I think that's a silly statement to make tbh.

If he's such a game changer at this stage of his career, why aren't Juventus challenging for the title this season with him in the team, instead of hoping for a CL place?
Because their team manager and half their team are shit and a 36 year old ronaldo can’t carry a team on his own.

Exactly. He moved to Juventus to win a CL with a 3rd separate club in 3 different leagues; I don't see why he would come back to England where he already conquered in his eyes.

I can see him going to PSG, I can maybe imagine Ronaldo himself begging Bayern to buy him on a single year contract (doubt bayern would be interested), finally sticking to Italy or moving back to Portugal depending on how the euros go.

by all accounts he wanted to come back here after Madrid but mourinho didn’t want him... I wonder why that is?

Are you....are you ok?

Why is this turning into another Ronaldo vs Messi shitefest? There's a thread already for that.
It always does. The problem with the argument stems from the fact both are in the same era.

The truth is if both had played alone in this era without the other and did what they did, there is no doubt in my mind that both would have considered the clear cut greatest of all time. However, it seems at times like the competition between them diminishes their value in some eyes.

They are both better than Pele and Maradona, they both play with attractive styles and are both very efficient and effective to their teams, more so than any players before them. Personally, I think Messi is a better player, but Ronaldo's mentality can actually give him the argument as the greater player when its all said and done.

Losing lukaku the younger upward trajectory striker and getting ronaldo the older player on huge money on the way down wouldn’t be a fair trade off when it comes to squad building. Ronaldo was class but we have Cavani now. We need to think about the future. I doubt Ole and the lads get sucked into something this massive unless the glazers insist on him being our Tom Brady and that wouldn’t surprise me much at all. I think it would be a mistake. Save the big cash for kane or haaland or even mbappe if he doesn’t sign a new deal soon.

If Ronaldo was ok on a smaller wage and understood he would be rotated I would be fine... as I do not see Ronaldo accepting those conditions I would pass on this.

The bigger problem would be Ronaldo accepting he is not taking penalties...

You really think Bruno would be taking pens and not Ronaldo?
Of course, ahead of any player in the world and without a slightest doubt. He is the best in the world in that regard

He’d be an upgrade on martial and that’s who would be getting the arse to make this happen.

personally after the season martial has had, I’d be all for it.

There’s no doubt Martial has been shocking beyond all belief this season. Ronaldo would definitely be a massive upgrade on him. But with Cavani in hand now it’s safe to table all speculation about Cristiano coming back.

Bruno SHOULD be taking penalties. He has a pretty much spotless record. They've actually taken the exact same amount of penalties over the last three seasons (36) and Ronaldo has missed double the amount that Bruno has. Of course, that is only missing 4 compared to Bruno's 2 so it's still a very good record, but why should we take Bruno off them?

Somehow him returning wouldn't be romantic for me but humiliating. Him going away on his prime and returning is his lower years would make me feel like a second tier team. Something like Rooney for Everton.

Don't want him, he had the chance choose Juve so let him retire elsewhere.

If Ronaldo came back to United he would be taking all penalties,he would be taking allfree kicks and Bruno would not be arguing about it

If Juventus don't make the CL this season then PSG would make the most sense for Ronaldo. Not as demanding at his age as PL and he will be guaranteed qualification to CL for a few more years. Though it would be a helluva headache for poch to accommodate neymar, ronaldo and mbappe in the same lineup. Probably need 3 x clones of kante in midfield to do the donkey work.

let’s remember Bruno was very lucky to have 2 of his pens retaken.

Bruno has earned the right to keep taking pens because of what he’s done at United in any case.

Ronaldo is an intelligent person, he knows going to United would be a bad move.

I honestly don’t think the club or the player wants it.

Can tell you’re a new member, Ronaldo vs Messi is probably the topic on this forum that gives the mods the most aggro. No chance it’s just the media.

Also, I wouldn’t claim this forum is biased towards Ronaldo just because he played for us. A lot here dislike Ronaldo over the way he left, myself included.
The only people who I personally know that put them in the same bracket are Man Utd fans and people who don't actually watch the game i.e they just read/watch the news.

Having watched them both since the early days of their career, in every aspect of the game other than the number of goals they score (at which they are equal), Messi is and has always been on another level. To say otherwise is just a lie.

It’s your opinion and that’s fine. Not a question of facts though, it’s purely subjective. You could say you prefer Titus Bramble, and you wouldn’t be wrong.

Christ talk about presenting your own opinion as fact. I know Liverpool fans who tell me Ronaldo is better than Messi.

One Isn’t another level on the other, both two of the worlds best ever.

To present your opinion as fact is, in my opinion, the lie

Let's just ignore all those who voted Ronaldo the better player in 7 of the last 13 years in the Ballon Dor voting and go with your opinion.

Not sure the Ballon D’Or is the argument you should be using here, bud

That is an weird statement because it's going to depend on what you rate in a player.

Their output and impact on the game during their careers is close enough that you can say that either of them is better than the other and not be wrong about either choice.

I get why a lot of people gravitate towards Messi and that's mainly because he has a more natural flow and playstyle that represents a more old school technical football while Ronaldo is the apex of the modern athlete / footballer.

They are in the same bracket because although they bring different things in to the table, in the end the result is/was pretty much the same.

Lots of us have been watching since their early days. Your statement is bollocks.

I don't see the logic in this. We have a young team brimming with attacking talent, a talisman number 10 who plays almost like a forward and Cavani as our experienced CF to give us movement and arial presence. Then it's obvious were going for Sancho this summer as our marquee RW signing.

And still some people want us to pay enormous money on top of that to also add Ronaldo? Are we going to play a 118 formation next year?

He doesn't need us - we are not challengers for anything major. And I don't think we need him.

And I wouldn’t choose to come back at this stage of his career if I were him too. There’s nothing left for him to prove at Man Utd and PL, as he had already won everything here.

Rather I’d go for more records, and to make sure no one is going to break his in next 50 years or so. So ideal choice would be going to PSG.

Agreed. Even if we are optimistic we are still a work in progress. You could see a situation where we don't really challenge for big honours for another 3-4 years.

But imagine the coverage if he leads United to the first title since Sir Alex.

You say this but I think he'd easily smash in 30+ goals. He has adapted his play to be an out and out striker, he's not really going to run the channels and he won't press but he'll get on the end of everything, which is really what we need because, as much as I love Cavani's work ethic off the ball, it's pretty pointless when we don't press well as a team. Why would it be humiliating?

I personally don't think it would interest him but you're talking about a player who essentially guarantees 30+ goals a season (Juve first season he 'only' got 28 in 43) and never has his stats padded (as much as I hate that term) through EL games - whereas Cavani, who I like FYI, didn't score in 4 CL apps, didn't score in 3 FA cups apps and has 9 in 25 PL games. That's not to knock Cavani and he's been injured/ come off the bench a load but our issue is chance creation/finishing and Ronaldo fixes (as much as a single player can) the latter.

You've seen what Cavani does with the service here. Cristiano playing infront of a full old trafford again will be magical. He'd easily bag 30 goals as a poacher next season.

He won't come back.

Are people saying we should sign him picturing him rotating with Cavani or what? I don't really understand where he'd fit in now, as he'd want him to start every game probably, which he shouldn't at his age if you want to get the best out of him arguably.

Maybe if he was free or very cheap, reduced his wage demands significantly, and it did not affect us getting Sancho.
A 35 year old Ronaldo is leaps above a 25 year old Martial.

Which part of it isn't true? 7 out of the last 13 years, Ronaldo was voted the better player than Messi

Messi is two and a half years younger. Being a fan of a single player can really curdle your mind, it seems…….
