One thing that’s impressed me so much since Ronny’s return has been his exceptional level of patience on the pitch. I can’t recall any demonstrative gestures when he hasn’t received the ball or is subject to a poor delivery (possibly had a little go at Mason once iirc but that’s about it).
Totally playing armchair psychologist here, but I really feel like he’s come back to the club fully understanding that we’re still some way from being a top team, and is playing a bit of an elder statesman type role in the team now while still racking up the most goals and proving our most decisive figure.
It’s as if he is appreciative of the fact that this will likely be his last spell at a huge club before retirement from football or to the MLS, and is determined to succeed while also treating his trophy count at United as potential “icing on the cake”.
It must also be a massive help knowing he’s at the one club where he won’t be turned on by the fans as his performances wane in terms of impact over 90 mins. If he was at Madrid or Barca, just to name two examples, he’d probably receive pelters for 2/3 bad games in a row from fans that expect him to be 26 year old Ronaldo again. At United he is loved unconditionally.
5 in 5, and that’s with no pens. In this very, very small sample size his non-penalty goals to games ratio easily trumps that of his Real and Juve careers. I only make that equation to demonstrate just how impressive his restarted United career has been.
