Cristiano Ronaldo - Much Ado About Al Nassr

I mean I'd happily embarrass myself for 500m over a couple of years, he basically is retired that's what the Saudi league is, like people who went to mls or China, but who the feck would turn down that kinda money to play an extra couple of years
Yeah true. But like he’s already loaded! Surely ending a great career gracefully counts for something?

If he continues to be this shit then at which point does he stop being the "super elite goat" at Al Nassr and simply becomes just an old man who is frequently benched for someone better? Even to the point where he has feck all sway with the club because nobody gives a shit about him anymore.

Right now everyone is going to Mrsool Park in Riyadh to see the Famous Ronaldo show, and when they get there it's just some fat dolphin in a paddling pool. Eventually people are going to lose interest in the novelty of Ronaldo playing in their league and move on. The nutjobs online will be the only ones checking in to see how he's doing. Hell, right now I'm only doing it because a month ago he was out player, and I'm bored of it already.

Even if he goes on an explosive run of ten hat trick games in a row it'll mean feck all. He's still in an amateur league.

Yeah absolutely nothing to do with bringing in a top manager instead of the guy who was at lokomotiv Moscow, and spending £250m, it was benching Ronaldo. fecking hell, some people's agenda shines through in every post, same with his time at juventus people say he made them worse, yet when he left and they replaced him with a brand new £70m highly rated striker they score far less goals, almost as if the guy who scored 100 in 3 years wasn't the problem. I really think we'd have been able to get another year out of him, but playing him so uch at the age of 37 in the Premier league, combined with his personal circumstances absolutely finished him
It was the Juventus fan who said Ronaldo made them worse. They even warned us that Ronaldo was done and thanked us for taking him.

Yes we bought some new players but the difference was bencing Ronaldo. Football is a team game and Ronaldo is not a team player. He couldn't do what ten Hag wanted from our striker position. We played and have been playing so much better without him. Like not just a little but better by alot.

Do you watch Ronaldo at the world cup? He is so done as a top player. He looked so lost out there. And now at SA he has been embarrassing so far. How ETH handled the Ronaldo situation was brilliant. I've never seen a player self destruct the way Ronaldo did. So glad his toxicity is as far away from us as possible.

Serves him right that prick Ronaldo.

Anyway, has luckyscout seen Rimaldo's legendary post in here?

Not against 500m, particularly with no taxes in Saudi. He could buy himself a lower table premier league club off this one contract if he wanted to. Plus I get the idea he's the kinda guy who won't know what to do with himself when he actually retires, semi retirement for that kind of enormous contract has to be much more appealing

This is nonsense, by far the biggest difference from last season is having casemiro in centre mid. Ronaldo was clearly done this season, but I don't think martial or weghorst up front is some mega improvement. Rashford actually looking like he can play football again is a big difference, and I know you might blame Ronaldo for his loss of form, but at times he genuinely couldn't beat a man, had an atrocious touch and couldn't shoot. Night and day from the player this year.

If we'd had casemiro and ten hag last year, we'd have seen a much better Ronaldo, he still managed 18 league goals last year. But we played him way too much and it accelerated his downfall, even Zidane 5 years ago knew to manage his minutes.

Also, I do think people underestimate the damage losing his son did to him. I know if one of my friends lost their child, I probably would give them far more leeway in terms of the behaviour over the next year or two

Saudi has income tax now they have for a few years, and VAT.

For non-saudi nationals it's 20% I believe but I'm not sure where it applies its net adjusted profit and I'm not sure if that's the entire salary or where it applies, for Saudi nationals its 0%.

I only know that because I was in the gulf until a year ago, there's definitely taxes.

Not just 2nd but the closest points difference since Ferguson retired, and immediately had us plummet to 6th while putting up the lowest points total in 30 years. And the team magically improved again this year after he was benched! Funny how that works, isn't it? :D

"closes points difference" you make it sound like it was 2 or 3 points. It was a whopping 12 points. Hardly close to winning a title or anything.

While Ronaldo leaving solved a lot of the issues in the team, he was definitely not the reason Ole failed miserably and got sacked by the end with Ralf following the same misery.

The current United side is far better than anything we put on during that 2nd spot season, and looks to be built on better foundation than this shaky team.

I was only going off what I'd heard if that's true then fair enoug he'd have to make do with 400m post tax. Although I imagine they might have been willing to waive it for Ronaldo, if they're wanting him as a brand ambassador to try and get the world cup of 2030

He wasn't the reason but he was part of it, as a team United had to chnage how they played to accommodate him, he held up Greenwood's progress though of course that's moot now, retrospectively it was a mistake to bring him back IMO

Ronaldo fecked himself up completely. He ruined the end of his career with no way to return. He was declining and passing through a period of awful form. He should have played it wisely and stayed on the bench of United while taking a senior figure among the team and as it went on I had no doubt he would have been of help either from the bench or even as a starter in some games from point to point. He needed to kill his ego and accept his decline and that he's still playing at a big club whose fans used to adore him.

But no, he let his ego kill him instead. He threw all his cards without any guarantee, asked to leave, acted like a prick and finished it off with that ridiculous interview. His ego made him believe he would get a new contract at any other big club once he left United. He didn't realize with his current form and salary, United was his best shot to stay relevant at top level, just by accepting to downgrade his role to a squad player and senior figure rather than the main man of the team.

