I am absolutely astonished there are people defending Ronaldo assaulting an autistic child and damaging the child’s property.

There’s a lot of circumstances in life that have grey areas, this is not one of them.

The same posters were quick to rightly condemn the horrific actions of Kurt Zouma.

He was genuinely one of my favourite footballers but this has left a sour taste in my mouth. If I randomly attacked a child in the street and damaged their property I’d have Police and Social Work intervention.

Ibrahimovic at Barca is actually a good comparison imo. Ronaldo at City would be a older version of that scenario. Start a few games in the beginning because he is Ronaldo, score some goals, then getting dropped because the team plays better without him and then leaving in the summer.

Barcelona had Messi Who was better central.

Yeah the awful human being that donated millions to hospitals fighting Corona virus, took a pay cut during lockdown, sold his golden boot to fund the children of Gaza, sold his balon D’Or’s to raise millions for children fighting leukaemia, giving his win bonus’ to UNICEF, donated £5m to the people of Nepal after an earthquake, donating millions to the children of Syria, donated to cancer centres in Portugal, donating blood regularly, paying for children’s cancer treatment.

It's a completely other world of hypotheticals to be honest, where possibly Ole doesn't get sacked, Bruno has a star season, there's better team unity, we can't know. The start of the season had begun like the previous season. Flawed but still a reasonably high level. I would say in contention for 4th. You think we'd be worse than 7th? I don't know how it could be any worse than it currently is. Ronaldo has failed to score in 8 of his last 10 league games so what exactly is he rescuing us from? A 2-0 defeat to Everton with his great defensive work?

As for the CL campaign, out in the last 16, like we did. Would have had enough for Atalanta. Atalanta got 1 point out of 2 games with Villarreal and drew with Young Boys. Only got 5 points out of a possible 12 in the games not counting United. Would have beaten Young Boys at home if we needed to and done enough to finish ahead of Atalanta.
I’m amazed you can write all this confidently with your chest. Extremely laughable to suggest we would’ve made it out of the CL group without his contributions. And exactly how would we be fighting for 4th with 0 performing strikers? Our forward options would have been Martial (who probably wouldn’t have been loaned - terrible); Rashford (terrible); Cavani (permanent crock); Elanga (average) with Greenwood inevitably being suspended. I just don’t see how that forward line leads the team even into European places, much less 4th in the absence of Ronaldo - assuming no other forward was signed.

Hypothetical question - how would Ronaldo have done at City this year? In the summer, all the drama was that allegedly it was a "done deal" for him to go there, until SAF personally had words and changed his mind.

If Ronaldo had joined City instead of United, how would his/their season have panned out?

Liverpool would be 5-10 points clear.

So now we are grouping Ronaldo with genocidal maniacs as well, what’s next serial killers?

Can’t what? Can’t say Jimmy Saville is a piece of shit that deserves to burn in hell, I don’t even like mentioning scum like that never mind bringing it up on a football thread. So whatever you’re implying you can stop now..

Sorry man, I'm not implying anything about you or Ronaldo and neither is anyone else. Just to use an example: if you said that all vegetarians are great people and I said "Hitler was a vegetarian" I'm not implying that all vegetarians are genocidal maniacs; I'm just saying that there isn't a connection between vegetarianism and personality one way or another.

Likewise, when you say that Cristiano is a great dude cos of his charity work and we say "Jimmy Savile did a lot of charity work" we're not implying that Ronaldo is a paedo; rather we're just saying that his charity work doesn't necessarily make him a good person because everyone in the public eye donates to charity irrespective of their personality.

Apologies if I didn't make that clearer.

How is it laughable we would get out of a weak CL group? As I said Atalanta only got 1 point from 2 games against Villarreal that had nothing to do with United or Ronaldo. Greenwood was available for the first half of the season, Martial might have been more motivated and would have played, Cavani might have tried when he knew he wasn’t a sub. And Bruno is far better without Ronaldo so he would have made up the goals as he did the previous two seasons. This is our worst goalscoring season for quite a while, so how could it have been any worse?

Maybe you should as you seem to be slightly outdated on that case. He was cleared.

Cleared does not mean completely innocent, the documents are there. Getting away with paying someone off and time between the cases doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Ronaldo admitted it happened. He won’t be in jail but it was still a despicable act.

Seriously, do you not think if he was playing for City he wouldn't be scoring for fun?

If no one gives him the ball and he is playing with below average players, every week, how do you expect him to do better.

Even at his worst, he is still dangerous if given real opportunities

Best case scenario for City would be that he starts maybe 10 games a season and scores as many as he did for United, Pep picks his occasional moments for him where his skills are needed and doesn’t affect the team too much.

Worst case scenario he causes severe divides in their squad, has strops when he’s not picked and Pep changes his system of the past two years, which has won them 90% of games, to fit him in and it’s a disaster.

The reason that Liverpool and City are so good at the moment is that they carry nobody whatsoever. I think an indulgent luxury signing like Ronaldo would have left City adrift of free scoring Liverpool.

Can’t find it in myself to give a shit about the smashed phone. The Jimmy Saville/Mother Theresa detour was fun though.

Anyway. Ronaldo. What a fecking terrible signing. One of the worst of the Ole era. Probably the worst?

