Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

Either United let him go for free, which is extremely unlikely since we paid Juventus for him, or he's staying.

Can't see any top club paying for a 37 years old. It's unheard of in the history of the game. That's probably the main problem when Mendes is looking for someone to take him.

I hope by the end of Ten Hags gloriously successful 10 years in charge that this club is well and truly done with players that bring the circus to town.

like Atletico cares with how much income they would produce with Ronaldo shirt sales only  .

Never dies, does it?

ETA

If they actually sell considerably more shirts because of Ronaldo (which is very debatable in itself), this will benefit Nike (I think they're with Nike) much more than the club. That's how these deals tend to work: the club agrees to a deal and gets a fixed sum over X years. The amount the club makes per individual shirt is in the 10% region, something like that.

For a big club like A. Madrid to actually make serious money on shirt sales by signing a player, they would have to sell an insane amount of shirts compared to the expected sales - and that obviously will never happen. There's a limit to how many shirts you can sell.

If anything, Ronaldo probably won't be an overly popular choice for Atletico fans wanting a new shirt - but, again, it's a perfectly moot point.

It will likely never happen. We had a moderate circus under SAF and most top clubs have one. No club has zero controversy, zero players/managers that step out of line.

So he would rather go to a club where no one wants him, that will ruin his Madrid legacy, so he can play in a champions league that he won’t win anyway.

must Hate it here

Enjoyed the arriving at Carrington tweets

On a serious note, I cannot see Atleti being able to afford him. I suspect Mendes is there today to actually see if he can get us to make the terms as easy as possible for Atleti. Naturally, it has to be a feck you from us. Otherwise, Ronaldo stays and does his job. I would give them 48 hours to come with a firm offer from a club - otherwise the matter is closed and he will be expected to fulfil the terms of his contract. If he puts up a fuss, then he won't play in World Cup year. His choice.

I'm still pissed he couldn't be discreet about his desire to leave. It is somewhat damaging to the club to have Ronaldo acting like we're so much shit because we're not in the fecking Champions league. That really upsets me. We've never treated him like shit and this is his behaviour.

Plus it's embarrassing for Ronaldo to be begging clubs to take him and there is no interest. A great player like him should not be putting himself in this kind of position.

In any case, we need to get this over and done with somehow. Nobody seems to be able to afford him, so he needs to knuckle down and do the job he's very well paid for.

Wonder if part of the problem is when he spoke to ETH he got the sense the manager would not be catering to him? It's puzzling he doesn't even want to give him a chance and at least get to know him and his methods in pre-season.

Why is the club so insistent he must stay and why is he so hell bent on leaving? Surely he must have an offer on the table considering the dynamics of things. Just doesn’t make sense

The club has the right to double down on that position. It's simply not practical to replace him this summer. I still do not see what has changed since April/May when he knew we wouldnt be playing CL football. To request to leave in July was not reasonable.

We haven't received any offer.
If he's to go somewhere, it would mean us forgoing a fee or God forbid, us subsidising his wages whilst he goes elsewhere. There's nothing we can do. We didn't cause this mess. He needs to get himself together or buy out his contract if he hates being here so much.

It's a tough situation for CR7, I'm not a fan of the person, but I can't help but feel a bit sad for him. He clearly still has something to give in his mind and in reality, he's scored 20+ goals in the PL at 37, but the rest of his game is so lacking and in today's game it's not enough for the top clubs at the pay package he'd cost.

This is one of the all-time great players who's still able to score goals, and everybody is turning him down. He's now alienated some of the fanbase at his own club, he's not finishing his career in the best light for someone of his stature. The only logical thing for me is that he stays, accepts that his time has passed, but that he can still redeem himself by buying in, being part of a squad, and contributing when Ten Hag calls on him, but a zebra doesn't change its stripes and I think he will be a problem if he stays put and it may affect what Ten Hag is trying to build. I just don't see where else he would go at this point.

The transfer window opened at the end of June. He announced he wanted to leave at the start of July.

Absolutely. It wasn't well thought out. Though I suspect he and Mendes thought he'd have lots of offer. They've miscalculated. United didn't tell them to act a fool. They will just have to deal, or Ronaldo buys out his contract.

We need to feck Crisriano off. Give Ronalod his spot in the squad.

He could have privately indicated his intention to move on much sooner. Would have given us time to assess the situation and make reparations. I still think he will get his way for what it's worth.

I assume the A.Madrid move is the one he will make.

This is what I think would redeem him a tad, but it looks like only God could convince him.

Really, a great champion always has set backs, but it's the way you deal with it. I would think at 37 years old, any achievement here at current United, plus in the most competitive league in the world, would add more to his stature. Worth it to miss one season of CL, which let's face it, he would have the slimmest of chances to win with another team not named Real Madrid.

do you know how commercially exceptional he is? That’s the reason. Sells shirts and pushes social media up tenfold. Plus he’s not a bad player either

What striker do they get in his place in the current market ?

I really don't think it's about winning the CL for him, it's about stretching his goal record in the competition as much as he can before he has to retire. It's all ego IMO.

We can't assume that because quite frankly where are they going to get that money? Unless we make it easy for them, and we really shouldn't. Feck it.

18 million is a lot of money, then he needs to club to take him on so he can earn that back...

I doubt Messi will equal or break his CL goal record in one season - not impossible - but improbable imho. He needs to chill out. It's only a part of his legacy. Needs a good talking to imho.

They can afford £350k if they were to sell Griezmann for example. We wouldn't get much of a fee but I'm guessing this is Mendes' idea.

That's his problem though. Those are the options I would present to him.

Griezmann is on loan no? In any case, I can't see them getting a buyer for Griezmann. He's a shadow of his previous self and commands a high salary - not an asset to anyone wanting their team to move forward. I think it very unlikely they will get any takers.

Some positive news. Hopefully he’s not match fit for 9 months.

Sky sports really need to find something else to talk about. Most Utd fans probably don’t give a shit about whether he stays or not. Most I have spoken to are happy to see the back of him.

Yeah he's on loan but might be an obligation to buy. If not, they can just terminate that loan and offer 350k a week to Ronaldo. Wouldnt be that hard to do.
