I doubt he'd say any different to anyone though. He's not given a shred of bait to journalists about it when there's clearly been an issue. Not to mention that Ronaldo is Kryptonite to a pressing game, unless he's going to follow Rangnick and abandon it, which seems unlikely.

It's hard to see the plan being Ronaldo in the first team, given how we've pressed so well in preseason and that Ronaldo didn't even work that hard when he was at Utd the first time round, never mind 15 yrs later.

He would actually be a formidable substitute, bringing a fresh Ronaldo on against tiring defenders in stretched games could really work well. Except we know he'd kick up a fuss over that. So while I absolutely trust ten Hag, I'm struggling to see what that plan could possibly be.

Maybe ETH thinks he can get Ronaldo to press. Either way Ronaldo has shown his hands and its clear now he has little leverage, if Sancho or Bruno wanted out today they will have more takers so if he stays he'll have to be good.
ETH must show strength and assert himself as the biggest boy in the building, Ronaldo would be his biggest test.
 
I wonder if there will be some sort of compromise. Ronaldo stays until January window, plays in the Prem only and gets to play in the world cup in a nice fit condition. I still don't think ATM wants him.

The way he is treating United and missing pre season, saying we aren't good enough for him, why does he get to play prem games?

Surely, we need to play our strongest team in the PL, the team that has trained together for a month, Ronaldo can play only EL and LC until January or injury.
 
I hope Ten Hag's plan for Ronaldo is to keep Donny company on the bench.

As I’ve said ad nauseam, this is so his last season at Juventus. He started the season there and dipped the feck out as late as possible because he wanted out all summer.

Once (IF) Atletico sort out their FFP shite, he’ll be gone. Doesn’t matter if it’s the 26th of July or the 31st of August.
 
Is Ronaldo that precious about his Champions League goal record that it matters more to him than anything in football? Is that why is he pushing for Atletico Madrid so hard that would tarnish the legacy of him at both United and Real Madrid? If it was about trophies, Atletico I would say don't have a great chance of winning the Champions League anyway. Paddy Power currently giving 40/1 they win the Champions League. Not in the top 5 teams in Europe. Most likely they don't get any further than the quarter-finals.

Would it not be a greater achievement to be fully committed to United and finish 2nd or 3rd from 6th in the hardest league in the world? And go further up the all-time scoring record at United. Maybe win a FA Cup or the Europa League in the process. And then United would be in the Champions League the following season anyway. It's just one season without the Champions League, and he's 37 years old. He really seems to lack self-awareness about his own ability and value.
 
If ETH can take Sebastian Haller, who looked like an absolute pudding at West ham, and turn him into a dangerous free scoring forward I am sure he can get a tune out of Ronaldo. Now Ronaldo has had his ego and his wings somewhat trimmed by asking to leave and nobody wanting to sign him. Perhaps ETH will tell Ronaldo that he plans to start him 10-12 times between now and the world cup to build up his fitness and leave him fresh for the World cup, it also allows ETH a similar number of games to test out Martial in the number 9 role. Once the World cup is over one of them becomes the main striker and the other one leaves either in January or at the latest in the summer.
If Ronaldo does not want to agree to this then let him agree to United tearing up his contract and he will be a free agent to go where he choses. I would rather lose the drama than have a £30m transfer fee. Plus it saves about £16 m in wages over the next year.

Difference between Haller and Ronaldo is Haller willingness to play to ETH demands, Ronaldo doesn't even want to be here.
 
His drive to play for Atletico is so strange. Rivals to his former club aside.

They're not winning anything next year for starters, they're a poor outfit and were outclassed in the UCL... Aside from when our dross rolled into town.

He's staking his legacy at United and Madrid for the chance to score in 6 Champions League games. Mad.

He left just before transfer window closed last season, so might be the case again. I think he will push for transfer and his agent will whore him out to all possible clubs, pull come tricks to make it happen.

I just hope we have enough cover and quality, focus should be on the new era, not on the drama queen who wants attention every min.

Yep that is the difference and there is a misconception because Haller is big that he won't run but it's been shown here in the stats that Haller's pressing far, far exceeds Ronaldo and is good for a forward. Haller was also 27 last season, not 37. He also doesn't think he's bigger than any club, whereas Ronaldo does.

No chance he would publically say he can piss off. Everyone is crucial to a project until they are not. And since we are weak upfront, he needs options and depth

Then if he doesn't want to be here let him agree to his contract being ripped up as I said in my original post. Then he can do what he likes and we can move on from the drama.

Haller was an excellent striker in Germany prior to joining West Ham, it wasn't just ETH who suddenly turned him into a great player. It clearly didn't work out at West Ham.

2) EtH clearly wants to keep him. We have few CF. If he leaves it would only be if we have a replacement.

Ultimately, as I’ve said from day one, United have power in this and the only way he will move is if we have a replacement for him, received an acceptable fee and he didn’t move to a direct rival.

If none of those criteria are met then he’ll be staying here. Simple.
 
I don't really get what the talks are going to be? I mean there have been some unconfirmed rumors that Atletico is interested but not even rumors of an offer at this stage.

So unless you know someone actually bids for Ronaldo whether he wants to stay or go is a moot point?
 
If ETH wants to keep him then fair enough but I'd be happy if he fecked off at this stage, regardless of it leaving us short up top.

But nobody wants him so the CL reject will probably end up staying and causing strops. Hurray.

Aaron Ramsey is a Juventus player but they are about to rip up his contact and let him leave on a free to get his huge wages off the books. If Ronaldo doesn't want to contribute and will be throwing hissy fits all year what is the point of keeping him and paying out over £16m in wages. Last year at this time Ronaldo was under contract at Juventus and then he decided he was leaving and two weeks later he was gone. This year Mendes has fecked up by not having a buyer lined up for him but if he doesn't want to be here let him go as quickly as possible and move on.

1) United would get a fee for him
2) United don’t have a replacement

Why on earth would they give up. £10-15m transfer fee AND go in to the season weakened in a key area of the pitch.

This isn’t football manager.

Ronaldo might be throwing a hissy fit at the moment in order to get his way, but his ego will also work for us once he inevitably has to stay. He's not going to lack professionalism in his training and he's not going to want to put up a lacklustre season because it reflects poorly on him and ultimately his individual accolades are what he has always cared about. It won't be a drama if he stays which is probably why ETH thinks it'll blow over.
 
Ronaldo was adapting his game at the end of last season and chasing more. Playing more for the team. He could learn to press.

Not really comparable is it? Only a handful of journalists reported the Ronaldo to Atletico news. Even the highly acclaimed Fabrizio never mentioned any thing about it while every man and his dog knows that we want FDJ and even agreed a fee.