Ole spent £440m and left us worse than when he took over. I don't think the guy signed for £15m that's our top scorer even comes close to worst signing

Barcelona had Messi Who was better central.

True and that made the decision easy for Pep. But I don't think Zlatan was a great fit for Barca either way despite decent stats. Pep would have tried to sign someone else to replace him either way imo.

By the same token you can’t claim Ronaldo is an awful person by knocking a phone out of someone’s hand in a moment of frustration, when he’s spent years trying to prove otherwise through charitable work and generosity, because there is bad people in the world.

We can’t say 100% for sure either way as none of us know him personally but I think his efforts for good far outweigh the opinion of someone anonymous on the internet claiming he’s awful.

The worst signing United made was Alexis Sanchez, Ronaldo hasn’t been anywhere near as bad on the pitch but similarly ruinous in terms of how a big world famous transfer arrived supposed to bring us to the next level and what happened then after he arrived.

Well I'd debate that that's Ronaldo's fault but even if you were to assume that, we've signed a £90m lump at centre back who by virtue of being captain is all but undroppable, and a £50m right back who can't attack. We spent £40m on a guy who's on loan to the team we just lost to. I mean that's £180m of worse signings right there

It that what I said?

I gave examples of times were he has shown charity and compassion to others which indicates him not being an awful human being.
And the £300,000 payment to his victim and slapping of a child makes him what?

So now we are grouping Ronaldo with genocidal maniacs as well, what’s next serial killers?

Your comprehension and ability to grasp a basic point is embarrassingly bad, to the extent that I think you're going out of your way to avoid the point - which is that doing good things is not the mark of a good person - not doing bad things is.

It’s even more laughable with how you’ve just hypothesised it. Martial? The guy that can’t even get motivated playing on loan at a club that did everything to make him feel warm and welcome. That guy? Also, Ronaldo’s absence isn’t gonna make Cavani suddenly match-fit for the season and I’m sure as hell not gonna bank everything on a relatively unproven Greenwood for that half a season. Ronaldo’s goals were CRUCIAL, there’s no two ways about it. The points he helped secured would have affected the dynamics of the other group games too. We don’t win our home game against Atalanta or draw with his last minute goal in the reverse fixture and the group looks very, very different. And this is not even counting the last minute home win he secured against Villarreal. It’s ridiculous to say “yeah, we’d have Martial playing so we would have won those games.”

We didn’t make it out of the CLs groups the season prior with no Ronaldo so how could you confidently hypothesise that we would’ve done it this season without him?

He was never really cleared. The case was dropped because of a technicality. Take of that what you will.
It wasn’t proven that he admitted anything. Those documents presented by spiegel were both unverified and unauthenticated meaning anyone could’ve created them and said: “yeah that’s what Ronaldo said.” The case was also dismissed because there was no “hard evidence.”

We finished 2nd and 3rd with Maguire and Wan Bissaka starting every game before Ronaldo arrived. Not saying they’re great signings but they have played well in a somewhat functional United team. Van de Beek I’ll give you, bizarre how he was bought and then never played. But Sanchez was a complete and utter disaster. £350k a week for 3 league goals and some of the worst forward performances I’ve seen for the club. Disrupted the momentum of a United team that was going quite well.

I mean if you can judge a signing in a vacuum, then sure I guess that works, but saying we finished 2nd and 3rd before Ronaldo means it's Ronaldo that's made us worse isn't totally accurate. I mean in those seasons rashford hadn't forgotten how to play football but still get loads of minutes, cavani didn't spend the whole season on the treatment table.

For me it really exposed the tactical limitations of our manager, Ronaldo for me is a better player than Suarez, yet Suarez was able to lead atletico to the title last year because they have a tactically gifted manager who can set up a team to play to the strengths of a player like that

What does anyone think of Victor Osimhen for next season, been watching videos of him and he’s a real beast defends from the front and eye for goal, I think he would be transformative for us.

If we’re going to go might as well go big?

If that was the case Ronaldo would have sued the feck out of them and forced them to withdraw the allegations. That he did nothing speaks volumes.

So is yours.

He has been a disaster

Can’t wait until he fecks off, hopefully in the summer

Ronaldo is a fuel maker for his haters. He was frustrated and all, kinda wrong doing that. However, it's really fun to come here and read all this

I've really seen people feel sorry for him coming to Utd, he's getting paid obscene wages and is just as bad as everyone else and people want to throw a pity party for him.

So many seem struggle to grasp that he isn't the player he once was and act like the rest of the team is holding him back

Probably League + CL double and 20+ prem goals.

They would’ve gotten plenty more out of him especially in big games as he’d have been afforded plenty of rest to remain sharp due to their squad depth.

And having players like KDB, Foden, Cancelo, etc in the squad who can pick insane passes out of thin air in such a drilled set-up would be a wet dream for a player like Ronaldo.

I can't see him staying under any circumstances next season so most people will be happy at that least. A bad signing overall but i do resent the idea by some that he almost single-handed wrecked a team that were performing absolutely crap towards the end of last season and have been just as awful whenever he hasn't played. He's a problem-one of MANY.

Where would he go and get paid the wages he does now? He will stay and get his last huge wage bill I think. No other top team will have him.
