Cristiano Ronaldo | Real confirm deal

While that’s debatable, he’s obviously amongst the very best. But that’s not the point. What’s important is, wether he’s still worth this much money, once he’s 35 or 36 years old. I find that quite unlikely, to be honest. Paying for past performances rarely works out. Juve are risking quite a lot here, in my opinion.

The price wouldn't really matter for clubs who benefit from his goals and the success he would bring, as well as the marketing of the club brand.

Of course it does. Like with any other deal they make. If he fails to deliver, they’ll lose a shitload of money. From what I’m reading, he’ll be costing them roughly 85 million euros a year. I find it hard to believe, that he’ll be able to generate enough success and marketing revenue and general attention, to be worth this much. Maybe the first year. Maybe even the second one. But I really doubt that a 36 or 37 year old player could be worth this much money.

You wouldn't lose a shitload of money because of the expanded marketing he brings to the club by way of bigger and better sponsorship oppos.

That Barca team was something else though - I don't think we will see the likes of it again, just like we will never see the Class of 92 again. Bayern was a one-horse race in the league and if he did not win, it would have been a massive failure. And he did not win the UCL with them, so it can be seen as a step back for them after the treble under Heynckes. As much as City have been good this season, I think it was more of our own failures and other teams who sat back too much against them, not to mention they have an almost spotless injury record last season with regards to their key players.

Winning a treble is a once in a lifetime deal, anything less after it would be considered a 'step back' but not really if success is sustained one way or another. Did United take steps back after the treble? Im not really talking about the CL with City though, just the league, its Pep's thing. I think its a bit disingenuous to play down City's incredible season the way you have here. If teams were sitting back against City then they felt they had a reason to. Teams used to sit back a lot against United under Fergie. Would that be a legit reason to play down United's success under him?

We should get in there and hijack this from Juventus. Our shorts sales alone will be enough to fund this purchase.

But is that really such a big factor? I’m not sure about that. Also, even those income streams are highly dependent on his performances and his image. Once his performances drop significantly, so will Juve‘s appeal to sponsors.

You can't approach things with this sort of negative mindset though. You make the appropriate investments necessary to win at all costs and bringing in the world's best player(s) is the best way to do it.

Significantly less likely if we signed him since it would be us who have the upper hand over the league and CL.
Real didnt win those CL based purely on Ronaldo though. We wouldnt automatically be contenders for CL or EPL just by signing him. Big waste of money at that price IMO.

I agree with that. But I highly doubt that he’ll be amongst the worlds best players in two years time. People act like Ronaldo will just keep on going at the same pace. I just don’t see that happening.

He's the leading scorer in Champions League history. Of course they won them because of him. They had been CL disappointments in the preceding decade and wound up winning 4 of them while he was there.

Theres 10 other players in a football team. Stop talking shit. Where did they finish in the league?

He has 116 CL goals. They wouldn't have come near a final if he wasn't on that team. The league issue has been resolved earlier in the thread. Scroll up.

Dodge that then, ok... he has won feck all leagues in 9 years at Real. Raul was top goalscorer in CL for Real before Ronaldo, how many CLs did he win? Ronaldo didnt win the CL on his own and coming to United wouldnt help us in anyway. Hes 33 ffs. Anyway, Im finished talking to you about this you obviously havent a clue.

Why switch over to the league now? Fact is he is a champions league monster and has won an incredible unprecedented amount.

Why do people feel the need to keep repeating this debunked theory?

I see the "why do people repeat this debunk theory" more than those that actually say it which is pretty annoying (besides even if shirt sales don't directly get impacted you do make more money commercially)

Im not disputing his record. But 100 million plus 40 million a year wages for a 33 year old? Come on man, that makes no sense.

There's no dodge. The question was asked before and answered earlier in the thread. You're a smart enough guy to read the earlier posts.

What business is it of yours how much we spend on him ? That's for the club to decide. If they deem it reasonable for what he produces then that's up to them.

Why would it be brought up if someone else didn't mention it to begin with? Adidas and other kit suppliers make a standard 85-90% of all revenue from shirt sales (not including the little extra for printing and patches). Its a long shot.

People can comment and have an opinion though

So can others who think an opinion is half-thoughtout bullshit. Its a two way street.

Yes criticise the opinion. Comments like what business is it of yours sounds like you’re critisising even having an opinion.

Yes but real would have no champions league without him. All I am saying.

Which isn't a particularly controversial thing to say and yet some would have us believe CR7 was somehow incidental to Madrid winning 4 CLs in 5 years.

BTW ive been an official member for a decade and have literally spent thousands supporting the club through merchandise and games. Ive already got 5 games for the coming season at home and will attempt to get a couple more through the big game ballots. So its kind of my business since Im financially contributing. Sure my names not Glazer but I do my bit. How much of your business is it out of interest?

Maybe till I see sustained performance from them. They were nowhere near the title 2 seasons ago, despite spending a ton of money even before Pep arrived to set everything up for him. When was the last CL that Pep won anyway?

A player of his caliber will surely help us to compete, there's no doubt about it. But whether that will justify his transfer fee and wages is another thing because with those money We could probably get two good players.

We have to be careful this time, Ronaldo is still a very good player but We desperately need a new fullback and a new RW, the squad still have gaps here and there. I wouldn't mind if the club decide not to be involved in this at all, especially after the Ronaldo saga before this one and the one before that and the one before that and the one before that.
