On what planet did he do better than Zlatan who actually won us trophies man?
Zlatan was absolutely miles better, and I thought Ronaldo did well last season. Scored better goals, more important goals, of his 28 goals in 2016-17 only 3 were pens & he won us trophies.
You need to remember Zlatan had Mourinho (who also gets too much disrespect). Ronaldo had Ole and Rangnick

It actually seems like we told him he could go find a club in the Summer, but he couldn't find one that fancied it and that he fancied back.
I find it hard to believe Ronaldo couldn't find a club. I think its probably we wanted to make something off the deal and it didn't happen to our terms. So he got pissed off and decided to slag the entire club off which resulted in this termination

He is a legend.

At the time it looked like we were going to be bulldozed into oblivion by Chelsea's Mourinho team but Ronaldo turned from a show trick pony into an absolute machine of a footballer. My best moment as a United fan was his goal for the win at Fulham in 2006. Ran basically from the half way line at the 89th minute and somehow turned it into a goal by himself.

He has a big ego of himself and its obvious to anyone that trying to turn him into this super sub who comes on at the 89th minute will result in him throwing temper tantrums. Erik (or most likely the club aka Glazers) have handled this in a bizarre way in my view. The end result was right Ronaldo had to go but it should have been done last summer when we hired a coach who is focused on high pressing and winning the ball back.

It seems like we forced him to stay over the summer and he has decided to burn all bridges to get out.
Agreed with that.

I don’t think the club/ETH has handle the whole thing in the best possible way, even though there’s nothing really wrong I could see from their part. But there’s no defending on Ronaldo behaviour too, he simply just wants out and would do anything he could to get out. IMO we should have let him go in the summer instead. I know people would say no one wants him, but it surely didn’t help the case when the club has been speaking publicly every time that he isn’t for sale.

Now we are in the awkward position of having burn the bridge with the GOAT/most followed person in the world, who has achieved many great things with our club in the past (even though people here may not see him as a legend). Are there any other club who’s has been in similar kind of situation before?

He got pissed off that ETH told him he wasn’t a guaranteed starter, clearly. This was ever about switching clubs, it was about playing every game.

Whatever the excuse but CR has a contract with the club and he was paid very well for it as well. If the club demanded him to stay last summer and play as a sub then he shall take it as a pro. For all the talks about his love for United and its fans, his action doesn't look like one, not even a bit.

Also this is something for CR7 backers to keep in mind, anyone who try to publicly badmouthing their employer the way Cristiano did, will be fired in no time and might actually found harsher treatment as well. Whether the critics are the truth or not is another matter but you just don't go public with such matters.

It is up to the manager, ETH to decide who to start and bench. CR was paid to play for United and shall act like one. Sadly it has came to this. Good riddance but now i am not sure what to do with my Ronaldo 7 jersey.

Regarding Keane blindly defending him, when he goes on about what a goal machine he is, does anyone actually say 3 goals in 16 games to him? He isn't a goal machine anymore and he can't be carried.

No, must be changed to last season at all times to fit the narrative.

Also how he needs a CL club, despite the fact he had 6 big chances missed in the Europa League group stages and cost United topping the group. Something Piers Morgan always conveniently forgets.

Scoring goals in 12 of 30 matches doesn't exactly fit the narrative either.

Can't believe anyone criticizing EtH for this. He has handled him brilliantly - sucking up to him would have caused way more harm to our progress than making him a backup player.

Whether the Glazers intended to or not, they succeeded in wiping Ronaldo from the news cycle

Did you start following United this summer? No good performances?? he was the third highest goalscorer in the league, playing in the worst United team I have ever seen. He was the only reason we got out of the group stages of the CL. Did you see the Totenham game last season? At least make an attempt to be realistic in your posts, might lend some credence to them.
Have you heard of hyperbole? Yes he had some good games, but the reason we were bad last season was because of Ronaldo. The whole team morphed to form around him. When you consider the total contribution of the negatives and the positives he brought, it was overwhelmingly negative. We were a much better TEAM without him.

He might have been the 3rd highest scorer but we scored FEWER goals than the year before. 73 league goals without, 57 with. Nuff said.

I agree, like Ruud all over again. We were more fluid when he left. Same with Ronaldo

I think this is the most likely reason for the whole situation here. This aligns with both side of the story and the whole timeline too.

April/May - it’s already clear at that point we won’t have CL football next season. Should Ronaldo decide to leave for CL, he should have already requested for a move at this point

July - Ronaldo has reported requested for a move for CL football and then went missing the whole preseasons (for family reason). But why leave it this late? Could it be because ETH has already talked to Ronaldo and couldn’t guarantee him as starter?

July/Aug - Club has repeatedly announced Ronaldo is not for sell, despite lack of serious interest from any takers. ETH emphasised Ronaldo is key part of his plan.

Nov - Ronaldo finally went out public against the club/manager. His main complaint being the manager not respecting him and bullshiting him while not letting him playing a bigger starting role this season. He also said he didn’t really want to leave Man Utd in summer, despite “several” clubs shown interest for him.

Whether he was angry or not did not give him the right to slag off the club, the moment he did that I was done with him. Nobody is bigger than The Club, even one so badly run as ours has been.

Good for us and good for him from a footballing perspective and every other perspective.

He's become an extremely selfabsorbed and unlikable character though. That interview is self-centered narcissist stuff at Trump level. Everyone else is allways to blame for absolutely everything 100% of the time and zero self insight. You need a bucket to watch the whole thing.

Don't be so gullible. It's not even the same angle, side or body shape, his legs are in completely different positions. It's just an artists rendering of him scoring a header.
It is the goal against United in 2012/2013, that angle is from the corner flag. Use google image and you will find it.

Anyone heard from @Cal?

Hope he's alright now that his idol has left the club.
Why wouldn't I be?

He left years ago when he was the best player in the world, this time it doesn't hurt (if anything, it's a relief for all concerned we don't need everything to be about him every week anymore).

Well for someone who lives and breathes Cristiano, I was worried how you'll take his exit.

But fair play to you sir for putting on brave face!

Here's my latest conspiracy theory:

Portugal will win the WC. One day later Ronaldo will annouce he's signing for Al-Hilal.

Connect the dots

Thinking he's the best player ever is an opinion shared by many, hardly equates to "lives and breathes" Cristiano.

Remember as well there was the whole spin from Ronaldo's camp that he was disgruntled about our transfer strategy. Conveniently this was never mentioned again when we finished the transfer window quite strongly.
