Cristiano Ronaldo - performances 2017/18

How's he been doing this season? Didn't see many glowing reviews in the first half of the season, but since the winter break he seems to be finding the back of the net very often. I thought he looked good against PSG midweek.

He's scoring. That's pretty much the biggest difference between now and the early first half of the season.

Back in scoring form at the right time, as usual. He'll probably end up top scorer for the season in the CL again.

He's been learning from Messi

That reminds me of Rooney's pass to Carrick when Howard Webb gave penalty, in United's 5-2 win vs Spurs in 2008-09 season, coming back from 0-2 down in 2nd half. That pass and penalty triggered the comeback.

HE'S AWFUL!!! LOST EVERYTHING.. SELL HIM TO CHINA!!!!

Same total goals for the season too but in less games...

He was awful for the first few months of the year though.

Hope he carries this form on to the World Cup and has a memorable last tournament (well, at least last WC) for Portugal.

Looks like he's back in time for the business end of the season.

Why did Benzema take the penalty btw? He was on for a hattrick.

That's his 28 goals in 30 matches this season, not bad for a 33 years old who is in deep decline.

So this is the third season where he is hitting form in the second half of the season right? Does he just not exert himself during the first half of the season knowing he needs to truly step up and deliver in the second half when it counts to get the Ballon d'Or?

Or perhaps it's because he is a 33 year old.

And? Well that's part of my question. Is it just about getting into a rhythm or just focusing on staying fit till the second half of the season and then push on from there. Is he playing it safe in the first half of the season to stay injury free?

I have no idea. He started the pre season later because of the confed cup, then got a lenghty ban, few niggling injuries, that coupled with being a 33 old played a part in his slow start i guess. Neither he or Madrid played well in the first part of the season either. He took a while to regain form.

Forgot about the confed cup. And the year before, he had the Euros. Maybe, it is deliberate to hit peak form at the right time. And, seems to be working well for him too. It will be unbelievable if he goes on another dismantling spree in the CL like last season.

People who say all he does is poach goals need to start watching the games.
He was fantastic today. But let's not get carried away though, there have been many games at the start of the season where he has been indeed just a poacher and didn't contribute much in the build-up.

I hope he can retain this form for the remaining games, we really need him.

Putting himself in the shop window for the Summer. We'll probably buy him, knowing us.

Even at the start of the season he had games where the only thing that let him down was his finishing and his overall play was very good. Then he also had games where the opposite was true. Both things have definitely improved and it's not the first or second time it's happening so I'm guessing it's all planned due to his age. A chance to go for a 3rd CL in a row and probably his last WC, it's a special season for him so hopefully he manages to keep this up.

He couldn't hit a cows backside with a banjo in the first half of the season. He wasn't just playing badly but he was missing chances that he'd put away in his sleep game after game.

Now he's slotting them in like normal. Mad how he's gone right into form so soon.

Just checked, he hit his 300th league goal for Madrid today as well. Mental.

I think he needs more time to get into rythm given he has been playing a lot of matches for both Real Madrid and Portugal, playing finals and all that; so all his seasons have been considerable longer than most players.

Even so I think he has done a great job at trying to stay as fit as possible but it's clear he can't maintain his top level the whole season so if it's something he's planning, or just happens that way, I'd say is best to hit peak in the second stage of the season (specially in cup competitions) so it's a matter of Real Madrid finding a player or system to replicate his output in the first half of the season.

He wants to win CL. To do that they need Benzema back to scoring. I just think he wanted to help him, and the team, with that.
When Messi hands out the penalties, it’s because he’s such a great guy who doesn’t care about personal glory.

When Ronaldo does it, there’s some kind of ulterior motive.
