Hey Ronnie,

It's a shame Real Madrid aren't treating you like the legend you are, making promises only to break them a few months down the line. Maybe this is what Fergie was trying to warn you about? The way Casillas was treated should have been a warning sign.

You've made your bed, now you've got to lie in it.

P.S. Pay your taxes, stop whoring yourself out and name dropping United, no one's going to pay your ego.

Yours sincerely,

Isn't that amount bigger than his yearly salary? I can see why He's acting like this then, it's a huge sum of money even if you're fecking rich. Also fits him well since He enjoys being a primadonna.

It's about a year and a half's worth of salary from Madrid. He's effectively worked for them for free over the last 2 seasons. Hence the toys out of the pram.

If I was Real and he was only fusing around because of the tax issue and making them to pay it , I would just kick him out to B team and see what happens - they are saying around they are bigger than anyone , but these days I can feel Ronaldo is bigger than Real

Ronaldo is bigger than the club now. Putting him in the B team would be incredibly toxic for the whole club. He has the potential to cause any manager or President of the club to lose their job. Best thing to do is play him in a position where he won't have as much as an impact, then selling him in a years time will be easy.

Ronaldo at 33 is at the end of his Madrid career in every aspect, everything else just exacerbates it including the tax issue.

Perez is more than likely looking at a replacement ie Neymar, wouldn't be too much of a surprise then if Ronaldo does actually leave this summer, where to? I think Mourinho would take him, Woodward surely even more so for very obvious reasons

Ronaldo is such a man-child. You'd think a man in his position would have all the leverage instead of playing silly games in an attempt to get more money.

I'd sign that letter. :D

It’s reasons like this I don’t want us entertaining the idea of bringing him home. Just isn’t worth bringing that circus to OT, if he was at his peak then absolutely, but at 33 and probably a downward projectory it’s not worth paying his ridiculous transfer fee and salary in addition to the antics.

I’d much rather we go for Bale or even just put faith in Martial and Alexis.

No one is bigger that Real Madrid.

But putting your record goal scorer in the reserves is stupid though. They can just bench him if they dont want to play him. They did that with bigger, homegrown legends like Raul and Casillas.

Tbf to the rich when you pay millions in tax and its deductible things arent as white and black.

Some normal workers could claim buying a 200 quid shoes as work related and add it as tax deductibles.

It will really get complicated if you're from another country with unaccounted accrued income such as royalty, performance bonuses, income rise from increased fame, investment loses and gains, stock market, property lost, etc. It wont be as simple as 30 percent of your monthly salary.
Thats true.

But you can counter this by saying the super rich have access to the best legal and tax minds there is.

Yes he's having the usual tantrum, yes his ego is frustrating and yes he's earning in a few weeks that many won't earn in a lifetime.

But put yourselves in his shoes for a few minutes and consider what he's just won for club and country, plus not to forget the records he's smashed at Madrid, you can kind of understand why he's annoyed Messi and Neymar are earning 20m more than him. If it were a few mil, phhh, but 20m is a lot and you don't see that in many sports

Just google top earners in NFL / NBA etc and there is "very" little annually between the top earners. Ronaldo's contract is well short of his stature in the game.

PSG, with Neymar going the other way?

But he keeps saying it's not about money?

No it's not. He makes around ~€22-25m a year after tax on his current contract. Throw in the image rights and sponsorship deals and he could actually pay it all in one go and still have enough to spare to buy a couple bugattis, a yacht and trip to space just with one year of earnings

It's still a lot of money though. But we're not the ones who didn't pay his taxes, so i don't see why this should fall on the club. If he were 3 years younger this wouldn't have been an issue though, we'd have given him Messi wages

Btw: dunno how taxation works for players in France, but Neymar's €37m a year deal is before tax. PSG pays Neymar less than what Real Madrid pays Cristiano Ronaldo. What they make after tax is another story...

Messi is in a league of his own across all sports. That happens when you're one of the 5 greatest players ever, still at his peak, still with a few more peak years ahead, playing at a club where he's worshipped, and with no salary cap/max deals

Cris would be getting similar wages too if he was 3 years younger

Also, this place keeps going on about Cristiano sagas as if they happen every year. He's been unhappy and angling for new contracts 2 times in 9 years. Once in 2012, and then last summer and this summer -all year long-

He's conrtacted til 2021. Madrid shouldn't sell him because he's still worth at least 30 goals a season and lets face it. Regardless of how this unfolds, Ronaldo isn't going to refuse to train or play as he wants to win individual trophies.

I can't imagine anyone being stupid enough to pay Madrid a fortune for a fading force.

I wonder if he's thought about going back to Portugal? Surely he doesn't need the money

You make it sound like he's fading Rooney style and should sail off to the US.....he's just bagged 44 goals this season and is smashing in goals like he did against Juve with the overhead kick...not to mention he's the current ballon d'or winner, he's at worst the second best player in the world why the hell would he go and play in Portugal now?

Keeping him against his will would be the worst thing we could do. If he's dead set on leaving, we should listen to offers and facilitate his move. He deserves it

And of course if the reason for this whole mess is Florentino made him a promise and now refuses to keep it, then he has the right of it and the club should keep its promise

And maybe if the deal in question is truly nonsensical, Flo should pay it back to the club out of his pockets.

