Cristiano Ronaldo - Much Ado About Al Nassr

I'm confused.

Does Al Nassr has better facilities, chefs and stadium?

Will they play CL Knockout? What was the point of that interview then?

fecked us over too as he could have just went in the summer and got us a transfer fee, saved us wages/not fecked up Europa League and not attracted negative headlines for half the season following the club.

Personally I think he just couldn't accept his decline and why he acted so irrationally in that interview. I think he was expecting to get a CL offer after getting out of United but that obviously didn't come through. And that then leads us to where we are.

Probably as fair a guess as any. But where is he, exactly? Facing up to the fact it's over at the top level and taking the retirement money? Or convinced hes' still there, and the 200m proves it? Not that this matters materially in any way, but it does matter with regard to what to think about him.

Pele "sold out" to New York Cosmos at 35 y.o.
Beckenbauer to New York Cosmos at 32.
Cruyff to LA Aztec at 31.

Just saying.

Did they all storm off down the tunnel multiple times before calling a worldwide interview with Piers Morgan? he made out like United was beneath him and he wanted CL football

Too sign for these weeks later is embarrassing his whole interview with Piers is just completely cringe in retrospect

From what i read this team isn't even in the Asian champions league and haven't won a league title since 2018....

His downhill started when he didn't pay tax. Could've retired as Real Madrid legend but no "my ego is bigger than the club"
Perez is a fecking genius.
Perez is an unscrupulous character in some aspects but he deserves credit the way he runs that club, he makes it clear constantly that no one player is ever bigger than the club no matter how big their star, reputation or profile is.

Ronaldo asked for a pay increase at 33 after their 3rd CL in a row and he got told to feck off, arguably Madrid's greatest player ever at the peak of his leverage. They only offer 30 years olds rolling 1 year deals and reassess whether to offer another after each season. Doesn't matter if you've won 5 CL's or B'Dors like Benzema or Modric, everyone gets the same treatment no matter what.

I'm assuming he's just accepted what everyone else knows - that he's finished as a top level player. This move doesn't bother me much, he's pushing 38 in about a month's time, it's expected it has to come to an end. He's had a wonderful career and when everything setlles after some time he will be remembered for that.

You're just making vague comparisons with a time in football that was nothing like what it is today.

Xavi at 35 moved to Al Sadd
Iniesta at 34 played for Vissel Kobe.

Messi will probably play in Miami soon.

I'm not sure they moved there following their football passion.

The wanting Champions League football part was true. The problem he has was that no CL clubs wanted him, last summer or this winter, so he's given up and has taken the money instead.

It was a diva rant. Some of them were ugly truths, like exposing the Glazers and the way they've runthe club since 08/09

Well, what exactly did he "expose"? He didn't say anything that hasn't been said a thousand times before by pundits, fans and analysts, and about which there would probably be a near total consensus in the global football expertise. What is more, if he paid any attention whatsoever, he would or should have known all of these things before he signed for United. They are obvious to anyone who follows football, and have been for a long time. He did not add anything of note to it with those comments. I have to say my immediate thoughts when reading those were that they seemed a trite, superfluous and rather feeble restatement of commonplaces, with a rather obvious overtone of currying favor with fans. If he's so worried about how the Glazers run the club, then why did he sign in the first place. It's not like this only became visible in 2021.

In fairness to Xavi, he took that job in agreement that he would also begin his coaching badges at the club. It worked out quite well for him in the end.

my champions league girlfriend went to another school.

I hope so, for his and everyone's sake. But it's a bit difficult to ignore that pretty much everything he's said and done over the past couple of months points in the opposite direction. It's possible that the PM interview, the termination of his United contract and his pouting when benched both for United and Portugal was all a charade to preserve his image even as he tried to get out of a situation where he knew he was failing, but I don't know....

Will be hilarious if he doesn't score in his first dozen games or something.

I am sure that if that was the case, there would something similar to the part of the red sea (by the opponents -- ''for the greater good so it promotes the League') and he walks with the ball into the goal himself.

I assume that FFP doesnt apply to Al Nassar and the Saudi Pro League? Does it apply to the Asian Champion's league?

That’s what you get when you think you’re untouchable. Now you’re playing with the little boys, congratulations Ronaldo.
The paycheck doesn’t matter , he can live through 9 lives with the money he has already amassed in his life
The guy probably thinks he is immortal, so money is still useful.

So he went with all that trouble with us for that?

Well congrats on being wealthiest footballer on the planet, but understandably this age, money maybe a more important factor. But still, it’s easily worst career decision ever

He could have stay with us until end of season, keep his legacy here with more decency, then move to Saudi Arabia for more money.

