, I won't let you down. I'll suck 100 cocks if I have to.
Ronaldo: Whoaaa, no one said anything about sucking cocks. Just negotiate my transfer.

Commercial sense....we are not going to get £130m in shirt sales and other merchandising but even uf we did most of it would end up with Adidas.

Wouldn't it make sense to spend that money on Mbappe who will give you a minimum of 10 years plus trophies.

If the asking price is 131M£, it is not a bad deal from United POV.

Yes he is 32. But he still probably got about 2 or 3 25 goals/season and probably another 2 or 3 15 goals per season. Maybe more. He's in phenomenal condition.

Say we pay 131M£ for him in fees. In total we would have paid about 143.5M including his original fee back in 03'. We got back 80M of that money from Madrid. So overall we would have forked out about 64M for him.

For guaranteed goals, commercial opportunity and the chance to see the best player on the planet play for us, 64M overall is a terrific deal for 5 seasons.

Of course all this only makes sense if the whole thing is true, which I don't completely buy. They'll pacify him and he's gonna sign a new contract.
