Cricket

What you are mentioning are a few exceptions. I am sure if we look through history books, we could find instances where our slow plodders have affected collapses against batsmen who played pace very well. We did occasionally find it tough against Saqlain, Mushy and Murali, but then they were also top bowlers and would get better of batters, however good they may be.

I have not said otherwise. My point is even now we're not exactly being run through by spinners every time we play.

They are... I wish they'd gone a bit further in terms of fielders allowed outside the circle though. I know the days of the 'middle overs' weren't exactly fascinating but these days it's so much easier to hit a four than four singles that accumulation is just disappearing in favour of hitting.

In other news - Sangakkara's retiring from tests (having already packed the other international stuff in). Brilliant player and top guy by all accounts.

An all-time great. It will be interesting to see how Sri Lanka do over the next few years.

Sangakkara is a legend. Great player and came across as a gentleman too. Will be a loss to cricket.

Half decent effort but the first innings cost the match. 150 lead is not enough for Yasir Shah. 220 would have been about par.

They have, no? Five bowlers allowed outside the circle now.

Surprised that he didn't hang around a couple more years to give Sachin's run record a shot; still has a lot of cricket left in him.

One of the greats of the modern game.

He must be fed up playing the same couple of teams over and over again. 5 series' against Pakistan the last 4 years. It's getting too predictable and boring.

Without Wahab, it will be difficult for Pakistan to get Sri Lanka within 150 runs. The first innings collapse will probably end up costing this match.

Play called off for today. If only Azhar Ali had kept his wicket safe for another 2-3 overs then the tea would've been taken at it's normal time and Pakistan would've come back tomorrow 7 down.

Looks like it will be a rainy final day but SL only need about 25 overs to chase this down.

Isn't that just the last ten overs?

I am confused now. I thought teams are now allowed to have 5 outside the box after the initial power play overs, isn't it?

Probably.

What happened to the Future test program? Was it scrapped?

Don't think so. That is what I'd like to see, mind.
In a move to give bowlers a bit of breathing room in 50-overs cricket, the ICC board has decided to do away with catching fielders in the first ten overs, get rid of the batting Powerplay, and allow five fielders outside the 30-yard circle in the last ten overs of an ODI innings.

You are right. I, too, wish that they allowed captains to have 5 outside after the intial powerplay overs. Would have helped teams like ours who like to use spinners during those overs. Let the captains decide if they want to be attacking and take wickets or be defensive and restrict the run flow.

Sangakkara is probably my favourite batsman to watch in the whole of cricket, beautiful strokeplayer. For me he's like cricket's Ryan Giggs (with less shagging I'm guessing).

McCullum is a beast. Great having him play for Warwickshire/Birmingham Bears :D

Decent 3rd wicket partnership. Still anyones game. A couple of early wickets and the new ball tomorrow and SL will be on top again.

What a chase by Pakistan!

Have a solid test team, and YK what a man. 19 away from being Pakistan's highest test scorer and would be great if he could get to 10,000 test runs.

How is Shoaib Malik still playing international cricket? Such an average player.

There is something in this pitch for the spinners. I think 280 is a very good score.

What is the least result Pakistan should get in this series to qualify for Champions trophy?

3-2 loss will see them tie with WI on 88 (don't know what happens then). 3-2 win will seal it, though there was some talk about Pak and WI playing a triangular series in Zimbabwe before the cut off date.

The Bangladeshi's have the South Africans in all sorts of bother in the second ODI. Damn!

Bangladesh beat South Africa 2-1 in an ODI series today. They won todays decider convincingly by 9 wickets!

They had already convincingly beaten Pakistan and India in ODI series in the past 3 months and also that shocking defeat that sent England crashing out of the ODI world cup at the beginning of the year.

Any opinions?

They're developing very nicely, they need to play more away tests though!

Bangladesh are quietly becoming a more than decent team, at least in ODIs. Would like to see them play more games away from the sub-continent, maybe as a 3rd team in a ODI series.

Are Pakistan out of the Champions Trophy? Haven't really followed them much recently.