He really fecked up badly with the interview.

None of what you said is true though.

Again Messi agreed to half his salary, but Spanish law doesn't allow for that, so they couldn't register him.

You cannot, as an employer in Spain give lower than 50%, and Messi agreed to 50% but Barca couldn't even register him because of ther financial issues.

possibly re-Spanish law, but the fact remains he agreed a renewal until he was 39, so effectively for 2 or 3 years as “ambassador” (doing shag all, sitting on the stands) he’d make up the wage he kindly “reduced”

there is ways around this. Could have agreed a 1 year extension, then half it again following year and so on. There is always away around things if parties can agree on it. It still may have not worked out, but it still showed that he wanted his fair share regardless of Barcas predicament.

egos still prevail for both Messi and more evident in the further down the decline road of Ronaldo.

I think his thoughts were that a UCL club will pick him up when he's a free agent. But even Frankfurt seemingly turned him down. Its such a terrible way to end a fantastic career.

That interview was a horrific decision and I'm surprised his PR team allowed it to happen.

Fair enough, he chose money. Let's forget about this guy now.

Imagine walking out of United to join these camel shaggers ?
How many racist comments are you gonna say ya fkn moron. Ronnie is a feckn idiot, joined a nothing league because no one wanted him which is funny enough but then you add your stupid ass tripe to it.

Strange move tbh. It’s not like he’s going to stop earn money after his career. Just look at Beckham. Ronaldo wants more cash that’s clear.

Money > Legacy.

1. He burned his bridge with us for that. Could have stay with us until end of season to move for money.
2. Now he is gone, Messi is going to take all his records. His legacy will be badly hurt in few years time too.

I assume that FFP doesnt apply to Al Nassar and the Saudi Pro League? Does it apply to the Asian Champion's league?

It doesn't, and this club didn't qualify for it this season. They want to win the league and qualify for next year's ACL... (They can do that also by winning the Cup... They have a 1/4 final and a potential semi-final at home against easier teams... The final should they make it, would bring them their first top opposition)

But the club is only paying a third of Ronaldo's 200M deal (Probably still more than their entire wage bill)... But they will be subsidized by the state to make that work.

Somebody needs to tell Cristiano that the only thing you can't get back in life is time. When you are already worth 500Millions and have plenty of ways to keep making more, you shouldn't throw 1-2 years of your life away in Saudi Arabia for no other reason than moar money. It is just plain idiotic. Maybe he should get better life coaches than Jordan fecking Peterson and get on with his life.
I agree with everything that you just said but I even doubt Peterson gave him that advice. Reeks of his fellow football enthusiast Piers Morgan and Mendes.

Fair enough and understand your situation, I am in similar position where I could earn quite a bit more in a different country but I have young kids and settled where I am and wouldn't break that up for it. I would consider it in the future when I'm closer to retirement, so I can retire early, there's no way I want to be working into my late 50s.

But if I was offered a life changing salary now I would be on the first plane out of here.

However, this is a different situation to a professional footballer who has a limited playing career and is consistently on the move.
I was commenting on your general point, I fully understand that for someone with Ronaldo's mindset this move makes sense. He's probably vying for some record like being the wealthiest sportsman ever or along those lines.

Would you go for 1 million? 10 million? Everyone has a number. They just haven't found yours yet.
I'd go for far less than that. 500k is 10x more my lifelong earnings (I started my career late and Portugal is a poor country).

I very much doubt I'd go for 300 million if I already had 500. But then who the feck knows what kind of person I would be if I had 500 million. That's an hypothetical so distant from reality that it makes no sense to wonder about it.

  1. Ask to leave in the summer for CL football
  2. Miss pre season
  3. Return to the club because no CL club made an offer
  4. Get dropped because you aren't playing well
  5. Make an interview accusing the manager of being disrespectful to drop you
  6. Get your contract terminated
  7. Get dropped during the WC by a different manager
  8. Fail to find another club at the top level
  9. Sign for a club outside the top level
What a massive miscalculation has this year been for him on all levels. There's nothing wrong with going after money at the end of your career, but he made a complete tit out of himself when he could've actually finished the season with a big club on big wages and with a bit of grace. His massive ego fecked him up big time.
Exactly, he could have avoided the first 8 steps of humiliating himself, but instead stay with us until end of season, before moving out to lower level club for more money.

Yes. I've never said that Xavi's not entitled to do what's best to his career. Not even when he got paid to promote Qatar before WC.

Let's see who he says disrespects him next. Try complaining against Saudi royalty. That should be fun to watch. Good riddance.
