I thought that this summer. Him essentially going on strike was code for he had an agreement to go to a new club which I would have been perfectly fine with, since that’s how that game goes.
So I was surprised when nothing happened. His legacy would have been untarnished if he did leave then. He would have had a good encore season for us. His immediate goals don’t match up with our longer term goals so let us mutually part etc.
Yeah, and like, sometimes I am a bit surprised honestly by how Ronaldo is viewed. I’ve followed him closely almost his entire career. From his first game for us.
How can anyone be surprised? For good and for bad, this is who he is. For good and for bad. Ronaldinho’s prime career was what 6 years? Ronaldo’s prime career was what, 10-12 years? Romário’s prime career was about the same. Rooney’s prime career was what 10-12 years. Maradonna’s prime lasted what, 8-10 years.
Ronaldo has played at the highest level for
19 years. Nineteen effin years. No real dip.
He will never stop fighting. Fading away after being benched in favor of Martial at a non-CL team won’t do it. He knows what he is doing, and he will accept the challenge. Nobody believes in him, nobody wants him, he will make sure everyone is aware of it — and aim to turn it around. He would play for 10 more years if he could.
But facts are, there will be an end of road for Christiano Ronaldo too. Nobody is immortal. His end could come soon, or he could pull it off and rescue his career. But this is how he works. He won’t “accept it”. He have never accepted anything. For good and for bad. Why are we surprised?
For me, he will always be a legend. But I can honestly say that I have never liked him. I’ve been astonished by him, but he has never been likable. Or perhaps his first year I liked him. But its always him against the world, him before his team. I really enjoy having experienced his career, but he is what he is and what he always have been.
