Nothing has happened, don't get excited.

How much do you reckon we would have to bid to get him? Would it be feasible to sell Di Maria for ~£60m to P$G, and launch a bid with however much more money on top?

This is next-level muppet mode, mind you. Not saying it's realistic at all but the thought occurred to me.
All the talk about what we need to sign to win the title, if we can get Ronaldo it almost guarantees the title.

Even if he's 30 we'd still probably have to pay £69m (€100m). He's marketability is priceless though, we'd make a huge amount back on his fee from new sponsorship deals and the likes.

He's wages would be the stumbling blocks though, but having said that there isn't a player in the world worth more than £350k a week than Messi and Ronaldo.

If we can ship ADM for £60m, surely it's worth it?

He'd probably be worth it even if we didn't sell Di Maria. Wouldn't you happily pay £80m over 3 seasons if he maintained 40-50 goals per season? Be a cheap title!

Yeah, I absolutely agree. Though honestly I think if he was available for ~£70m we would be all over him.

If he were to leave Madrid soon (and I do get the impession things are not well in the Real Madrid camp) then I can only see us having to fight it out with either Chelsea or PSG as far as his choices would go. I would like to think that Old Trafford would be first on his list. As already mentioned, that would pretty much wrap-up any discussion as to where all the silverware is headed next season.

If he smashes goals in pre-season btw, does that count towards his RMadrid scoring record etc (that everyone thinks he's desperate to break)?

nearly 400 people 'do not want' Ronaldo back at Man United?!! Jesus Christ
Guaranteed titles (or atleast strong challenge)

For God sakes Ronaldo be a man and just ask for the captains armband instead of giving people false hope that you'll be coming back to Manchester.

I don't know why people think he will move after breaking the record,, everything we know about him says he'd want to keep bettering the record, leaving his legacy intact, he won't play for another European club I think, maybe move to America in 4 years or so

He'll probably get his armband when Ramos moves to United (although by their rules it ought to be Marcelo).

If only Paz... If only

Might explain why PSG are apparently being stingy on the Di Maria fee, if they are bringing in Ronaldo as well - even whichever rich cnut is it that owns them might need to find a bit more loose change to fund those two moves.

@jojojo has stated a few times in the thread that there's a story of Ronaldo telling those close to him that he doesn't think it would be a wise move for him to come to the EPL in his thirties, as the league is too physically challenging.

I'd assume PSG or the MLS, depending on when he decides to leave/or Perez decides to cash in.

Not sure how true it is though, but jojojo is generally knowledgeable on most things La Liga.

It is probably petty and childish but I honestly have never forgiven him for leaving us in 2009. I want him to watch us rise again and beg to come here after kicking a fuss to leave.

Cristiano has his entire career perfectly planned , knows the club , and surely is aware that he doesn´t have too much time left. After all he has won I think his greatest obsession is to be top scorer in the club. After that, it's natural to leave. I'd bet on PSG , who will offer a great contract and the possibility of being the absolute star in the French league , the signing that could be the final push for Khelaifi´s project

That makes sense to me.

How does selling his image rights recently fit into all this? I can't figure that out.

I don´t understand very well how that works. He received an amount of money in exchange for a number of advertisings or will receive a % of the benefits?.Can he control what he wants to announce or now is totally controlled by Lim? At present Madrid gets 40% of his image rights, I don´t know how this works in other clubs.

The image rights deal, I suspect, is more likely to be related to tax than transfers. There's been an acceptance in football that the image rights companies owned by players are often just another way of paying wages and advertising income.

The image rights companies that players set up to receive the money are mostly not businesses at all. The "companies" don't buy the rights off the player and they don't do any significant trading - they just get the money and store it for the player. The changes in EU tax law allow deals that make no financial sense to be effectively rewritten by the Tax offices to reflect the actual transaction - that is, it looks at where the money goes and ignores the route.

Lim is a longterm business partner of Mendes. I suspect Ronaldo is the advert for a new way of handling the image rights game that is less prone to tax office scrutiny. Just a guess, but I certainly don't think it's got anything to do with transfers, except in the tax-efficiency sense.

Not to get any hopes up but I'm pretty certain the owner of Valencia (who now owns Ronaldo's image rights) is also the owner of Salford City
