Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

Looking at Ronaldo body language when ETH trying get the message doesn’t bode well. Ronaldo is definitely gone, I don't ETH will play him again and Ronaldo will quickly find himself a club. Hope we got a striker identified, I don't trust having Martial as our main striker.
Yes, I noticed that as well. He seemed to just walk off after humouring ETH by listening to his instructions for a few seconds. I’m not a mind reader, but it looked to me like ETH got the hump and that could be why Ronaldo was the first one off the pitch. That being the case, good on ETH!

This thread has become a microcosm of how much of a distraction and disruption it will be to the manager, club and team if he stays.

He is clearly bigger than the manager, and at this rate, with the way the club are acting, them, too.

There is no way he will toe any line, so unless things go well, he'll turn our entire season into the Ronaldo show, and that won't be the Prime documentary type; more the Patrick Bateman.
Absolutely. He has a raging mad fanbase who will create a ruckus everything he throws a hissy fit. Many of them happen to have foot in the door as United fans muddying our own discourse.

At the end of the day though, ETH is his boss. And I think he should assert himself in that regard and make use of the fact that the board have to give him ultimate power at this stage of his United tenure. Apart from the fanboys on social media United fans will fully back ETH if he drops / rotates Ronaldo.

Also let's not forget that on the pitch itself it doesn't help the manager implement his vision having a 37 year who can't put in a real shift.

Keep seeing people saying we should just let him go instead of forcing him to stay but has any club actually bid for him? Obviously the reason he's come back now is because no one else wants him.
And if he's here we'll have to play him because the only other option is Martial

I would prefer Martial over him

I feel so violated and disrespected.

I hope Fergie drives him to the airport to wish him Bon Voyage though, for old times sake.

And you then wonder why he thinks he is bigger than the club? He has to protect his social media status at all costs even to the detriment of the club.

And how different is he from Becks, another social media star. Night & day.
Well I won’t be surprised if in his mind he thinks he is bigger than everyone else, as he has social media followings and many all time records to back it up. Whether this will be detrimental to the club remained to be seen. For example, in the past when he is on peak/good form, it’s win win situation for the club and himself when he is deliverIng. But eventually at some point he will struggle with age/form, by that time will this be detrimental to the club? Possibly, but let’s see.

No offense but considering the huge ego he has it'd be better for him to join MLS club where people will worship him as the soccer god, scorer of clutch goals and creator of 3peats. Will also retire as an USA legend, there will be documentaries of him always preferring the land of American dream to play soccer at because he respects the statue of Liberty ever since he was a kid. Will also play the narrative of Ronaldo final dance blahblahblah. Just like Toby Briann and Michael Jackson.

Remember... his dad named him after Reagan? He is made for the US market. He can get invited to the GOP conventions etc as a reminder of the past and the present.

Ronaldo is 37+ but I do feel like he will learn to play Ten Hag football to some degree.

Ten Hag’s footballing tactic is felt through the squad too much for him not to be involved - so maybe I’m hopeful but he should do better than last year and become a more a player through the central areas especially for his wingers.

Oh sweet summer child.

He was not match fit.
Think he will play in the Europa league games for starters.
At best he will be on the bench Sunday.

The draw for the Europa isn't even until Aug 26th, let alone the games starting.

This thread is as far away from reality as it is possible to get.

Stop reading into shit. What’s abnormal about this interaction?
Oh come on mate, do we really need to get into interpretation of body language of a 37 year old prima dona who acts as above being given instructions? It’s disgraceful and not to be tolerated.

You guys are over-analysing this to hell. I can almost guarantee Ronaldo was only going to play 45mins regardless. Even ETH himself said that he didn’t think he was as up to speed as the others and wasn’t sure how long he could last days before the game.

The hair and nail language analytics are running amuck. One thing I do like is the plain fact that Ronaldo didn’t go to Oslo, didn’t get the day off, had to play with the kids, and didn’t get more than 45 mins. I’m fairly sure if Ronaldo himself could decide, the outcome would have been different, and take it as a sign that Ten Hag is not phazed by neither ego, name or drama.

It's preseason. Ronaldo couldn't give a toss about playing more than 45 minutes against Rayo Vallecano. What might make him upset is not being the main man in PL games, like last season against City in which he flew back to Portugal instead of sitting on the bench.

There is no way Ronaldo will be happy with being a rotational option in competitive matches.

Too much that he referred to himself as the king after all the drama this summer

There's a video of ETH not tolerating a player speaking back at him and here we have this happening on only day one.

As for Ronaldo he has to buy in and agree to be handled like the others. We're essentially pairing a player who demands perks like he's club owner with a manager known for stripping player privilege. Was reported ETH dictates little things like having everyone eat at the same time. Good luck enforcing that when Ronaldo decides he wants to get home early to catch love island.

Leaving the stadium yesterday before the match was over.
Get him out anyway we can.
He dont want to be here and we dont want him.
Unfortunately no one else want him either.

I imagine there's a pretty big reason he wouldn't be keen on MLS.

Same for the other players that left early?

Nothing out of the ordinary there. People love to try to read into things, but it looks like how ETH talks to any player and I don't see anything dramatic about how Ronaldo responded either. He's a very expressive person as we all know, and he wasn't shaking his head in disgust or anything here.

Yeah, but I think you’ll find when you crop it just as he’s wiping his face from another angle it looks like he’s putting his head in his hands despondently, so… check mate

Not going to get involved too much into the drama around him - but just wanted to say some of his through balls and one-touch play yesterday was excellent - something Bruno should take note of, he almost played like a number 10.

Well I am sure he is always capable of that as he was very much an all round attacker during majority his 20s, both for us and for Real Madrid, as he consistently provided around 15+ assists per season, and used to boss game from everywhere around the final third. It’s just that he changed his game into more of a poacher inside the box during his 30s to focus more on goalscoring, we have not seen much of that from him since.

Who knows if he no longer has the same desire to keep breaking goalscoring records, he may found himself content to involve more in build up play for us under ETH. He is getting slower too as he aged, and struggling on pressing up far, so maybe that’s the right way to go.

Yeah, he was decent for the first 20 or so minutes. What he actually did, though, shouldn't be all that hard to replace - it's not like he's been hiding the fact that he's a brilliant playmaker all these years.
