Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

The club has been covering Ronaldo's ass for months now, from his trip to Portugal before the derby to his absence during preseason because of "personal reasons" and now this.

Anthony Martial, Diogo Dalot, David De Gea and Bruno Fernandes also all left early by the way.

Tells you it's more of a cultural thing that a Ronaldo thing but, hey, the narrative.

That’s why he needs to go. They was fine on tour before the Alpha came back.

They were in the match day squad? I actually don't know.
They weren’t no. Which is why it’s always been a false equivalence. They were spectators. I can see why they’d think they could leave early without permission - not everyone who played the day before was even there which suggests it was voluntary. I’m struggling to see why someone part of the squad who actually played in the game thought he could feck off early without permission.

Symptomatic of a group of spoiled twats who run the roost.

Ten Hag should be creating a strict team ethos. Champions League final or pre-season against Woking. Behave the fecking same.

It's pretty clear Ten Hag is including them so the focus isn't fully on the most professional player ever again.

Uh, no, the "theory" would be that he assumed it would be obvious to the players that you don't leave in the middle of a game, and when some of them did it anyway, he called them out for it.
So why are people blaming Ronaldo when the manager made assumptions and didn't make his requirements clear?

Anyway, it's a problem for Ten Hag imo. He's not experienced the Utd fishbowl. This will be a week long press event.

I mean, to be fair, we had Pogba last season. It's very hard to say that Ronaldo was more toxic than Pogba. Not justifying Ronaldo in any way but I wouldn't want Pogba to lose his crown as king of the douches.
He spent a third of the season in dubai and was never at the center of a dressing room split. Ronaldo was also at the center of he captaincy controversy. It's not just possible he's more toxic it's actually likely.

Hard to draw that parallel. Not going to leave early when they're in Australia and besides they were in the Directors box. Ronaldo knew it didnt look good. It's a friendly but clearly a manager like EtH wouldnt permit it, though we don't know whether that was made clear to the players by EtH prior to the game.

  Are you on smth?

Ten Hag is a new manager to Utd. More experienced managers than him have been tripped up by offhand remarks make to their home press*. (ditto with players making offhand remarks to their home press)
*This is my assumption since I don't suppose he told everyone to stay till the end and they left anyway.

But keep going........

Absolutely irresponsible behavior from Ronaldo if ETH didn't allow him to leave. He might stay with us for the next season, and from a football standpoint I think it would be better if he does, but behavior like this shouldn't be tolerated, not one bit. He knows there's a magnifying glass on all his actions at the moment and irresponsibly he added it to the narrative.

I would just get rid to any club that would take him on a free.

You’d think if you’ve just returned under a new manager and new coaches. You’d want to impress with your attitude and application but to just leave early without permission is so disrespectful.

It’s the sort of behaviour which is just harmful to the culture that the manager and coaching staff are trying to create.

So it turns out Ronaldo was a bell end after all but his defenders will still deny it.

Yeah we saw that last season with he who shall not be named. Club tells Lingard he can have time off if he needs it, coach says player wasn't available, player kicks off.

Worrying for the suits and the coach to seemingly be on different pages. Even now.

Yeah that's my takeaway as well...I think (more hope than facts) it has improved in the last few months, but the club is still not in unison from top to bottom.

... because people believe ETH is right in thinking it should be obvious to all professionals that you don't leave the stadium in the middle of a game you participated in?

So, now his story is that Ronnie wants to stay - but United "privately" want him out?

How feckin' stupid does this twat think people are?

(Then again, I suppose at this point he can post whatever he likes - he'll still get the clicks, which is all he cares about.)

I can't remember which one but I heard on a podcast a few weeks ago that the club privately wanted him gone so he's referring to a rumour rather than making something up to cover his ass.

Yes, but he was the only one in the match day squad.

Hey - he had to beat traffic.

Plus, ETH didn't give him a written order not to leave, so how was The Most Professional Human Being Ever (TM) supposed to know?

1.Goals bump up the rating significantly regardless of the rest of the performance and he scores lots.

