Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

Not really comparable is it? Only a handful of journalists reported the Ronaldo to Atletico news. Even the highly acclaimed Fabrizio never mentioned any thing about it while every man and his dog knows that we want FDJ and even agreed a fee.
Mendes has put Ronaldo in the market by offering him to several clubs, its normal for clubs to explore the option which I think some did before deciding its not viable.
He probably got a maybe Athletico, so let's see later in the window.

It's hard to see the plan being Ronaldo in the first team, given how we've pressed so well in preseason and that Ronaldo didn't even work that hard when he was at Utd the first time round, never mind 15 yrs later.

He would actually be a formidable substitute, bringing a fresh Ronaldo on against tiring defenders in stretched games could really work well. Except we know he'd kick up a fuss over that. So while I absolutely trust ten Hag, I'm struggling to see what that plan could possibly be.
There’s no way that Martial would start ahead of Ronaldo. Martial has only been playing pre season because we have literally no other options. Besides, Ronaldo wouldn’t stay to sit on the bench.

If he turns out to be the best option for the team he should.

Then he can feck off. We reward starts based on performance not name value.

Aaron Ramsey is a Juventus player but they are about to rip up his contact and let him leave on a free to get his huge wages off the books. If Ronaldo doesn't want to contribute and will be throwing hissy fits all year what is the point of keeping him and paying out over £16m in wages. Last year at this time Ronaldo was under contract at Juventus and then he decided he was leaving and two weeks later he was gone. This year Mendes has fecked up by not having a buyer lined up for him but if he doesn't want to be here let him go as quickly as possible and move on.
I mean rip up his (Ramsey's) contract isn't true, there are rumours they are planning to pay him a percentage of what he is owed in order to get him to leave early as no one will take on his entire wage. These reports are also unconfirmed. I suspect Ramsey will only agree to this if he has a club lined up that together with the Juventus pay off would mean he doesn't lose money. similar to what happened with us and Sanchez, we paid him a settlement to leave that combined with the wage inter were offering meant he didn't lose money. So in no way are Juventus ripping up someone's contract as they can't legally do that. They have to come to a financial agreement with Ramsey to get him to leave, which will be very expensive, it just may be a bit cheaper than keeping him on the books, but that is only if Ramsey agrees to that.

As for Ronaldo, the guy is a professional, in one of the last years he will play, if he has to stay I can't imagine he will act anything other than professional if he has to stay. Of course, there is debate about how he fits into a Ten Hag team and whether his presence will be more of a hindrance. I mean i can't picture Ronaldo up front in a team playing Ten Hag style football we saw at Ajax and in preseason. But then again I can't see us scoring the number of goals we need with Martial upfront, so I can see why Ten Hag would want to keep him.

Did you miss Brentford away last season?

We scored more the season Martial led the line than last season.
Martial+Rashford combo>>>Ronaldo+Rashford combo.

I hate, how everything is about him and his situation at United instead of how ETH is going to build his United. I really want Ronaldo to leave the club, but I do not thing that any of the clubs Ronaldo wants to go to want him. He will score goals, but he will also ruin how must modern teams play today. The only loss about Ronaldo leaving United is that his son will leave the club too.

yeah but equally there were times under early Rangnick were you actually saw Ronaldo press a bit which he wound't even do 15 years ago. For me, Ronaldo wont throw away on of the last seasons he ever has and likley his chances of getting a good club next season by having a season long paddy.

Think about it if your Ronaldo you kick your toys out of the pram act like a tw@t, then who is going to come in for you then next season when your 39? The thing Ronaldo cares most about is brand CR7, he isn't going to damage that by chucking away the last few years of his career.

Ronaldo has been prone to public displays of petulance and narcissism throughout his entire career. I think it would be asking too much to expect that to change in a situation where he's at a club he doesn't want to be at and needs to have his gametime managed.

True but Martial (apart from this presason) has been dreadful for a few years. Rashford has seemed to completely forget where the goal was. Do you want to be completely reliant on them bouncing back?

Not to mention the lack of backup, the lack of even vaguely solid strikers on the market and probably the lack of funds to even sign them.

May be a good thing. It’s really taken the pressure off Rashford, Sancho, Martial. All eyes on Ronaldo.

No doubt the situation isn't ideal, but without the toxicity its better. If Ronaldo stays it should be 100 percent on Ten Hag terms and nothing else otherwise he should be shipped out. I'll rather find another make shift forward in his place instead of a moody Ronaldo who would attract a lot of unnecessary attention.
Every other player who doesn't want to be here is gone now so I'll rather he goes too.

If he doesn’t get his move this window then even if he scores 30-40 goals this coming season, no top team will look at signing a 39-40 year old Ronaldo.

He's nearly 38! He doesn't press because he's looking after himself, which is fair enough. It's hard to imagine him suddenly pivoting his entire game cos some egg head from Holland wants him to.

:D

Regarding the other part, it’s true and you are right. But surely you noticed yourself that he was doing a lot more off the ball running towards the end of the season. If his minutes are managed better (shared with Martial?) he will be able to do this even more.

Maybe this is another reason why he wants to leave!

I mean if Ronaldo is going to be toxic, yeah he has to go 100% no arguments. But if he realises he doesn't have any option and is prepared to contribute then keeping him is probably the best option. I mean lets not act like Martial can not deteriorate into a moody git at a moments notice.

Really this has to be Ten Hag and Murtoughs decision. They have to judge how Ronaldo is going to act, the truth is we have no idea, he maybe coming to Carrington today realizing he has no CL club to go to, and not going to earn any more unless he goes to MLS or Saudi Arabia and realise he has no choice but to make the best of it. In which case the point is moot unless Ronaldo has a club lined up, the club and he have to find a way to work together.

Ronaldo was really dumb to pull this without even having a club ready to buy him. When it first happened, I assumed he already had all the personal terms and everything agreed with his new club and it was just a matter of agreeing a fee with Utd. Now it seems like he'll either join Atletico or stay, and ultimately I think he will probably stay. Not sure how I feel about it tbh. I don't think we could replace his goals, but the dressing room seems happier in his absence, and he showed a real lack of respect for the club to not even bother showing up for pre-season.

One thing is certain. He won’t be training unless Mendez is getting an Uber home.

If this is true, and I suspect Mendez being there isn’t true, then it must be for talks about a move away. Why else would you rock up to training, where your manager is, with your agent if you aren’t trying to sort a move out.
Can’t wait for him to go now. Tainted a huge status with the club in my eyes.
Why would it not be true? There's a photo of them both in the same car today in Manchester.

I really don't like this thing of involving Fergie. Aren't we supposed to be trying to do things in a new, different way?

Sorry to say it but SAF should really stop getting involved in stuff like this.

EtH is the manager and the club has moved on from his days.