Depends if the club was the one who, while organising his contract, said something along the lines of 'if we do it this way you'll end up getting this much after tax'. If it did go down like that and it was doing it the way they organised that has now got him in trouble, it's absolutely fair enough for him to expect them to pay it. Or if they were the ones who employ a tax agent to do their players taxes, or anything like that.

Yeah, in that case i'd agree. Doesn't seem to be the case though here. Blame appears to fall squarely on Jorge Mendes

I will sign this

Ronaldo is just like any other ex Galactico.
Figo
Carlos
Zidane
Beckham
Raul
Van Nistelrooy
Gutti

Soon as you’ve hit your peak and in decline the board look to your next replacement and you become just another Madrid legend whos came, won everything and move on. SAF warned Ronaldo what Madrid are like. Dont blame Ronnie for going there but now he’s not the sort of player we need as he’s certainly in the twilight of his career! Go to PSG or America and be proud, nothing left to prove.

Funny how the Messi brigade now thinks it’s despicable to evade tax yet ‘everybody does it’ just a few years ago.

I agre 100% that they and everyone should pay their taxes.

It’s just funny how some peopel’s tone about tax evasion completely changes depending who’s doing the evading.

For the record, if Ronaldo gets Real to cough up, good for him. If not, he’ll pay it.

Under no circumstance will the Spanish authorities lose out.

Do you have examples or quotes for such changed attitudes?

Even the best accountant is still prone to miscalcation at best (evil at worst). You don't pay the best to simply fill in the reports, you expect them to squeeze the most in the most legally way possible. And to be fair if common joe got badluck and choosen for random audit we will have underpay (not intentionally) or overpay.

My point is that it happens. Sometimes it's just a discrepancy, some other time it's a crime, most time it's just pay the difference.

In ronaldo case I'd assume he would just have to pay the difference. For us 28m is alot but for him it could be the 20 percent difference due to calculation error. If youre earning 100s of millions 28 million over the period of 5 years is within margin of error.

And we dont?

We just had the badluck of our fans still thinking rooney isnt past it. We too are ruthless when it comes to 30+ on big salary.

Giggs and scholes got a pay reduction with us.

This guys don't get it wrong because of an oversight on their part. It's usually because they are trying to find loopholes in the legislation to exploit and thus pay less tax. What happens is that the tax authorities then disputes this and there comes the problem.

That's why in Messi's case he was even found guilty and given a prison sentence. That's not just for mere oversight.

This man comes off as a whiny entitled little brat.
He makes more in a day than most make in a year, he should just go to PSG and stop complaining.

I’ll never understand why United fans get so angry at him when there are rumours of him leaving Madrid.. it’s pretty weird. 9 years later there are still mentions of the slavery comment he never even said

Anyway, Messi and Neymar are earning twice as much and if Griezmann stays at Atleti he’ll be earning more money than him. It’s not hard to see why he’d feel disrespected by this. The big difference here is that Messi had Barca by the balls since he run his contract down, Neymar had PSG by the balls since only that amount of money would make him play in France and Griezmann has Atleti by the balls since he has the release clause and might leave to Barca. Ronaldo is 33 and has 3 years left on his contract so Madrid are in a much more comfortable position.

What makes me think he might actually leave is that reportedly Perez promised him a 30 million contract over one year ago and he’s not kept his promise. Perez has been very keen on keeping their wage structure the way it is, missed out on Mbappe because of it last year and has Marcelo and most players on pretty low wages.

If he thinks that Ronaldo will be happy with not being payed what he’s worth while he saves 300 million for Neymar and spends loads of money on some brazilian teenagers then he’s very wrong. Ronaldo’s arguably their best player ever, they either make an effort to do what’s right by him or it might very easily come back to bite them in the ass. A Mbappe, Neymar, Ronaldo front 3 doesn’t sound bad.

Good post. I’d still have him at united instead of Lukaku or alongside him. He’s just a born goal scorer. A lot of negative jealousy going round when it comes to Ronaldo

Whenever Ronaldo says something regarding his future this place is on to it quickly. Even if alot of posters are saying 'heard it all before' it still shows interest in the subject because we all, including myself, view the updates.

I do think Madrid will keep him and squeeze every last bit of performance out of him until he is no longer a monster of a goalscorer. When that happens they will discard of him like they have with so many other club legends. Perez is an astute, hard nosed businessman who knows ronaldo's on field stock is declining. Madrid seem to have done very well their transfers over the past decade so maybe they will cash in on him now whilst he is still a player who can get into any team in world football.

 Did you ever have one bad word to say about Ronaldo?

You have to stay objective dude, fair enough if Perez promised him a contract he should keep his word. Completely right about that.

But I'd be very disappointed if we paid any part of his 28m fine from the taxes he forgot to pay.

Oh and by the way, Messi and Neymar don't earn double what he earns. Not even close.

Ronaldo’s getting 21 million, Messi 40 and Neymar 36. Griezmann’s new contract means he’ll be getting 23 million. I think even Alexis Sanchez is getting more than 21.

I am being objective. This has been going on for over a year, it’s not because of the tax case.

I see Madrid’s point of view too, he has 3 years on his contract and there’s no better place for him to be. I just think it’s pretty natural that this is happening, the weird thing would be if he wasn’t pushing for a new contract