2. We probably define bossing the game differently. Ronaldo has always been an impact player for me.

3. I'm not comparing.

Anyway, let's agree to disagree.
Just one last thing, I don’t necessarily agree goal would bump up rating significantly to the extent which overshadow his actual performance during his peak.

You just have to see his avg rating prior, as compared to his average rating during his 30s poacher version, with similar goal numbers, to see the difference.

For example:

Ronaldo peak years as dominating all round attacker:

09-10: 33 goals / 8.54 rating
10-11: 53 goals / 8.35 rating
11-12: 60 goals / 8.28 rating
12-13: 55 goals / 8.15 rating
13-14: 51 goals / 8.49 rating
14-15: 61 goals / 8.48 rating

(note I don’t have his rating during his Man Utd peak years from 06-09, would expect somewhere around 8.50 rating in average, so that’s nearly a decade of up to around nearly 8.30-8.50 avg rating, which is unseen from any other players except Messi)

Ronaldo as poacher during his 30s:

15-16: 51 goals / 7.99 rating
16-17: 42 goals / 7.61 rating
17-18: 44 goals / 7.94 rating
18-19: 28 goals / 7.68 rating
19-20: 37 goals / 7.82 rating
20-21: 36 goals / 7.61 rating

You can see there’s clear drop in performance (avg rating) even when he is still scoring good numbers in general after his enter his 30s.

Now let’s compare with other top scorer in the game:

Lewandowski:

18-19: 40 goals / 7.65 rating
19-20: 55 goals / 8.13 rating
20-21: 48 goals / 8.07 rating
21-22: 50 goals / 7.89 rating

Haaland:

19-20: 42 goals / 7.55 rating
20-21: 41 goals / 7.63 rating
21-22: 29 goals / 7.45 rating

It’s clear goals alone didn’t really bump up their rating significantly, to similar extent as Ronaldo during his peak years. There’s certainly some major difference over their performances not based on goals alone.

Shite take

That's convenient, I guess: referring to a rumour that makes no sense at all - to cover his ass.

But, but, total professional, great influence on the dressing room??

This is clearly all strategy for getting the move away he wants. Same with the talk with ETH during the match where he looked disinterested.

Where have all the ardent Ronaldo defenders gone? They spent such a long time in this thread calling out his 'haters' and downplaying his toxic behaviour. Unusual that they all appear to be missing in action.

Some of you guys are hilarious. You don’t want him in the team yet are crying that he wants leave.
Didn’t want him to sign for City last season yet are mad that our club signed him and stopped that from happening.

With Ronaldo it’s always be damned if you do or be damned if you don’t.

If he stays and is professional and gets on with it, I’m 100% sure there’ll be something else that has people foaming at the mouth about him.
But but but Gaz on twitter said he left without authorisation.
Dalot was also in the picture....weird how the focus is only on Ronaldo
You guys are over-analysing this to hell. I can almost guarantee Ronaldo was only going to play 45mins regardless. Even ETH himself said that he didn’t think he was as up to speed as the others and wasn’t sure how long he could last days before the game.
He’s literally left games early during his time at Madrid too for one reason or another and wasn’t the only player to do so. This is a nothing story.
Just going to leave this here. Be interested to hear your views.

Hard to draw that parallel. Not going to leave early when they're in Australia and besides they were in the Directors box. Ronaldo knew it didnt look good. True.. but they turned up atleast.

As for the directors box. I get it with regards to them.. however did they turn up to just watch Ronaldo then? As they seemed to leave with him? Or again is that just fabricated as they all left at different times?

I haven’t looked into it that deep. Eitherway he has his WWE type klick and it needs breaking up.

Unbelievable. Shocking for ETH to assume his players would remain in the building for a whole match.

Wait there are still some on here defending Ronaldo after all this, what? :wenger:
Ronaldo could take a dump in their living room and they’ll find a way to justify it.
Hadn’t seen a player consistently disrespecting a club like that in a while, let alone the club that made him, ridiculous.

fecking get rid of him already. All was looking bright and back on track until he got back involved. Get rid of him and move on as a club. He isnt even good anymore, and I don't think Ten Hag wants him here either.

They seemed to leave at the same time. I'm just looking forward to the season starting now. This shit is exhausting.

Get rid?
