Cristiano Ronaldo | Signs for United! Fcuk City

Fergie tried and failed 24 times and won twice. Either way your point doesn't make sense as eventually as long as City are trying and spending they will eventually win it. If you think that because City have never won the ucl they will never go on to win it I don't know what to tell you.
And a top player wouldn’t have joined Utd to win a Balon Dor and CL back then, even under Sir Alex.
Eventually win this, eventually win that. I have been told that for 5 years now and Pep is still fecking up and he isn’t doing anything else to change that.
Ronaldo hasn’t got much time to win the CL agian.
Cristiano thought the exact same way when joining serial CL losers in Juve and look what time he wasted. What makes City any different?

He isnt an United legend cause what he achieved and he achieved a lot. There's a difference between being a great player for a club and being a club legend.
And my question is why is he not a United legend? He achieved what very few have playing for us and was the best in the world. Was the spearhead of one of our most successful periods. Is it just the bitterness that he gave more to Madrid what hinders him (in your eyes) from being a United legend?

I don’t cheer City goals which are not scored by Ronaldo. If your son played for City and scored for them one day, would you cheer for him?

But what if you were Ronaldo? You would have to cheer for the goals of your team mates, even if just for the cameras.

Maybe it makes me sound like a bitter old get but fans that follow and support individual players instead of clubs are weirdos and I hate it.

Nah, it is definitely weird as feck. I find it both annoying and pathetic.

Although and tbf, if it is your son in question...:wenger:

People are really going into meltdown here over this, saying he isn't a club legend, etc.

Yes, he did more at Real Madrid but that doesn't take away the fact that he is a Manchester United club legend. The guy carried us to two champions league finals, winning one. He was immense here.

It's strange how some people on here actually talk about him. Just because 12/13 years have gone by, don't allow it to cloud your judgement of him, try & take yourself back to 2008 and remember just how much you loved him as a player. If Bruno moved to Real Madrid in a few years and did exceptionally well, would you share the same opinion too?

I really don't expect him to join City. He speaks very fondly of Manchester United & we were a big part of his career. I don't think he'd tarnish his reputation with us by going to join up with Pep & the oil brigade.

It actually makes a lot of sense, if you're someone who is looking for consistency in terms of playing style, philosophy, quality, etc. You know what to expect from people like Ronaldo, Messi, Guardiola, Bielsa, etc. That isn't true for clubs. United went from being a club which promoted youth and did things the 'right way', to being a Galactico in a just a year. Their football style went from wing play to ball hogging to park the bus all inside 3 years.

i would like to see Ronaldo play in EPL again but fecking City? Ouch:confused:

The daft celebration after he scored against us for Juventus and the fact we were in about 30 seconds of that 90 minute film he made about himself showed Utd meant feck all to him I think

He tried to leave Utd the summer after we won the League and the CL. Fergie managed to convince him to stay one more year.

I've never ever got the impression of Ronaldo having any fondness for Utd or the Utd fans. Fergie? Yeah I do think Ronaldo has loyalty and affection for Fergie but I think it ends there.

Phenomenal player, but not a club legend IMO.

Him acting sulky and refusing to celebrate goals in his last season left a very bad taste in my mouth.

It's about loyalty to the club though. It's the whole point of football.

It makes no sense to just support one player. It's madness

One poster mentioned his relationship with the fans. Does anyone remember him mentioning the club or the fans. He mentioned and talked about Fergie and they have a great relationship but the connection between him and United has always been rather one sided. In the sense of fans still loving him and official Instagram account showing his goals and mentioning his accolades.
Now you just sound like a jilted lover.

No. You miss the mark. It's cause he couldn't wait to go to Madrid and didn't have any connections with the club from then on. United was just a sidenote in his career and thus shouldnt be considered a legend imo.

I don’t really care his teamates or his team. I only care about his own legacy. At this age, I don’t mind he won nothing for City, as he has already won alot throughout his career. As long as he extend his scoring records further, as a fanboy I am happy enough.

But of course I don’t wish him to join our rivals, I am totally against it. But if it happened so, that won’t stop me from cheering his goals, as I always do over past 18 years.

