So if he goes who gets the Number 7 Shirt?
How stupid someone must be, who starts burning alle his bridges with his club, because he wand CL football, but has no idea, which club would buy him, or would even take him for free.
That only applies to mere mortals elite players. To the mighty Ronaldo, once he made himself available, elite clubs will queue up to let him interview them to see if they are worthy of himI mean you might want CL football but go and find out if clubs want you, do it quietly. Then assess the situation.
Every player wants CL, but if no one wants you means you are not good enough.
Which season are you suggesting reflects Martials capabilities to outperform Ronaldo? 8 seasons at United there is evidence he cannot. His touch map over his career is similar to Ronaldo's heat map for 2021/21 how is he a better functioning unit? You're also ignoring the shift towards a focal point with City (Haaland) and Liverpool (Nunez) as an evolution of play guess what, both touch maps reflect that. Tackles, blocks and general defensive duties?
Wages: how many shirts were sold with Ronaldo on the back? How many has Martial sold over his career at united? Who is the expensive luxury?
Like I said you wrote drivel, over 8 seasons he has shown he is incapable, whereas Ronaldo performed in the worst team for many years. Im not saying Ronaldo isn't coming to the end of his career, I'm saying the is no evidence that Martial has the capabilities to be the main man. Your comment remains wishful thinking and not objective.
True. The re-signing of Ronaldo being (I hope) the last idiotic decision of the old Woodward regime. My memory is hazy but in 2015 he didn't just want to leave, we had literally agreed a transfer for him that fell through because of faxgate.
We then gave him a new contract shortly after, which he ran down amid a flurry of transfer speculation linking him to PSG, Real etc. When his form was at its worst and he was probably less likely to get the sort of move he was after, we gave him an insane contract to make sure he didn't leave on a bosman at the end of the season.
I think we pretty much agree that the De Gea saga (both in 2015 and 2019) are examples of the club being terribly run, but I think the full history of events makes it even more stark.
We essentially agreed a transfer, let it fall through, rewarded the player with a lucrative new contract that he threatened to run down when he wanted to leave again, and we responded by offering him an even more insane contract which he signed when it finally made sense for him to sign it, because he could no longer command that sort of salary from any other logically run club because of his form.
I'm sorry to labour the point because I think we basically agree, but my central point is that if you take any of Ronaldo, faxgate, Pogba, De Gea's insane contract etc etc in isolation, you can chalk it up to a mistake, or the other side. When it happens so routinely to a club, you have to conclude that we're just incompetently run.
We paid 15m for him and in instalmentsI agree to a point, but we did pay £20 Million for him. So if he wants to leave that much pay the buy out Claus. Simple.

He has only one year left ,that and his age make his resell value practically zero.I agree to a point, but we did pay £20 Million for him. So if he wants to leave that much pay the buy out Claus. Simple.
Martial outperforming Ronaldo isn't the point. It is the player who is now able to best serve the interests of EtH in the way he wants the team to play going forward. A fit Martial, who has shown he can be a functional all around CF when consistently played there, has done it in his one full season as the main CF. He has also shown his abilities throughout this preseason as the main CF. That is pretty clear.
Martial's best goal scoring season came as a CF 3 years ago, last time he was fully fit and played as the dedicated CF. He never scored to the abilities of Ronaldo, but all things considered now, it is better for United to let Ronaldo leave and go with Martial and potentially one other new CF, than having to accommodate Ronaldo.
And Nunez and Haaland haven't even played one league game with their new teams. There is no historical evidence with their current teams on how they will function. Meanwhile, Martial playing CF so far in preseason has been akin to his role when he played as the primary center forward. Have you not seen how he's been operating in the past 4 preseason games?

