Looks like he did indeed give a speech to the team last night. Imagine the effect of having him around for the younger lads, and even the older ones for what it's worth

I'm surprised they're not doing miles better since they got rid of the worst signing in history, according to Guardian journalist and tactical expert Jonathan Wilson.

It's almost like... he was talking out of his fecking arse.

That really showed he is just a fanboy and not much else.

I was slightly taken aback when Ronaldo said he was super nervous about the game today despite everything he's done in football. That was a really telling comment. The ABU saltiness is just simply glorious. Today could not have gone any better.

Same. It’s unusual to see any mental weakness in Cristiano, but then it’s not a weakness because he just eats up the pressure and delivers, always, like an absolute boss.

Unreal to see him in the red shirt again today. He rose to the occasion.

Casually on my way to SIIIIIIIIIIIIU

It's a daft thing, but what I'm really liking about the SIIIUUU thing is that the crowd noise is really reminiscent of how Old Trafford used to sound whenever Ruud scored. If you don't know what's going on, it almost sounds like everyone is booing!

Dare I say, all Guardian writers are hacks. I don't think there's anybody here who takes it seriousky.

What was the stadium like today? As good an atmosphere as expected?

I was watching it on TV and I don’t think I’ve ever heard a football game that loud for the WHOLE game at Old Trafford and I’ve been watching them on tv for close to 25 years. I wouldn’t be surprised if they cause a mini mini earthquake like the one that was caused in Seattle by fans during an NFL game.

He looks sooo much better in United red. Always thought that looking at old clips, and now with those retro style socks it's mint

The atmosphere was absolutely electric. I’ve never seen the stadium collectively in such awe of a player and in such expectation. The explosion of noise for each of the goals was incredible. Something I really didn’t want to miss.

Viva Ronaldo was being sung everywhere in and outside of the stadium, up the streets on the way back to the car, in both service stations I stopped off at on the way back down the M6
Never seen anything like it, just adoration.

I was also surprised by this admission. It was a nice human moment.

The switch in energy and passion for his second celebration was amazing. His first goal celebration was just a smile, as if there's no real intent or desire. It was as if he's accomplished everything and that it was just a nice moment.

Second goal comes and the angry look, the desire and fire within, the absolute dedication and hunger. That was Ronaldo wanting to prove something.

We need to come up with a new chant for him. I know he has two so far but another one would be nice. How do these lyrics come about anyway? Like who is responsible?

I heard one sung a few times coming across on the TV today, a play on "This is how it feels to be City / this is how it feels to be small" with the twist being "you signed ______ we signed Cristiano, Cristianooo" which I thought was clever, but I couldn't make out who the name of the City player was, I am guessing Grealish?

I'm sure I also heard them singing "Come to see Ronaldo. You only come to see Ronaldo...." which also works.

I. Think it's as simple as the first goal was an easy tap in so he smiled about it. 2nd goal took some skill

On the topic of songs, I personally love the "he plays on the left, he plays on the right" song. Brings back all the memories. Did we come up with that post Euro 2004, because that "makes England look shite" line was spot on.

It’s probably just a variation on this:

This is how it feels to be City, This is how it feels to be small, You sign Phil Jones, We sign Kun Aguero, Kun Aguero, Kun Aguero...

Not sure quite how Grealish fits maybe it’s a nickname of his. You sign floppy hairstyle and we sign Christiano Dunno maybe someone who was at the game today can shed some light. They’re always much easier to make out when you’re in the stands.

I think Ronaldo could see what was coming with Juve.
And to think there were reputable pundits and journalists who were saying he made them worse

In all seriousness, Juve signing Ronaldo did mean they had to make some changes to the way they play, but they completely failed to surround him with creative players. They wouldn't have been anywhere near the top four without his goals last season, and even with Allegri back they'll struggle to do so again this year.

He should stick to talking about antiquated WM formations and half backs from the pre WWII era.

I’m amazed at how much he’s improved. 06/07 he had great skills and in 07/08 he became more mechanical and just focused on goals, he really didn’t help us that mich defensively and generally his link up play was okay.

Now, I thought yesterday he pressed, his link up play was just so relevant, precise and meaningful and he used his skill where necessary, I’m not judging him on this game but if I were to I would say he’s improved since he left and looks better, I didn’t realise how good/ better he is.

I’m shocked.

Yea I thought that I remember when ruud first scored or one of his first goals and one of our players in his ear telling him what the crouwere doing.

It was something like you signed paedos, we signed cristiano. it had an edge to it

Love this! Wish I could have been there