Terminating his contract with United, finding no other clubs interested and ending up in Saudi League killed any chance for him to finish his career respectfully.

What a shame. For such a great player, he has the mindset of literally a 10 years old baby. A proof that not all successful people are actually mature or intelligent enough to know what's best for them.

His agent should also be blamed for that debacle because if the player is a crybaby, it's his agent's job to slap him to wake him the feck up.

It being a mistake doesn't mean he was the reason why Ole and Ralf produced this godawful season. Many of us who used to criticize Ole regularly despite his fans not liking it saw it coming miles away. It was just not sustainable. The collapse was bound to happen.

Him leaving solved a lot of issues in the dressing room, there's no doubt about it, but the United side he joined wasn't really good as some of you are claiming to be.

Ole's United was always a one bad result away from collapsing almost all the time.

Can't argue with much of this

Or maybe the mindset of someone who lost their infant son about 6 months prior? Given throughout the rest of his career he very rarely had issues with anyone else in the squad and was always described as a consumate professional, you don't think his bizarre behaviour over the last year or so could be linked to the death of his child?

It could quite possibly be the case and TBH someone should probably have told him to stay away from football, especially after missing pre-season

Curious also. Ronaldo should have said sorry for doing that interview with that gobshite Morgan and accept he's a squad player whereby he could have featured in the cup games.

Edit* rimaldo has since replied, a deluded fanboy it seems and no more needs to be said there.
lads it’s rimaldo

I'm surprised so many people here think he screwed himself in some way because of where he's ended up. I don't like him, but he had no interest in being a squad player in anything United were doing, cup run or CL qualification or otherwise. From what we've heard his order of preference was:

Any CL club other than United > Sellout to the highest bidder >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. United

Given that no CL clubs were interested he got what he considered the next best thing. IMO we should count our lucky stars he didn't want to be here in any capacity. Even putting aside his off the pitch antics, we looked worse for having him in the team every fecking time.

so if he’s stinking the place out then he’s a fat dolphin, if he’s putting in worldies then it’s because he’s playing in a fat dolphin. did you ever stop and think maybe we’re the fat dolphins in all of this? just swimming around, firing turd out of our blowholes.

where to start? sorry for forcing the undisputed goat out of the door by not picking him?

sorry for playing stupid mind games and distracting ronaldo from his world cup, forcing his performances to drop a few notches (he’s only human) and allowing that worm messi to sneak in and win an undeserving crown. well done ten hag, ruining the last world cup that actually matters. they’re all irrelevant now without ronaldo.

sorry for giving the worm fanboys ammunition to claim their steroid team needer is the best of all time (news flash, he’s closer to the worst (gary neville.))

sorry for being jealous of ronaldo’s fashion sense and copying his style in that chess advert with the worm and wearing turtle necks the whole time.

sorry for forcing ronaldo to do an interview like a captive, detailing just how bad things are under ten hag and then using his media pull and illuminati ties to twist every word and make ronaldo seem like the bad guy.

ten hag never even came out and said ronaldo was the best ever. he never came out and criticised the worm. he never once played ronaldo in a way that meant he could score the goals he deserved.

imagine having to go back to your family after a long day and tell them you didn’t score today because a man with no hair was jealous of your hair and turtle neck? imagine going to the office and not being able to siuuu every time an excel formula didn’t return a hashtag error. imagine coming home to your wife and breaking down in tears when she asked you how your day was because a bald man didn’t let you siuuu on your lunch break? “sorry for what?” he says. jeez.

Love Rimmers, hate football. 15 years of unrecognised brilliance.

He's proving that he's able to muck up not just in the Europa League, but also in Saudi Arabia.

That said, I'll hold off judgment till he has a run of games.

let’s hope he finds his feet there before he ends up getting one chopped off for stealing a living.

He'd seen in the summer that no Champions League club was interested though. I guess maybe he gambled on having a blinding world cup and lining up suitors, but if so, that was a crazy gamble, albeit no crazier than doing that interview.

the most annoying part is if ten hag could swallow his pride and pick up the phone and tell ronaldo he’s sorry, i think ronaldo would walk away from the middle east and come back home.

Is that you Piers?

He must have really hated being a squad player or hated Ten Hag or the Saudi offer was just too tempting. He would have actually played a good number of games with Martial always injured. I'm glad he's gone though

And the "whopping 12 points" was the closest we have been since Ferguson retired. The next season's points total was the lowest in 30 years. Which part of that are you disputing?

The current squad wouldn't be performing at the same level if we had to shoehorn him in every starting lineup.

This is why I love the caf.

I would genuinely like to know what they think of all this in South Africa..
Did they expect a washed up player and are just happy to see the big name? Or did they expect someone who could still play and now feel cheated?

they’re too busy eating biltong and waving about their diplomatic immunity to care.

Wow I thought he was wumming

i don’t think it’s wumming to believe that if the hag was the manager he says he is, then why didn’t he set the team up in a way that meant ronaldo scored more goals? even if that meant we scored less goals as a team and drew/lost more games.
