Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

I never get what the PR people exactly do at United or for United players. Why create the drama? If Ronaldo wanted out could they not spin it? Like firstly dont say you want to leave until you have somewhere to go and then give a nice statement. Ronaldo could have done a video message to the fans. Something like - "Guys I love you all. I wanted so much to come back and pay for United. But I am 38 and I only have a couple of seasons left and I hope you will forgive me but even though it hurts I want to end my career in the champions league. I hope you can forgive me... yada yada yada. ' I think most of the fans would respect that? no?

Met him before the game yesterday, my kids were buzzing, I asked him if he was staying while he signed my kids shirt and he smirked. He also got a very mixed reaction at the game, and I think if there wasn't so many kids and families at the game the boo's would have been much louder.

I really can't see him getting booed.

Neither can I. Remember the reception he got when he came back to OT with Real Madrid, even after knocking us out of the Champions League.

Yep, I've personally got no interest in booing him.

Heroes reception? Hopefully not, should just be indifference. Either stay and be up for it, or naff off ASAP.

I thought he played alot in a deeper role yesterday and was receiving the ball most of time in middle of pitch. I know could be as a false 9 but will ETH change styles for both him and Martial.

He hasn't actually said that he wants to move, though.

And it would look...I dunno, silly if he posted a video of the sort you suggest where he said "hey, I love you all but I'm 100 years old - but with great abs - so I have to whore myself out as best I can".

Bottom line - he wants out but there are no takers. Neither United nor him can go out officially with anything - because there isn't anything.

You can't see him getting booed?! I was at the game yesterday and he was booed.

And yesterdays crowd wasn't the usual crowd. It was very family friendly, there were tonnes of local schools there.

You sure it wasn't 'SIIIUUU' or some bollocks.

Insert Simpsons meme here etc...

That's what I suggested yesterday.

I don't think it's unthinkable that he'll get booed from parts of the crowd. I know several match going fans/season ticket holders who detest him.

He won't get properly booed, though - as in: Old Trafford actually booing him. That will never happen unless he pisses on the statues outside the ground before the match.

Like the respect he showed us when he called himself a slave? feck him.
Those comments had nothing to do with the fans. More he felt like a commodity that is bought and sold by clubs. People getting upset over the littlest of things on this thread.
For me I understand why he wants to go and United should just put him on the market, 10 million fee, he can pay it if he likes to buy out his contract. If no takers, then it's on him to perform.

Why do fans get so offended when certain players are booed ?
Its pretty harmless considering .

Wasnt he the only player subbed at half time?
He’s literally left games early during his time at Madrid too for one reason or another and wasn’t the only player to do so. This is a nothing story.

Definite boo's around me. Like another poster has said him leaving early when quite a few other players also left early is a nothing story. This overanaylsis surrounding his every waking moment is sad.

It's preseason. Ronaldo couldn't give a toss about playing more than 45 minutes against Rayo Vallecano. What might make him upset is not being the main man in PL games, like last season against City in which he flew back to Portugal instead of sitting on the bench.

There is no way Ronaldo will be happy with being a rotational option in competitive matches.

Agreed.

More he felt like a commodity that is bought and sold by clubs.

That's the problem with the statement, though, isn't it?

It's utterly inappropriate and an insult to...history. The only excuse for it is ignorance on a level that can be called offensive in itself, even for a footballer.

But yeah, sure - it wasn't aimed at our fans, you're right about that.

Comes with the territory of having him at the club. It’s a rotten hand ten Hag has been given, we’re basically holding on to the most talked about player who obviously doesn’t want to be here but has no real alternatives.

Because in that moment I want us to win. Even if it's a player who I don't like, what will booing achieve? I don't want to discourage them from playing well. Also, booing Ronaldo will impact someone like Garner who probably wants maximum support for every player.

I think singing a players name is a privilege that should be earned and revoked upon twattish behavior but booing isn't fun. Just sing more United songs instead.

All of this leaving early and body language stuff is just a sign of what's to come if he stays. Ten Hag will be under enough pressure without having to answer questions about every tiny Ronaldo incident in his pre/post match press conferences and interviews. It's not good for the rest of the squad either.

Just let him go wherever he wants

Exactly what i always think too, they don’t seem to work with logic. Even now if he stays he could come out with a statement like „You all saw the rumours and it is true but in the end i stay and ensure I will give 100% next season“

It's the fact none sense like "PR" or "Social media rep" is considered a job with skill. this isn't 1980s anymore. What people consider good PR is so dated.

He was getting both. In fact I would put money on the fact that he created the SIUU celebration because he was getting booed all over the place by rival fans. Now it sounds like everyone loves him even when they dont!

Player who shits on the club and doesn't care for the club got warm welcome from the fans and is still loved by the fans. You can't make that shit up. We deserve to be in situation in which we are.

You can't compare the OT reaction yesterday with the crowd that will be there on Sunday to be fair.

Agreed Sunday ther will be songs and love letters on top of the sius and clapping.

A lot of the fans in OT are suckers for a big name.

They treated Cavani like he was the second coming of Eric even though he had about half a good season for us then pulled an extended sickie for the majority of his time with us. He was also trying to leave the club within about five minutes of being here.

Schweinsteiger did shite all in a United shirt, spent most of his time jetting off with his tennis player girlfriend but was given a standing ovation when getting subbed on one time.

Falcao one of the worst striker signings we’ve ever made but his song would boom around the ground every home game.

Zlatan deserved the warmth he got, but fairly certain he would have received it even if he’d done barely anything.

I guarantee Ronaldo has nothing to worry about reception wise, even though the prick needs turfing into the reserves asap.

The likes of Fred and Fellaini though work their arse off every week and get booed, riddle me that one.

You can bet your house that cnut with get applause in his first game
Perhaps. But like I say, it was a very different crowd yesterday to what will be there next weekend. I don't see why him leaving early yesterday is an issue though in truth, he was only ever going to play 45 minutes, the club gave given him permission to leave and he's left with another member of the first team squad so it's a complete non story. This summer has been nothing compared to the summers of 07 and 08 when it felt like there was a different quote appearing from him every day about why he wanted to leave, "slave" etc, despite us being the best team around so I'm pretty ambivalent towards it this time round. He's left before, he'll leave again, it hurt the club a lot more the first time round than it will this time. I just find it somewhat ironic that the person people want to replace him with refused to travel to a game to force a move out of the club in January, but now we're supposed to forget that because Ronaldo's the bad guy because he wants to leave. If he wants to leave to stay in the Champions League, fine, as long as he finds a club in the Champions League that wants to sign him - I don't exactly get the impression the club will stand in his way if the terms are right.

Anyone pulling out a Siuuu anywhere ever should have their hard drive seized.
Are people really moaning that he might not get booed by the match day fans at the weekend?
Yes. You know the first rule of being a United fan not in the stadium on this forum is to slag off the United fans that are actually in the stadium.

Well I am sure he is always capable of that as he was very much an all round attacker during majority his 20s, both for us and for Real Madrid, as he consistently provided around 15+ assists per season, and used to boss game from everywhere around the final third. It’s just that he changed his game into more of a poacher inside the box during his 30s to focus more on goalscoring, we have not seen much of that from him since.

Who knows if he no longer has the same desire to keep breaking goalscoring records, he may found himself content to involve more in build up play for us under ETH. He is getting slower too as he aged, and struggling on pressing up far, so maybe that’s the right way to go.
Just NO. His passing has always been his weakest point And never has he "bossed a game" atleast consistently. One preseason game doesn't change that.