Arguably the greatest player of all time, who was forged at our club under Sir Alex. Only the 4th United player to win the ballon d'or (first since 1968) and still a key play for us based on last season. Then again our club stopped being about excellence a good few years ago.For some it's certainly wumming but one or two are genuine ronaldists

Not happy with his behaviour but I understand why he wants out and I certainly wont be burning any effigies.
Sorry, it's not about performance?
Martial hasn't ever shown he can be a functional all-around CF suitable for EtH and United. Like i said in my first reply, it's speculation that Martial might one day perform at a level. The evidence of 8 years, including a loan, is that his not good enough. I'm well aware he averages 6 goals, his stats for 19/20 aren't setting the world alight.
It's probably better if Martial leaves and we get a better CF rather than rely on him.
Might as well go back to Portugal.Napoli? How desperate can you become to play CL games

Martial has shown he can perform as a CF. You're being stubborn and ignorant. Whether or not he stays fit is the real question. He has motivation and is relied upon by EtH so far.
You want the only CF who has played under EtH thus far in preseason and who has successfully played at that position in previous season, to be shipped out and just be replaced that easily? By whom. This isn't FM or FIFA. Lets just slunk 100M United shouldn't spend on a last minute CF.
Martial has to be kept around and ideally some reinforcement has to be signed if Ronaldo leaves.
Club legends don't behave this way. If he loved United as much as he pretends to, he would want to stick around and aid us in our mission to get back to the top under a younger, hungry ambitious manager who is proven to play attacking high pressing football. All this talk of Champions League etc and winning, hes 38 soon, there are no guarantess he wins anything anywhere else in the 1 or 2 seasons (max) he has left in his legs. This is a cop out pure and simple. Either a cop out or just pure ego about some menial issue in the dressing room. I don't even care if he ends up at the Etihad at this point. Hes tarnished his legacy.
Keep it about the post rather than being personal.
You're wrong; you haven't provided any evidence that remotely says Martial is good enough. The evidence is he has a level of technical abilities and not enough end product. There are many people who can juggle a ball that are far better sticking to TikTok or the circus. Scoring the odd goal in preseason against weaken opposition doesn't demonstrate he's good enough for the league, it illustrates his level to be able to perform which isn't united's main CF.
Mendes is not empowered to offer a loan to anybody. He can stick that idea where the sun don’t shine.
Yes, I think it’s Chelsea he’s angling for - hence the request to terminate his contract so we couldn’t veto the move.Which makes me think he got strong signals from a potential suitor who then backed out on him when things got real. The signs point strongly to Boehly at Chelsea getting excited at the prospect of signing a superstar only for TT to tell him he had no interest when the story began to break in the media.
What's so bad about Napoli? CL, finished 3rd last season only 7 points behind Milan. Those are the minimum requirements for him. United was in the same boat last year, thus he got on. I understand the Italian rivalry, but at this point in time, Ronaldo has no shame. He's desperate to stay at a CL club willing to take him on.
Well you better go tell all that to ETH, because Ten Hag has been impressed by the pressing, link-up play and general play with Martial so far. Go tell him not to waste time I guess.
Definitely is. That his and Mendes masterplan and they'd definitely pocket huge sign on bonuses. Wouldnt make sense to request a termination if someone doesnt definitely want him.Yes, I think it’s Chelsea he’s angling for - hence the request to terminate his contract so we couldn’t veto the move.
Ronnie: “I heard you sell CL? Champions League?”He's busy. Gone to Nando's for a job interview.

Those 37 year old didn’t score 25 goals in a team that finished where we finished. Context is important in life. The most that was ever paid for a 37 year old in the history of football is 2 million pounds. You're dreaming
Do you think maybe his role under EtH is what the issue is? Probably more likely he's been told he will be on the bench a lot and he isn't happy because let's face it, you can go to Napoli but you're only going to be playing in the group stages of the CL. Napoli have as much chance of winning the CL as United do and we're not even in the thing!Napoli? How desperate can you become to play CL games
Whatever happens I hope Messi overtakes him in CL and wins the World Cup.Would be quite funny if he was to get his wish, but scores 0 UCL goals.