I remember us needing a goal in one game that season and him subbing himself off by just running off the pitch down the tunnel.

The fans were borderline ready to turn on him at points that season.

Of course not, but would you cheer for your son or your brother or your best childhood friend or your best mate though in same situation?

It’s such an absurd hypothetical but ok I’ll play along. If my non existent son played for Tottenham and was banging goals in for them of course I would support my son because the football team I support is nothing more than a hobby, a passion at best and absolutely nothing compared to my own flesh and blood and offspring.

Your hypothetical to try and link a player you have no relation to is so astounding bizarre I actually worry for you.

A better hypothetical would be if my teams club legend went to Tottenham, so for example if Thierry Henry joined them even in the twilight of their career then I would absolutely not celebrate when he scores for them.

Comparing a player who spent a few years at your club to supporting your own child. Jesus Christ.

Great post.

Ronaldo isn't your fecking son!

but what if he feels like Ronaldo is his son? Surely that changes everything!
Nah, it is definitely weird as feck. I find it both annoying and pathetic.

It's weird AF but not totally unexpected. We're in that age of people following players. I'd actually be curious what Cal? would think if he signed for City.

Well said. 100% agree.

Hypothetically speaking, of course you could also choose to blame him for scoring for City, and not giving him food as punishment.

You are no different to the rest of the great unwashed to Ronaldo, he wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire.

To be so obsessed with a single player that you would cheer for him while he scores for one of the clubs biggest rivals shows you aren’t a United fan at all.

Judging by your name you’ve always been a Ronaldo fan first, United second anyway, so it’s no surprise.

Well afterall I am just a fanboy for very long period of time, it’s all about fanboy mentality, abit of cult thing in terms of my support/worship, I won’t be ashamed to admit it, as I have already stressed that I could only speak for myself.

Its very different thing as compared to traditional fan who would only support for their club. For me, I support both, almost equally.

In perspective, I will support Man Utd for the rest of my life, but I could only support Ronaldo for a few more years as he is approaching his retirement. With him joining our rivals for a short period of time, won’t stop me from cheering his goals.

Acrually I support United since around 1990, for over 30 years. I support Ronaldo since 2003, for around 18 years. United always come first for me, but Ronaldo is a very close second. I know it’s tough when there conflict of interest (for example Ronaldo playing against us), but I won’t totally give up my support, just because he joined our rivals. You see I am not a black or white kind of person, there are things I could compromise.

This is pretty unhealthy mate.

You do appreciate that is a bit mad though, yes? Not taking this piss now, just checking/honestly interested .

How did the Ronaldo love grow? I love Ronaldo, and would love to see him here, but if he went to City he can go and feck himself because Man Utd is more important than a single player. I'm just trying to understand. What country are you from if you don't mind me asking?

Well it’s very rare case for me or anyone supporting a player for over 18 years, while no other player has ever gather a fanbase of over 330 million in this world before, for me I simply regard him as my only exception. For other people, their only exception could be someone whom they have close connection to. It doesn’t matter, my point being, there are always exception.

In response to your example on club legend, let’s just say if Rooney or Ruud or Evra or even Scholes or Giggs or Keane joining a rival, of course I won’t cheer for them, as they are nothing more than club legend to me. Whereas Ronaldo to me, he is more of “religion” or even a “cult” thing to me, rather than just a hobby, hence I am comfortable to admit myself as a Ronaldo fanboy, even with all the potential backlash in future Messi vs Ronaldo argument. I’d say he is an exception to those who has shared the same fanboy mentality too. And no I don’t fanboy anyone or any other player, except Ronaldo.

Sorry but that sounds absolutely mental.

At least you know how bizarre and unhealthy it is.

Ronaldo to Man City is such a desperate and forced rumour.

All I'm seeing is man trying to keep himself relevant with these made up rumours because he knows he is washed and his main rival joined a super team potentially about to win the Champions league. Nobody actually want him.

City want Kane. Real and PSG don't need him. Bayern still have Lewandowski at the peak of his powers. There is nowhere for him to go

I can proudly say I stopped giving a shit about Ronaldo when he said we were treating him like a slave.
