I'm about the same age as you (38) and I can safely say my favourite moments supporting the club were the Treble season and regaining our title back from Arsenal in 2002 because that involved most of the members of the Class of 92, a group of players who were the reason for me supporting the club.

If there are no takers and mutual termination of the contract without paying up the rest of the wages isn't an option then maybe that's what might happen. If it's a mutual end with no payment that's the best case.
The worst case scenario for me is if the club gives in and pays the rest of his deal just to get rid of him. I think that's weak and it harms the club's image. Let him rot in the reserves and let him train with the youth team. I think it happened to Becks at Madrid, Schweinstiger at United so there are precedents with big name players. It'd be a hell of a statement to make.
I have been a United supporter since the 70s. My favourite player back then was Gordon McQueen then Robbo and finally Cantona. There has never been a shadow of a doubt that those mentioned players loves United. Ronaldo only loves himself and United was always a stepping stone to his career, which is fine.
But don't be fooled into thinking that he values United any more than say Sporting or RM. They are only tools for his financial objectives.
It always boggles my mind why he has so many millions of followers on social media.
It's not like he has anything interesting to say. Vacuous at worst or insipid at best. It's all about his botox-ed face or body. So it makes you wonder about his 'followers'.... not that there is anything wrong with that.

Awful in how he conducts himself in his profession, but he's done a lot for various communities and I've heard firsthand from people that have met him/spent time with him that he's a lovely person.

I work in Software Engineering it's a good laugh to watch Elon handle the twitter fiasco, I'd actually love to see it go bust, because he's ripping the company apart right now.
The practices like the check marks are ill-thought out and he fired a thousand or so engineers based on how many lines of code they wrote, which is basically firing the top performers at the company. You have to really think about what is the most efficient or elegant solution and not botch together multiple lines of inefficient code.

Agreed (if its a DOF AND ETH making decisions), I mean players are there for a manager to get results.
The DOF is also there for long term planning, but ETH knows what he wants and he's proven to have made the right decisions so far.
You know what you are missing in a squad, and you know what isn't working, who isn't performing.
The manager knows how the dressing room is, who has what attitude and where the problems lie.
He should be the first to say this player can get sold, this player is surplus to requirements and the power should be with him.
The DOF and ETH should have full power.
