Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

Sorry to say it but SAF should really stop getting involved in stuff like this.

EtH is the manager and the club has moved on from his days.

ETH has said numerous times that he wants Ronaldo involved. If we're getting SAF involved I'd imagine it's because ETH wants him to stay as he has already indicated. It's not like they've decided to get SAF involved to keep a player ETH wants to leave.

Is there a single thing you don’t fecking moan about? If ETH wants to keep Ronaldo the club should do everything reasonable to make that happen. If that includes using SAF then so fecking be it.
Its all well and good if ETH wants Ronaldo to stay but it shouldn't be at all cost.
Desperation is a very unattractive quality, we'll only get shafted.

It absolutely is an issue!

He needs to keep his nose out of things, it's nothing to do with him at all anymore.

It completely undermines the current manager. If ETH can't convince (not that he should have to) to stay then Fergie shouldn't be involved and let Ronaldo cop himself on or rot on the bench.

Maybe ETH asked him to get involved. We don't half make some assumptions about the internal workings of the club.

It’s most likely the other way round. SAF would probably be trying to convince him to stay while he wants to leave so makes no sense why they’d drag him into this.

saf just turns up at carrington randomly, like david brent in the office christmas specials. eth keeps telling him to phone ahead.

Wish this club would just develop a backbone for once.
He want to go, tell him to bring some offers and feck off.
No bending over backwards for this guy.

If the club bring in SAF to convince Ronaldo then it gives Ronaldo power over ETH. It creates a dynamic where Ronaldo is doing ETH a favour because of SAF's influence only, kind of putting Ronaldo above ETH.
But reports suggest ten Hag is the one thats pushing for Ronaldo to stay. What if ten Hag asked SAF to help in convincing him to stay?

This could mean many things. But Ronaldo knows the media hype and all the journalist is waiting for the players today... WHY is it nessesary to take this talk today. I really thinks is so disrespectful to arrive with his agent, SAF and so on. You have 2 new players (Eriksen and Martinez) arriving - dont make this day a freaking circus, just to make a statement. You could have taking it tomorrow in silence.

So nice of Mendes to accompany Ronaldo after his difficult time xxx

Seriously man wake up!

Read between the lines, if our own manager can't convince a player to stay... then it suggests either a) he isn't that an enticing a manager to play for or b) the player has a bad attitude and won't benefit the team ultimately.

Fergie keeps butting his nose in with every god damned manager after him, its killing the club! His decisions are atrocious and causing damage! He messed up the possible appointment of Pep, then got stuck with Moyes, hung around the place constantly with Jose there and Ole and here we go again with ETH.

Some folks like you just want to be blind to every single bit of evidence that is an issue. Walk blindly along and wonder why we can't get back to being successful!

You don't see Dalglish coming to convince Salah to stay do you?

Even worse so.

It would prove he hasn't the ability to get top quality players to play for him and don't compare his signings to a huge marquee name like Ronaldo (albeit with Ronaldo declining).

I can't imagine ETH calling SAF to get Ronaldo to stay.

This is all between Mendes, Ronaldo and SAF. Knowing how much of a shambles this has been already I wouldn't be surprised if ETH knows any of this was currently taking place.

I can bet my pension SAF being there has nothing to do with Ronaldo.

Other than the fact Dalglish is nowhere near Sir Alex in terms of their standing in the game, there is nothing wrong with that comparison.

Seriously? Just a complete co-inky-dink Ronaldo's first day back and Fergie is there.

I'd suggest you've lost your pension!

Semanatics.

Liverpool club legend / United club legend.

One sticks their nose in on decisions, the other doesn't.

I seriously don't care who was asked or wasn't.

Fergie should not be involved, period.

Found this on Reddit:

"I want to go".

"Where?"

"..."

"Thought so. Now put the fecking cones out".

I don't think SAF would get involved without ten Hag's blessing. He respects the managers position too much. If ten Hag wanted rid of him I think the club would 100% back him. Also, it's said that Ronaldo's camp have been impressed with how Richard Arnold has handled the situation so it wouldn't surprise me if SAF has been advising Arnold on how to handle Mendes.

Reading the Bayern forum on reddit, most don’t want him because of this perceived idea that has generated like wildfire that he’s a cancer to the dressing room and also because of his wages and age. Otherwise, they seem intrigued by the idea. So it really isn’t a question of his quality on the pitch on why he’s getting rejected.

Sir Alex & Ronaldo clearly has a special bond, it's not like he's getting asked to go convince Frenkie to give up his 17m. That'd be a situation more like Dalglish getting invovled with Salah.

I thought the point was to not be afraid to speak up for what you think is right no matter what popular opinion is?

Yes - but that's the point: Ronaldo has divided opinion on here from day one. It has never been a case of almost everyone genuinely thinking that bringing him back was a brilliant idea. It may have seemed that way right after he signed (when the thread in question was made) - but it's never actually been the case.

This place was in some kind of weird, euphoric state in the immediate aftermath of the signing: for some, this was genuine euphoria (he does have a lot of fans on here - I would never argue against that), for others...not so much: for many it was an artificial sort of euphoria, a "feck it, let's party and worry later" state of mind that lasted as long as that sort of thing usually does (i.e. not very long).

In other words, you can question exactly how popular the opinion was - and that alone means that the analogy doesn't work: the kid in the story was the sole voice of reason, pointing out an obvious truth that everyone else refused to see.

Yet our fans think he’s not good enough, a special lot we are.

Now would have been the time to move him on as the club is rebuilding. He had his farewell season and he was delusional to think that squad was getting top 4 last season. Instead he's dominated the summer and it's nice of him to turn up two weeks before the season starts with all this negative bullshit during a good pre season for those that bothered to turn up for it. Sack this guy off.

I hope Ronaldo and Mendes have a offer on the table from another club and they're merely at Carrington to smooth out of the process of his departure.

I also hope SAF is there primarily to welcome Eriksen. Be a nice touch to welcome a guy who's battled his way back into top flight football after the incident at the Euro's.

After all the hassle of re signing him last season, we're now going to go through the hassle of convincing him to stay.

Okayyyy...

It's mind boggling folks saying its perfectly fine for SAF to be involved.

Whatever way it is spun it is a feckin horrendous look for the club / ETH.

*If Ronaldo asked to speak to Fergie - It undermines ETH - Meaning Ronaldo will only stay for SAF and not the current manager, its hugely disrespectful!
*If the board asked Fergie to show up - It again undermines ETH
*If Fergie bullied his way in himself - It again undermines ETH
*If ETH involved him and asked him to talk to Ronaldo - This is the worse scenario of the lot... he's just massively undermined himself.

Do folks not understand the psychology involved in sports at all?

If you're a United player in that squad and you see / hear this today, it makes the manager weak and there's no two ways about it.

I reckon he’s decided to leave and wants to bid farewell to Ferguson as they have a special personal relationship.
