Cristiano Ronaldo | Real confirm deal

reddaz71 sounds like a trustworthy source of transfer news. I'm on board. He's coming home.

I have a feeling this will be a small train...so move aside and make some room for me, I’m coming along for the ride too!

Honestly who wouldn't take Ronnie back, even if it's only for a couple of years. I'm not one of his fanbois but you can't deny the sheer quality this guy brings to a team even now that he is getting older and plays more like a classic striker he is still one of the biggest goal threats you can have in your team.

The only way I wouldn't want him back is if Real demands stupid money just to finance a deal for Neymar/Mbappe/Kane or any other younger world class player. If any of the just mentioned players would be available I would of course hope we rather go for those guys instead of Ronaldo, simply because we will be able to plan for a longer period with these players playing on the top level of football.

Would you rather have Ronaldo for two seasons or two seasons of Neymar / Mbappe whose head inevitably gets turned by one of the Spanish giants and then leaves under a cloud?

Why do people automatically assume this will happen? De Gea just extended his contract again with us despite Real consistently trying to poach him. It's all about the money, as long as we pay them as much as Real or Barca would and stay competitive I doubt there is much reason to leave. Yes Neymar might be a problem in that regard since his heart for some reason also seems to be set on Real so I reckon it's not worth trying to get him in, especially though because he will be outrageously expensive and PSG has no reason to sell.

Still the point remains if Real asks for 200M € for Ronaldo we should stay away from this deal as far as possible and rather look to invest in players we can build a long term dynasty with instead of getting maybe one league title with Ronaldo and having to start rebuilding immediately again.

(sigh) I hate this thread, I hate everyone in it, Why do you do this to me every time? I am now fully aboard the muppet train, when's the reveal happening? I swear, he cant let us down again. Just like football, he's coming home.

Does anyone actually believe that a significant transfer will be involved if he moves? I can’t see anyone paying over £40m for him, and certainty nowhere near £100m due to his age and phenomenal wages.

You want to buy the best player in the World who routinely wins the biggest trophies in the World....for £40M? :p

£150M, minimum, is what it would take, but I don't think he will leavel.
He'll probably retire at Madrid or move to the USA, when his performance declines.

We've been buying young-ish players for the last 5 years.
Result: No title in 5 years.

Winning the title immediately is what the target should be. If we focus on wining the title in 4 years, say, that'll be 9 years without the league title.
IMO, the longer we go without winning the title, the more difficult it will be to win it again.

He won't go for a high sum of money at this stage of his career. He will go to a club that is determined to have him. Money is not an issue.

We also bought the likes of Schweinsteiger, Ibrahimovic, Falcao... still no title. Saying that our lack of success is down to buying young-ish players is disingenuous.

Fact is we've just bought the wrong players, doesn't matter if they're young or the ones you've listed

actually we've bought far more players in their prime than young players in the last five years.

Mata, Fellaini, Mkhi, Falcao, Di Maria, Herrera, Schneiderlin, Falcao, Bastian (arguably already well past his prime), Sanchez, now Fred who is 25. Then you've Pogba and Lukaku who were already well established at their age (23/24).

I'd argue our "age" policy is probably ideal when it comes to transfers, i.e. a mix of players who are entering their prime, cheap experienced options (Zlatan, Bastian), and talented youngsters (Shaw, Depay, Dalot). That's not our issue.

Mate, Ronaldo is not taking a pay cut when he's at his commercial peak.

I’ll be glad when he retires and we won’t have to hear these stupid fecking rumours every fecking summer.

I don’t want him using us as a retirement home after he’s enjoyed his best years at Madrid.

When Stacy Keibler is 40, you will still bang her or say "no you spent your best years with clooney" ?

If she left me for him, and then was discarded by him and insists on coming back and me picking up the tab? You bet your arse I’d turn her down.

Also, with the career and age of a footballer, the analogy would make more sense if you said she was in her 70s.

He won't. But Madrid will not mind lowering the transfer fee because Ronaldo has been a loyal servant and they will be lighter by releasing Ronaldo's wage.

If he's not leaving on good terms, I can't see Madrid play along.
Madrid won't give him away as long as he's producing. I even read a report that Mendes was trying to convince Florentino to agree for a knock down price of €120m.
No one is paying that for a 33.5 year old. Not even PSG would.
It all depends on how desperate he is to leave. I don't think he's desperate enough to take a pay cut that would allow a club pay that kind of fee.
He can't go anywhere for the same reason Madrid won't give him what he wants.

That implies Real Madrid being able to replace a player capable of scoring on at least a 1;1 ratio for the same fee they'd let Ronaldo go, and that's leaving aside the commercial impact and media exposure they could lose in individual awards.

His move has so many variables that it's almost impossible it happens, someone has to pay north of 100M, Real Madrid need to strike a "bargain" in the 100M range to replace him, the club that pays 100M for Ronaldo has to improve his wages, the guy Real Madrid signs needs to score bunch of goals and have market appeal, the team Ronaldo signs for needs a squad capable of winning the UCL and the guy that Real Madrid sign has to fit in their wage structure (until he proves he's worthy of a Ronaldo-exception) or earn so low that the marketability loss doesn't hit Real too hard.

If he asks to leave won't Madrid let him go regardless of a lot of those things though? I think they might.

Would you let Cristiano Ronaldo leave for free if you had him bound by contract until ¿2021?.

He'd have to antagonize the club, Real already had a lot of flak for letting Casillas go when he was still barely serviceable, Ronaldo is may be an even bigger legend.

They will let him go if they have a more or less firm agreement with Neymar or Mbappé.

I think Real wouldn't win anything next season and will enter in a transitional period then Florentino goes "all galacticos" in the end of the season with Neymar/Salah/Mbappé/De Bruyne etc type of signings.

She'll still be hot as feck in her 70's.

Or maybe I just have a thing for Helen Mirren.

Jane fonda then.

If he wants to leave after 9 years at the club? Not for free but Madrid would definitely facilitate the move if he asks to leave.

That's why Real filtrated rumours to Marca of his release clause being lowered to 120M.

It's Real Madrid way of telling the world they're open to negotiate around that sum. If Real go ask any other team to sell a player capable of scoring at least 75% of the goals Ronnie had this last two years that player won't go below 90M no matter the name, they're just protecting the club interests, ensuring if Ronaldo leaves they're not screwed next season.

It's one thing to facilitate the move, it's another to sell him for "nothing". We'd still demand a fee in the region of €120-150m
